Rex also didn't greet us the way he normally does. That evening he was lethargic, panting, refused his dinner, and had several episodes of loose stool. Overnight he developed profuse diarrhea and excessive drooling and stopped eating entirely. The next morning, August 5, we took him to the OSU Veterinary Medical Center Emergency Service, where he was diagnosed with severe septic pneumonia and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). He was hospitalized for over a week, requiring high-flow oxygen therapy, IV antibiotics, blood pressure support, and intensive monitoring before he stabilized enough to come home. Our vet bill for his treatment came to $17,148.74. Rex was healthy when we dropped him off. Within hours of pickup he was showing signs of serious illness, and he spent the following week in intensive care. We wanted to share this timeline, including the condition he was returned to us in , so other pet owners have the full picture before making a boarding decision.

We decided upon Animals R Special. Why? Let me tell you: We found this practice to be exactly what that particular puppy needed. Full service, exceptionally trained vets, who are also empathetic vets, exceptional support staff, and also a practice that is willing to titer vs push vaccines/unneeded procedures. We bring in Wanda. She was treated so well and the communication between vet and client so nice; when I got home I told my husband, "we are switching all of them to this practice" they are extraordinary. And that is exactly what I did today. Today we brought in our 12.5 yr old dog Mo. they knew he had anxiety so they prepped in advance for him. The entire exam was on the floor, with lots of love, cuddles, good boys, and peanut butter treats. He was like a completely different dog. Showed near zero anxiety. Thats the kind of vet I want. One that goes that extra step. They confirmed he was in fact super healthy, his teeth fine. The previous practice kept saying he had cancer and at one appt suggested amputating his leg due to cancer (which btw, he doesnt have, it was a lipoma. Aka fatty growth) and wanted teeth extracted (which I thought was odd as he had no problem eating kibble.). So glad we didnt listen to the former practice as Animals r Special confirmed he is completely healthy and needs none of that. Loki comes in next week. So: if you want an honest vet, that goes the extra mile for your animal and really knows what they are doing.... You have found the right practice. 100%. We have seen both vets at this practice and recommend both the doctors. You cant go wrong with any of the ppl here. Seriously, Animals R Special is the winning place to go to because at this practice the vets/staff here are more than special, they are extraordinary. Longer story: we took in a 2+ year-old rescue miniature-pinscher who was not even housebroken, let alone trained. He would bark at the drop of a hat, snarl at strangers, eat irregularly, sprint out of open doors/attempt escape from fencing, mark inside the house, anxiously guard resources (space and/or closeness to preferred humans), obstinately ignore commands; the run of the gamut for small dog issues. Enter Kevin and Capital Canine Dog Training's "21-Day Board and Train" program. From our initial emails and through the in-home consultation, we could tell we had a good fit with Kevin/Capital Canine. This was someone that understood our concerns and also spoke patiently and realistically about the results we could expect over the three weeks that our dog Milo would spend with Capital Canine. Just as important as the training that Milo would receive from Kevin would be the training that we would need to do to ourselves with help and advice of Capital Canine. Over the 21 days that Milo was in the "Board & Train" program, we got regular updates on his progress via texts, pictures, and videos, showing our boy was in good spirits and making strides. What we thought was impossible, Kevin and his team demonstrated was eminently, if incrementally, achievable with Milo in their hands and across varied exposure environments (in-house, outdoors, and in public places). Harrison and I are SO glad that we made the decision to train our dog, Hudson, with Capital Canine…read more Kevin is the absolute best, and we fully trusted him with our pup for the 3 week board and train program. Before training, Hudson struggled with separation anxiety, couldn't go in a crate or car, was very impulsive and would run away at the park with unreliable recall and boundaries. He is a very sweet natured and fun dog who is great with people, he just needed help learning how to control his energy. Harrison and I did not know where to begin with training, and we felt overwhelmed. Kevin made it extremely easy for us by doing all the hard work in establishing a behavioral foundation during the 3 week board and train. He even kept Hudson for an extra couple of days as he was committed to getting Hudson comfortable in a crate before bringing him home to us. The transformation has been incredible. After Hudson came home to us, there were immediate improvements. He could hold a place, sit, and down through distraction, and rest in his crate when asked. He understood how the E-collar worked, had better recall, and could heel and walk on a leash without pulling. These basic commands have truly changed our day to day and have helped us create more structure in Hudson's day. On top of the 3 week program, Capital Canine continued to be supportive and helpful. Kevin worked with us in 4 additional sessions after the board and train to teach Harrison and myself how to continue the training throughout different environments and scenarios. He would respond to texts in-between sessions when Harrison and I had questions or were unsure of how we were training. He was a great teacher and helped us understand how dogs think and how we can better communicate with them. We really looked forward to these sessions and enjoyed our time with Kevin! Hudson always had a blast too. A month has now passed since the board and train. We have kept up with Hudson's training and are confident taking Hudson in public, to parks, family and friend's houses, and he is a more confident dog in those spaces. The training has been life changing. I am so happy that we did this, not only because it makes our lives easier, but I also know it makes Hudson's life better too now that he knows boundaries and limits and doesn't have to feel as anxious as before. My dog had two spinal surgeries so I wanted to make sure he wasn't placed in any kennel during his visit, the staff listened and were super up front and informative. They use a sort of play pen instead of cages/crates. They texted me a photo of a broken nail my dog had prior to the visit that I forgot to mention. Afterwards you get an entire report on how your pup did including a photo. Will absolutely be back and can't recommend them enough. Thank you Lexi and the entire staff!!

