Overdue review. I came in 8 months ago. Greeted with the best energy. Decided on my font then met with Bunny. My tattoo was simple but meaningful to me and he delivered. I live 20 mins from DTLA and Hollywood, but getting tattooed here feels different so I'll be back in January for my next tattoo.

My fiancée and I traveled to New Orleans with friends and family to get married in what was meant to be a magical city. We were there over Halloween, and before we left, I thought about getting a tattoo to honor my dog, Estrella, who passed away on October 31, 2020. Due to wedding expenses, I promised to keep it simple and under $200, if I got it at all. After some research, I chose a minimalist design with two paw prints and a seven-pointed star--a meaningful, small tribute. Still, I was hesitant. With all the wedding events, I wasn't sure if I could justify the time or money. But once in New Orleans, the city's spirit inspired me. On Halloween, while exploring the French Quarter, I mentioned to my fiancée that I'd check out Hell or High Water Tattoo to see if timing and price could work. On my way to the shop, I saw a restaurant sign on Decatur Street with "Estrella" written in yellow, blue, and red, the colors of the Ecuadorian flag--my father's heritage. It felt like a sign that the tattoo was meant to be. Inspired, I walked into Hell or High Water and met Roman at the front desk. I shared my story, showed him the reference with paw prints and a star, and a photo of the sign with Estrella's name in script and Ecuadorian colors. Roman seemed moved and went to check with an artist, Sean. He returned, saying they couldn't do it that day but offered to book me with Sean for the next day 11/1/2024 at 5 PM, quoting $180 for the work and said it would take about an hour. It seemed reasonable, so I left a $100 deposit and my number in case they could fit me in later that day. Later, Roman called, saying they could take me at 5 PM that same evening on 10/31/2024. Excited, I rushed over, mentioning my 6:30 PM reservation with my fiancée. When I arrived, Sean was still tattooing another couple, and I waited 45 minutes before he came over. He then explained he was hungry and preferred to do it the next day. He said he didn't want to "rush a memorial tattoo" since it was "special" and promised he'd "draw something up" for the next day. Although it was disappointing, I appreciated the sentiment and agreed. The next day, I returned, eager to see Sean's design. To my surprise, he'd simply copied and pasted the reference images I'd provided, adding no original touch. But given the circumstances, I agreed, thinking a simple tattoo would suffice and it was only $180. The process was incredibly impersonal. Sean's workspace was cluttered, and he seemed indifferent about the experience. I focused on honoring Estrella's memory and tried to get through it. Afterward, Sean told me to meet him at the front desk to settle up. Expecting a slight increase, I was shocked when he quoted $450. I reminded him that the quote was $180, but he claimed the extra was for "drawing it up and adding color," even though there was no creative input. Feeling cornered and rushed for time, I reluctantly paid. As I left, he (with a grin) had the audacity to say, "I'll tattoo you anytime." Let me say "No, Sean. No, you won't." This incident was a clear exploitation of my emotional investment. The tattoo itself is basic and was meant to honor a cherished pet, but instead, it became a reminder of this upsetting experience. The disappointment didn't just sour the tattoo--it soured the magic of the city for me. What was supposed to be deeply meaningful turned into one of regret and bitterness that lingered over the rest of my trip. To make matters worse, a friend in our wedding party got a larger, detailed, original tattoo from another artist at Hell or High Water for a fraction of what I paid. When that artist heard my story and saw the tattoo, he was shocked and clearly embarrassed on behalf of the shop. This review is a warning to anyone considering Hell or High Water Tattoo. Avoid Sean (@seanlindseygoodbabybunny) if you value integrity, empathy, and respect. Hell or High Water, I urge you to make this right, as those funds were meant for wedding expenses, not an overpriced, unoriginal work.

Called them on a random saturday early afternoon asking for 3 walk ins and they told us to come on over - it is first come first serve. After a quick 12 minute walk we came on over and they where able to start on us immediately! Sean helped me and one of my friend, & Sam helped the other. Sean was quick to get the sketches drawn up printed and helped us decide which area would be the best for us long term. I got a 4-5 x 3/4 inch singatute and it took him maybe 30 minutes from beginning to end and looks flawless! Area was clean and artwork is sick! Sam got my friends drawn up and done around the same time and again a flawless tattoo! Hope to see yall when you visit austin and will definietly return when we visit again. Thanks yall!

