For many years, I had nothing but grade "A" experiences with Parkview Dental in Vancouver. Dr…read more Ayoughi is very skilled at what he does and is extremely welcoming and the front staff has been fantastic! Unfortunately over my last few visits, I found myself in the hands of other dentists at the clinic and to be honest it felt like I was experiencing student work. Everything from not being given the "lead bib / Apron" during multiple ex-rays (They started with it, then had to redo the ex-rays a few times and No Bib) to dealing with a student assistant that was very nervous and not knowing the instruments (the original assistant called in sick at the last minute) to being put almost upside down while getting a root canal (Very uncomfortable Position!), to having temp filing pop-out. The last 3 visits were 1) A root canal and crown, (not done by Dr.Ayoughi) I had to return 3 times due to temp falling out and pain. The first time they re-cemented the temp that had poped-out, the 2nd time they tried adjusting the crown with no success 2 weeks after installing it. 3) The third time I was still in pain, I demanded to bee seen by Dr. Ayoughi and he was very nice in explaining what might be going on and did more adjustments and told me his assistant would check-in with me in 1 week or 2 to see how I felt as he was leaving on Vacation and she did, she left a message as I was unable to answer the call at the time. I returned the call that evening and left a message saying that I was still in pain, at that point it became "Radio silence" never heard back! I had to go to another Dental clinic to get checked and that's where they told me that the root canal was excellent but the crown was to close to the bone and that was the pain / discomfort I was feeling. 2 options were given to me 1) an expensive surgery to repair the problem or 2) let time do the work and allow bone matter to grow. Parkview Dental was one of the very best service I'd ever receive in a dental clinic, until I was switched around without being asked and passed around to other dentists in the clinic, then the quality of work went downhill. I unfortunately had to move on to an other clinic. The front staff has always been good and accommodating. PS: That was not my first root canal, I've had a few, so I'm well aware of how it should go and feel.

The most regrettable, dissatisfying, disappointing, and…read moreunforgiving experience of my life, one I wish had never happened, was my orthodontic treatment under Derek Hou, the owner and an orthodontist of Orthologie Orthodontics. I wish I could go back and never have chosen him for orthodontic treatment, solely based on the Google reviews of his office, which I thought I could trust. I wish I had never undergone treatment with him, because not only were my minor issues left unresolved, issues that could have been fixed in just a few months, but additional complications occurred as a result of the treatment he designed for me, some of which will last a lifetime. I decided to terminate my patient relationship with him after experiencing such awful results, but by then it was too late. I would never, ever recommend this orthodontist to anyone!

I had previously been bouncing around dentists after mine retired, and ended up having an unpleasant experience at a corporate dental clinic so I really wanted to find someone non-corporate. To start with, the receptionists were friendly and helpful when I was booking my appointment, and provided reminders as the appointment approached. When I arrived, I was happy to see that they have great COVID protocols in place. They seem to be well organized, and I didn't have to wait for my appointment. Dr. Okamura was wonderful. He's friendly, personable, knowledgeable and very kind. It is obvious that his patients' well being is his utmost concern. He is patient, and takes the time to explain things carefully. He also didn't try to up sell me on all of the things the corporate dental clinic was trying to tell me I needed. His approach is more conservative and careful, which I really appreciated. He shared his plan with me, and was upfront and honest about the issues I have with my teeth. He did a very thorough initial exam, even measuring my jaw and noting issues with how it opens and closes through various tests (I've never had a dentist do this before). I have had a problem with one of my teeth for almost a year now, which several dentists have tried to fix, but Dr. Okamura referred me to a specialist to take a look before we do anything, and I really appreciated that as well. All-in-all it was a great first appointment, and I feel reassured that I have found the right dentist for me!

Our whole family had been…read moreseeing Dr. Racich for years and we really liked his calm, capable, and well-informed work (he is even an author of dentistry books!). When Dr. Racich left (suddenly/unexpectedly) I started seeing "Dr.B"--Dr. Bussières. Dr. B is competent and well-educated. Unfortunately I have A LOT of problems with my teeth and I was very used to Dr. Racich's cautious attitude. I have some of the thinnest enamel possible and I'd had previous dental work done where the dentist didn't even ask permission to diamond disc between two teeth. As such, I'm *very* nervous at the dentist. I found that Dr. Bussières has more of a straight-forward attitude (compared to Dr. Racich's caution) and decided to fill 2 small cavities that were side-by-side at the same time. (Previously, Dr. Racich would do 1, wait to make sure things were okay, and then done the next, when they were touching between teeth.) As a result, I had excruciating pain on that side, and couldn't chew anything, a mere week before I left on a month-long vacation. (edited to add: Dr. Bussières did come in on a day off to try and fix the problem before I left town, but it was not a one-visit kind of fix and I was apprehensive to have more work done). I have since switched dentists but I believe my dad (who has less dental issues) and my mom (who has lots of dental issues) still see Dr. Bussières. So this is just my personal experience.

The root canal was far less intimidating once Dr. B explained everything and he and his staff were very attentive. And no pain during, or after my filling! Numbing gel + a small shot = I don't feel a thing, and they let me listen to my iPod during the procedure, so my anxiety is minimal. I have never had a dentist mention anything like this to me in all my 30+ years, I asked my normal dentist about it afterwards and he said there are many things that cause it - soft drinks, wine, I am also a tooth grinder who now wears a nightguard, but I have worn down spots on my back molars from grinding as a child. Anyways, my issue isn't that Dr. Cheevers brought this up, I feel that is fair as a healthcare professional, it's that he wouldn't drop it after as I tried to defend myself. Looking at me sympathetically and saying it was "my problem" and how I chose to deal with it was my choice, but that's what had caused it, so end of story type thing. I was pretty insulted and left with a bad taste in my mouth...sorry bad pun, but I felt it was pretty rude.
