Most places I called wouldn't install strap buttons on my ukuleles. I talked to about 10 different places, inner loop and the Sugar Land/Mo City area. We had an old guitar that's been unplayable for 9 years since my brother in law passed away. He played it often at our house, and that's how my son became interested in playing. I finally brought it to Heights Guitar Tech. It had warped years ago because of moisture in his house and the bridge had come off. I just wanted to see if it could be put back together for aesthetics, so my son could display it. When my husband went to pick it up, to our surprise it was repaired and playable! My son opened it on Christmas morning and played a sone from one of his Uncle's favorite bands and sang it. It was very emotional to all of us to hear that guitar again. One thing to remember, when taking it in for set up, let them know if you are wanting lower,medium, or higher action. They don't always ask and will default to medium. read more

This has officially become my go-to place! Highly recommend people to bring in their guitars here for set ups and maintenance. I brought in two guitars and I felt like I received two brand new guitars when I got them back. My flying-v Shecter was in need of a full set up and it was done perfectly. Brought in an art-100 Ibanez that just wasn't sounding right and Ed was more than helpful as soon as I walked in and expressed my concerns on the guitar. He checked it out for about 5/ten mins and quickly knew everything wrong with it and explained it thoroughly to me. Great place, work, and price. Only place in Houston like this really. Not a store with a repair shop attached. A repair shop with a handful of things for sale. I do believe word is getting out. They appear busier than other reviews suggest with same day turn around times. But my repair was not a same day job. Took a week which was completely appropriate. Plus, they always answer the phone. I've brought in guitars to other techs in Houston, but after a set up or repair there is always something else they missed or didn't fix. I brought my telecaster to Heights Guitar Tech a couple of days ago, and they installed new pickups and set up my guitar by the end of the day. Great service and everything feels and plays perfectly. Not to mention this was the cheapest option I've found in Houston. Thanks Ed! Update 11/17/16: Brought my p bass here recently to have the pickup changed and setup, and they finished the job within ~1 hour. These guys are amazing, friendly, and cool. They fixed my '57 Rickenbacker with speed and at a completely reasonable price. They took care not to alter my vintage instrument which i truly appreciate. A lot of shops give you a ton of attitude but these guys were friendly and cool....even with my 4 year old goofing off in their shop. The Guys at the Heights Guitar Tech are INCREDIBLE! I moved to Houston a little over a year ago from NJ, and i am SO thankful that i found this place for my guitar needs. I bought a BC Rich Warlock Kerry King Graphic Guitar a while back that was in terrible condition...The Bridge pick-up was beaten up, the Neck pick-up was held on by duct tape, i was missing knobs, the strap locks were rusty and bent and to top it all off, the bridge was severely bent forward. I wanted to fix it up to give to my Girlfriend for Christmas so I called them up and spoke to Ed who told me they could help me out. I showed up to the place around 12pm and was immediately suspicious given the surrounding area. I walked inside and was amazed. Its a small shop but very nice - they have beautiful guitars on the walls, and all the best tools of the trade. Most places like guitar center or other repair shops have a huge mark-up on their repair services, and take forever to get the job done. Ed told me exactly how much each part costed, he didn't push any over-the-top changes. He simply told me exactly what needed to be fixed, and the most effective, cost efficient way to do it. AND they told me it would be ready by tomorrow (surprisingly). We agreed on $120 for the complete set up, all of the fixes, the parts etc.. I got a call around 5:30pm the SAME DAY saying it was ready and i could come pick it up. Now, anyone in Houston knows that getting anywhere at 5:30pm is nearly impossible...I live in the Galleria (which is the epicenter of rush hour). After hearing this, Ed said that if needed, he would wait for me to get to the shop, which was SO nice of him! When i got there i was amazed to see the beautiful job that they did. I am SO satisfied with the service here. I will definitely be going back to these guys with my other guitars. I ABSOLUTELY recommend this place for everyone. I took my grandfather's 1950's Gibson mandolin in for a cleaning, tuning knobs replacement and electronics tune up. The mandolin has remained in its case, stored in my closet for 30 years (I don't play). I worked with Bob to get this done. He was extremely helpful and very courteous. These guys love what they do for it shows through in their work quality and service. The instrument looks almost brand new now. The charges were very reasonable. I absolutely love this place. Their guitar techs, Bob and Ed are great & really know what they're doing. I've had three guitars set-up here (one acoustic, two electrics). They also cut a new bridge saddle on a Martin did fret dress on a Tele for me in TWO HOURS!!!!! And rewired and setup a Strat in a matter of hours. Believe me - you will NOT get a quality turn around THAT fast ANYWHERE else in the Houston area. Their amp tech, Jim Mendenhall is absolutely phenomenal, and I cannot say enough good things about the quality of his work. He effectively rebuilt a vintage amp for me. I got an initial phone call within AN HOUR of dropping it off, and a quick diagnosis within another two hours, along with clear, detailed pictures showing the exact problem. I also got WEEKLY updates and pictures every step of the way. Most importantly, he responded to EVERY text and phone call in a very timely manner.