My friend & I were in New Orleans for the weekend and wanted to get tattoos! We went on Yelp to see which place was closest to our hotel and had amazing tattoo artists! Well, we hit the jackpot! We made an appointment and came back in for our new ink. We were introduced to Bugg. Wow, what an amazing guy! Bugg is so warm and friendly and very professional. He was patient and non judgmental. He is Soooo talented and really took his time to give us his absolute best art work!!!! All of the staff are really nice and have a great vibe between them. That is such a great feeling and makes the experience level up! We love our tattoos and we give Bugg 10 stars!!!!!!!!!!

Was in NOLA for a girls trip and on our last day we had time to kill so we decided to get tattoos & stumbled upon this little gem. The tattoo artist had a customer waiting that he said was going to take 3 hours but my friend & I wanted 2 small tattoos that would take less than 30 minutes the artist went out of his way & squeezed us in & the price he charged us was significantly less than another near by tattoo shop. Had a blast here! I read great reviews ahead of my trip to the area and reached out to schedule a session for two of my friends and myself to get matching tattoos. It was friend's birthday and this was the ultimate surprise. Worked with Chopper Pete who was amazing. He was all set up when we got there and tattooed the three of us. It was so much fun and I'm obsessed with our little voodoo dolls! Everyone was so nice and the other artists were funny and welcoming. Would 100% come here again when in town.

My husband and I came in and requested voodoo doll tattoos and they were very considerate to our request. They drew up our requests made them to size and went to work! We are so happy with our tattoos and if or when we are in NOLA again, we will visit! Thanks for the torture lol

While on vacation in NOLA I decided to check out Hell or High Water as my wife and I were walking by. It was closed (it was early. 9:30 AM). But Jordan opened the door for us and welcomed us in. I talked to him about a tattoo I've been wanting to get for years. I showed him a photo of the drawing. Jordan was willing to take me immediately. He showed us his portfolio and I knew my job would be easy for him. It took about 90 minutes of nonstop work. Meanwhile we were talking and laughing with the other artists. Hell or High Water is as casual as you can get. It's not for the faint hearted. I could easily chill with all of them. Jordan did a perfect job with my tattoo. He made some artistic recommendations which made his final work better than the original picture. It's been 7 years since my last tattoo. I have 4 now. This was the most fun. I'd come back to NOLA just to get another tattoo with Jordan. Highly recommended.

So I went to this place with my friend to get a tattoo while on a trip. They were very friendly. Service was quick. The tattoo artist we had was very creative and made our concept come to life. He was super friendly and made getting a tattoo enjoyable. Base price for a tattoo is 100 dollars.. Walked in to Hell or High Water with an image and very quickly I was hashing out details with the artist Chopper. He was awesome. In fact the whole shop had a great vibe. I am collecting bird tats from different artists, all located in different cities around the country. Traveling for my job gives me the opportunity, not just to get a tattoo, but to meet people walking a different path. I'm realizing each tattoo has a story now imbedded in my skin. I came to New Orleans with my sister and we were admiring work that a waitress had at a bar and she mentioned that she got it done at Hell or High Water. We decided to do a walk in and see if they might be able to accommodate us. We were warmly greeted and immediately given paperwork to sign and artists to chat with. My artist was Sean and he was very friendly, high energy and very open to my idea. He was openly enthusiastic about the tattoo, and did a very quick, adorable mock up. I have several tattoos and I found him to be a very careful, speedy and gentle artist! Conversation was easy, and I absolutely love my tattoo. Such a wonderful experience and wonderful memory! Change your hours on yelp. I went there based on a recommendation from a friend and when I got there, you were not open. I saw your sign about nonchalant hours on your door. But that really doesn't make sense if someone is traveling there because they think you're open based on your posted hours. read more

I stopped in other day to toss some ideas around for a tattoo. I was treated with the highest respect which says a lot since I didn't book a session or get a tattoo that day. I'm planning on going back for the tattoo I want some time next month for a birthday gift to myself. The shop has a terrific vibe. I'll defo be returning for that tattoo. A great tattoo shop starts with their front door staff and Roman is the best. Such a beautiful soul and very friendly. My tattoo artist Andy is a beast his lines and shading are superior. This shop is clean professional and inviting. The price of tattoos I feel are worth the quality you receive. Recommend making an appointment because they have people coming in droves. I was also fortunate to meet the owner Meca who is a Jersey girl like myself. If you get a tattoo from then you will not be disappointed and if your visitors you will wish you lived close by to be able to go back over and over again. read more

