I had never been to a neighborhood market that asks for tips, until I came to The Heights Market. On my second time here, I decided to use cash, since the POS system asks for a tip. The cashier asked if I wanted my change. What the heck?!!! Who buys something from a store and doesn't want their change back. When I'm buying something from the local market/liquor store, they're already jacking their prices up. We love Heights Market and Sahara and are so glad they are a part of our Normal Heights neighborhood ! They are a great local and family owned business, and love being able to grab lunch or dinner and groceries at the same time. The beer selection gets worse and worse. Every time I happen to find something I like, next time I go back, they don't have it. You can get a 12 pack for $20 down the street at Vons for the same beer they sell a 6 pack for $17. Almost all the 16 oz are broken up and sold individually for $7-9 each. $30+ for a 4 pack is insane lol. Bine and Vine across the street is cheaper and has a better craft selection. read more

This review is for Sahara inside norma heights market I mean the liquor store is cool too and be having some stuff that you might not see at every other liquor store so good on them. Sahara is Mediterranean food I knew what I wanted from jump so I gotta the Sahara fries with 2 proteins chicken shawarma and gyro let me tell you this I got an incredible hulk portion that one meal became two and I'm a big boy so that's saying something. My wife got a bowl with beef shawarma and then we got 4 egg rolls or bureqs one was all beef fire the other was chicken and veg bad it was bomb too. Portion are amazing price point is right where It should be to be competitive all in all great experience. Plus being in a liquor store if your taking it to go you can grab a 6 pack of beer maybe some wine or any other cocktail. read more

I was shopping for whiskey, and the man working there was getting a bottle from a higher top shelf while I was pointing at it and talking to him. apparently the women cooking in the kitchen were upset God he was helping me and threw a pallet right next to me. I don't know why I bought the $80+ bottle. I should've just walked out. They were talking in their language. This place is so underrated it's insane. I live a few blocks away & they have not only the best dolmas I've had in SD but the best fries, hot & cold salads (chipotle hummus pasta salad)? Yes pls. One time got a craving for egg salad & had one of the best egg salad sandwiches ever true Japanese style here. It's actually more eclectic than strict middle eastern shut Sahara has all the classics & the twists. Get the fries to order you won't be disappointed. Best foreign candy selection, rare beverage selection, all while being affordable, kind & well...at times intimidatingly handsome. It is truly a market in every sense. I'm new to this Sand Diego neighborhood and love walking Adams Street so when I spotted this market and looked at the menu I was definitely excited. I love falafel so that's what caught my eye first. I had the falafel and my husband had a Greek gyro. Both were delicious and I can't wait to try the other items on the menu. Definitely recommending this market/restaurant to my family and friends. The quality and reasonable prices of the menu is great as well as the friendly service, and clean/organized ambiance. Love this unique, community food center! read more

I'm writing this reviews because it has happened twice when I have ordered alcohol from an app. So beware if you do order from them. They list they have alcohol in stock and the order is accepted. Once you go to pick it up. They cancel it while in the store and say they don't have it. One of the items was Stagg Jr. I spotted it on their shelves, so I asked about it. The cashier stated it was a different proof and the price was 4 times the MSRP for the bottle. It's super frustrating, and my $$ or review may not make a difference, but I give up shopping there. It's really unfortunate and I feel like it's just poor business practice. read more

I want a clean good looking market, as if it were an extension of my kitchen. And their prices don't go up and down week to week so you never know what you're going to be charged. Lou is a good man. This is why I go out of my way several exits, just to come here, even when there are plenty of corner markets everywhere. When I look into liquor stores I usually have one thing in mind; beer selection. If you like beer, this place will definitely not disappoint. They carry New Belgium, Stone, Karl Strauss (special stuff not the usual) and quite a few others. If you want cheap beer, they have that too, although with all the great micro brews available in San Diego, I don't recommend it. The staff was very friendly and easy to deal with. They were happy to help with snack acquisitions, or any other questions I had. I think my favorite part of this place, well aside from the beer, is the fact that Manny's Taco Cart is inside. Great beer, good food, good snacks, friendly people. What else could I need in a corner liquor store. Give it a shot if you want. read more

If I could invent a time machine, I'd go back and never step foot in this disgusting store. To be short and sweet - it's dirty, smells like spoiled seafood, the owner is an asshole, and they treat paying customers like potential thieves. I've never been so uncomfortable in a store... the owner just stares at you the whole time and you can't even pick up your own cold wine/champagne bottles - they have to come over and get it for you (?) idk the reasoning but it feels very unnecessary. I like to be treated like the adult paying customer that I am instead of being micromanaged and suspiciously watched while shopping. I'm all for shopping local and supporting small businesses but there are PLENTY of other convenient places to get the exact same things, and possibly less potential food poisoning from their gross "seafood bar". read more

I came here after getting a mailer about the specials they were running. I won't type everything here, but I walked out with 5 pounds of different types of meat, bread, eggs, fruit, potatoes and some snacks for the wife all for about $30. Fantastic deal. The dude running the register was extremely helpful, he even gave me chicken breast when he was supposed to give me ground beef since they had run out. I'll be watching the mail for their next round of specials because I flat out can't beat the deal I just got. If you are going to complain about the dust and general lack of cleanliness, you should probably go back outside and read the part of the sign that says "liquor." Seriously.