Dr. Bryce gave our girl a titanium hip, and at her three month follow-up she was cleared for supervised playtime with other dogs! The compassion, communication, expertise and honest opinions of doctors and staff here were greatly appreciated. They gave us hope, and made it possible for our girl to live free of pain and full of life. We will be forever grateful for the pros at OSU!

A Beautiful Facility, a Heartbreaking Day, and 11 Hours of Waiting…read more We brought our sweet boy, Drake, to Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center because he was having breathing issues. We arrived just before 7 a.m. and were registered as an emergency. We were told he needed a heart scan and that it would take a while because they had other appointments and cases to handle. Long story short, we were there for 11 hours. We were the first to arrive and, as it turned out, the last to be seen. Throughout those 11 hours, we received only a couple of updates. Communication was definitely not their strong suit, and that made an already stressful and frightening situation even harder. While we waited, our sweet boy was receiving oxygen and sedation. When you're sitting there worried about your dog, wondering what's happening and whether he's going to be okay, the waiting and lack of communication take an emotional toll. When they finally performed the heart scan, there wasn't much more they could do for Drake. We were faced with the most heartbreaking decision any pet parent can make: letting our boy go. I want to give credit where it's due. Dr. Payton was kind, informative, and compassionate. When it came time to say goodbye to Drake, she treated us with kindness and compassion during one of the worst moments of our lives. For that, I am truly grateful. The facility itself is beautiful and spotless, and most of the staff we encountered were friendly. Those are definite positives. However, my biggest complaint is that we simply did not feel like a priority. We were told other emergencies had come in and that we would have to wait. Excuse me, what? We brought in our dog because he was having breathing issues, and he was registered as an emergency. I understand that emergency hospitals must triage patients, and some situations may be more critical than others. But waiting 11 hours for the necessary heart scan, with so little communication along the way, was incredibly frustrating and difficult to understand. When you bring your beloved pet to an emergency hospital, you expect urgency, communication, and some reassurance that your pet's condition is being monitored and taken seriously. We were left waiting far too long with too little information. Another major frustration I have with emergency veterinary care in general is the enormous financial deposit required up front. When your beloved pet is struggling, the last thing you want is to be worrying about how you're going to pay for treatment. Why aren't there more assistance programs or funding options to help families get their animals the care they need without having to come up with a huge amount of money immediately? I understand that veterinary hospitals have operating costs, but it breaks my heart to think about families who may have to make decisions based on finances when their pets need help. Would I recommend Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center? Yes, in an emergency, I would consider it, and based on my own experiences, I would choose it over MedVet. The facility is impressive, and Dr. Payton showed genuine compassion when we needed it most. That said, the communication and waiting times need serious improvement. An emergency is already frightening enough without spending 11 hours wondering when someone will be able to help your pet. At the end of the day, this review isn't just about a hospital or a long wait. It's about our boy, Drake. He was family, he was loved beyond words, and we did everything we could to help him. We are grateful for the kindness Dr. Payton showed us when it was time to say goodbye, but the experience leading up to that moment left us frustrated and disappointed. Our pets depend on us to advocate for them, and when we bring them to an emergency hospital, we need to feel that someone is advocating for them, too. Rest easy, our sweet Drake. She didn't have to say it in such a rude way. 6 hours later, we leave. We have been up with him all night worried sick. The lack of empathy was absolutely horrible. It was like we were just a bother to them. It was busy yesterday and there were emergency situations and I was asked to feel bad for them because it is rough in them. They didn't care about us at all. Trust me, I know it is rough and I feel bad but yesterday was absolutely awful the way we were treated