Wife and I stopped in during our vacation to NOLA. I researched several shops in the area before going in and checking it out. Went in on Friday talked with Pete and got setup for each of us to get a tattoo the next day. Saturday we showed up about 20 minutes before they opened and went in and talked with each artist (Pete and Andy) and gave a run down of what we were wanting and began the design process. Once finalized we got to work. My wife was with Andy and she enjoyed the conversation and the light hand. Pete worked on myself and again super nice and friendly guy. Both of them made it feel as if we were at our local shop. Definitely recommend this shop and those two if you're looking for a tattoo to remember a trip. read more

Beautiful shop and Andy took my walk-in graciously and knocked it out of the park. I picked some flash from one of the binders that you can flip through at the front. I got there as soon as they opened. I would absolutely go back. I have a feeling every artist at this shop is on point. read more

Mecca was absolutely amazing, they saw me right away for a walk-in and gave me the perfect tattoo. Last weekend we visited NOLA for our Bach trip and quite a few of us decided we wanted tattoos! The artist, Wes, was SO accommodating and had the best vibe. Can't even begin to describe how great of a shop this is. After getting mistreated at Big Easy (not to mention how sketchy that shop feels in general), I headed over here. From the minute I walked in the door I felt like this was a place I wanted to get tattooed, and working with Andy only further solidified that. He was phenomenal to work with and talk to. This place was one of the highlights from my trip to New Orleans. My 25th birthday and i wanted it to be the best celebration ever. The owner Tony is awesome, he did work on me years back. He keeps his place clean and the people who work there are friendly. He's shop was on NCIS New Orleans and American Horror story. They were flexible with my 20 year old who decided she was getting a tattoo on her trip to new orleans. The artist was amazing, patient and yet extremely knowledgeable - he gave her tips about what kinds of questions to ask her next tattoo artist, and how to sort out good from bad. I am a heavily tattooed person - I have a full back piece and my hands and stomach tattooed - and the tattooed he put on my inner arm hurt more than any other tattoo I've gotten. It was almost as if he was enjoying causing me pain. When I winced he made mocking comments about my other tattoos being "fine line" no knowing that I have traditional tattoos other places on my body. And the tattoo itself is the worst applied one I've ever gotten. It's completely blow out and looks like I've had it for 100 years. I cannot recommend anyone get tattooed here.

The tattoo has a lot of line work and a lot of darkness, so it would have been easy to have slopey lines or to blow out some of the dark areas, but her lines were so so straight and she didn't blow out any of my tattoo. I am really happy with how the tattoo came out; it was fairly quick and pretty painless. Jacqui also had a conversation with me while she was tattooing which made me even more comfortable. The price was really fair for the quality of what she provided. I have since recommended her and her new shop to many of my friends, some of whom have received tattoos from her shop and absolutely loved them. She said the design I wanted would be extremely small in that area. We discussed it and I ended up getting the design on my left outer ankle. And I love it. The shop is clean. I mean really clean. For example, to get the picture in my ankle right, she had me get off the table and stand up in a certain way to get the right angle and look. She had a ton of awesome sketches around. When I emailed her inquiring about a tattoo, she got back to me within 24 hours. There is a $40 deposit to schedule an appointment, just to make sure you will be there. This of course is credited to the cost of your tattoo. Also, Stacey will tattoo cancer survivors nipples back on FOR FREE if they lost them due to the surgery. NEXT DAY: my tattoo looks wonderful! I was new to NOLA and found this place literally right down the street from me. I wanted to get a traditional rose, with a banner for my mom and upon walking in i knew i loved this place. The place is incredible, great artists, good music, and awesome shit to look at on the walls while sitting for copious amounts of time in the chair . i was set up with Eric and he did the traditional piece. its been around 3-4 months and now have started my left sleeve with him, and pieces here and there. What a great shop! I was down this past weekend for my bachelorette party, and popped in on a wing and prayer. A friend and I were hoping to get some new ink. I wanted a couple of small things, and she wanted a small one. Nothing fancy, or too detailed. Skitch was with us pretty quickly, and we couldn't be happier! He was professional but also fun and easy to talk to, the tattoo itself was the least painful I've ever had and (tw: blood) I'm used to bleeding during my tattoos but there was none at all this time.