My wife and I have two corgi's. One of them had bitten my wife in the past, was aggressive towards…read moreother dogs and we were expecting a baby. On top of this both Corgi's became extremely aggressive towards each other. We had to keep them separated at all times, unless we wanted to risk getting a stray bite from trying to break them up. With a baby on the way I was faced with a decision. I could either get rid of one of the dogs, who was my first dog or look at alternative options: try to adopt out a dog known to be aggressive or probably end up euthanized. I was fortunate to be put in touch with Anton Yablonsky who scheduled a consultation came over and did an assessment based off of listening to our past history with the dogs. I love my dogs to death and was tearing up at the end knowing that I might have to say goodbye because I couldn't trust them around my child. Anton took the time to understand everything and both dogs were boarded once he could see that they both were aggressive towards each other. They were boarded for 6 weeks while he worked with them and what I appreciated was his honesty. They were initially scheduled to come back at 4 weeks, but he let me know that he didn't believe they were ready yet, so he kept them for an additional two weeks in order to ensure they were both properly trained. He did also stop by with the dogs, so we were able to see them in person during the training process which we both really appreciated because we did miss them. When our dogs were introduced back into our home, I was amazed at the change in their temperament. They are now calm, confident and well-behaved pets. We are truly able to enjoy our fur babies again! I can place them both on a doggy bed in my home office right next to each other and they will stay their all-day side by side without any aggression towards each other. They also understand commands on and off leash to a point where I said to my wife it's like they understand English perfectly now because they always listen to what I say. Walking with them is easy and I don't have to worry when another dog is walking towards them because they will follow my commands and sit while I speak with another dog owner. This is also true when I take them to the vet. The anxiety of having our dogs with a new baby in the house has subsided. I can't thank Anton Yablonsky enough for what he has done to save our dogs-literally. I continue to go to the group classes that he offers to continue to socialize and keep the dogs sharp with their training. I have already recommended Anton Yablonsky to friends in need. If you are struggling and want your dogs to be as happy ours, then Anton is the best trainer for the job!!!

She was up for adoption next I know she's somebody was supposed to call me back never did I would've taken her, but they said she was not allowed to be adopted for a few days. Somehow she got adopted out the next morning kind of suspicious to me. I've only seen one dog website that they even have in their building. I do not understand why I couldn't take her yesterday if she was available to be adopted today this morning Saturday the fifth very I fell in love with that little cookie is her name they said yesterday that she was mean with cats well, she seemed to be as friendly as sweet as could be would've taken her home, but they wouldn't let me. I'm just very unhappy with this place.
