This review is on the food, and not the candy or ice cream. First, the positive: Excellent customer service! The fries and onion rings were good. That's all. Negatives: The table was sticky. The burger was not tender or juicy. The sloppy Joe was not appetizing looking, and tasted like it looked. The booth seats--not sure why the edge of seat is a slight elevated hump where you just can't slide out of seat easily. I think they need to stick with selling candy and ice cream. I would not take a chance on trying any other food items. read more

The food was great! I got some of their butter fries and chili and the root beer was amazing. The ambiance is also amazing with the carnation queens on the wall. And the server was some of the best! I talked to one of the chefs because I knew him he calls himself chef Ty or chef moose read more

Heggy's Confectionery - Chef Ty or chef moose - Candy Stores Near Me - Alliance, Ohio

We've ordered candy from Heggy's Confectionary for years, carrying on a tradition of my grandparents that were from Ohio. What else to say but DELICIOUS! Their chocolate is out of this world, with a number of options to choose from. The shipping has an option for cool packs to keep your chocolate safe. Always great customer service. Thanks Heggy's Confectionary!! read more

I was gifted the chocolates and a bag of nuts. Unfortunately, my favorite was Carmel and did not get one in the bunch. Very disappointing.

Heggy's Confectionery uses the finest ingredients in all its products whether it's milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate. The variety of nuts they sell are of premium quality as well. Ordering them online is easy or you can visit their shops the next time you're in town. read more

My wife and I tried Heggy's while traveling in Ohio. The breakfast was very good and there was lots of it. I had the meat lovers omelette and was not disappointed. Service was good and prompt! I will go again when I travel through. They had candy too! read more

Maybe it's just nostalgia on my part, but I love this place! It's in the town where my dad grew up, so we gave enjoyed their candy & nuts since childhood. Today was no exception. The dark chocolate brownie tastes just like I remember! Individually wrapped, they are easy to enjoy one at a time. I can't speak for the food or ice cream, I've never eaten there, but I will try it sometime. I'll be back again,I know! read more

Heggy's Confectionery - Yummy chocolates! - Candy Stores Near Me - Alliance, Ohio

I have been receiving Heggy milk chocolate caramels every Christmas for the past 10 to 15 years. They are so popular that the main Heggy store sells out and unfortunately we were unable to purchase them in time this year. I was thrilled to find the same caramels offered at Heggy's Confectioners. When the box arrived looking identical to the originals, I was so happy. Happy until I took my first bite. These look the same but they taste old. There is a crusty layer between the milk chocolate and the caramel portion and the caramel is grainy, not silky smooth. It seems that these may have been acquired or made a long time ago and are stale. When I contacted the seller, I received no response. When I looked up returns on the website I found out that they expect the unhappy consumer to return the item at their own expense! Wow! Talk about horrible customers service! $45 plus shipping for nothing and I'm certainly not going to spend more money to return a poor quality product. Do yourself a favor, and purchase directly from the Canton store! read more

The coffee was water bit great for grandparents. Took years to get service. Atleast the eggs were eggs

Our favorite place to go- especially after picking my boys up from school! They ask to go every day. The best grilled cheese sandwich, butter fries and Rootbeer!! Their homemade icecream is also incredible. Can't forget the delicious candies too. We love Heggy's!! read more

Customer service was good; but ordered food to go and the portion sizes are minimal at best and bland food. Extremely disappointed for all the rave reviews from the locals. read more

So many good memories of this small diner. From down town Main Street Alliance, to State Street location it had been the place to go for breakfast, burgers, fries, and even dinner at times. Not sure what happened, maybe the competition in the area is pressuring them. Quality isn't there, and oddly, service is not even at fast food levels of service today. Ironically, a year ago Monday I went in late morning and tried to order breakfast. It was 15 minutes before the menu deadline, two tables occupied, but, they had already switched "to lunch" items. No more breakfast. I left but did return that evening for the Shrimp dinner. It was the same commercial breaded shrimp pack drive-in diners serve, and, over fried so it was dripping in oil. Not so pleasant. Owner wasn't there, maybe that was why nobody seemed to care. Fast forward to Monday now a year later and almost the same thing happened in the late morning. The place had one table occupied...I only wanted eggs and bacon. Bacon was probably ready for the day, but they just had switched out "to lunch" a few minutes ago (early). They wouldn't make breakfast. The capstone for me was the look on the waitress and cooks faces when I said "Ok, Thanks anyways" and left. They seemed puzzled I didn't want to eat something from the lunch menu. I get they have a small shop, but this was just silly. There was ONE booth occupied. They also don't seem to have any business (cars) when I've driven by on my way to other eating places the past couple days. It a shame to see the location go downhill so far from what the family had for many years. I loved this place as a kid, teen, and over the years frequented when in town. Who doesn't love the old style booths that Wade Ray build for Jack all those years ago. So, maybe would have rated higher if I actually ate there. They just don't seem to need/want the customers. I'll be back in late December, and will probably try again for nostalgia sake as I will have my kids with me to share part of my childhood. Maybe. read more

This was my first visit to a Heggy Candy Store. In Alliance, they also have a restaurant which was a surprise when I walked into the store. I was with two other adults and we decided to stay for dinner. The milkshakes were excellent and the food selections on the menu that we selected were very good. Prices were reasonable, our server did a good job but had to staff the candy section between stops at our table. Frankly, this meal turned out to be better than I expected and the treat after our meal was buying candy. read more

Fast service always polite and friendly amazing ice cream and food if in town I'd stop by it has a lovely at home feeling from the olden days nice place to stop relax and eat. read more

Sad to say. I stood there for 5 minute, waiting to be acknowledged to purchase candy and ice cream. No one greeted me. On top of that, two separate parties came up to the same area and was taken care of. If the owner cared, check your camera and you will see the poor customer service. read more

Three stars only cause we were passing thru. We literally came to get boxes of candy to go so can't give it a full 5 stars. However adorable little place....great candy and pleasant service read more

Food is a 3 but their candy is a 10! Loved this place as a kid but not impressed with the current state of the food. However-the candy is still as good as I remember it. So I will stop in when I visit Alliance to bring a box home. read more

We have loved this place since birth. A nostalgic visit. Where else can you find a deviled eggs sandwich on the menu? Fast and friendly service as always. Love walking in to bar stools full of old time regulars talking it up. Ordered their famously known butter fries and was very disappointed as they we soggy. These used to be our favorite fries. Ever. We are still granting a 5 star review for overall greatness over the long years. There is also an old fashioned juke box for those who like to play. Walking up to pay your bill you are overwhelmed with the uncontrollable urge to buy a box of homemade chocolates, or two boxes even! We highly recommend this action as it will make you extremely happy and probably be the highlight of your week. We have four words for you...Dark Chocolate Covered Marshmallows. Yes. You read that right. read more

For local color stop by Heggy's for breakfast or lunch. It's all typical fare with average service. They must purposely have it set up so you pay at the register. You are forced to look at all the chocolates and nuts and other delectables that they make available by the pound. Heggy's is well respected for their chocolates and they will deliver them anywhere in the world! The five stars is for their confections. read more

This is a cute place and a throw-back to another decade...like the 60's or 70's. The menu surely hasn't changed much since then - but the prices haven't either! Food is just fine, especially if you're looking for comfort/diner food like meatloaf, mac and cheese, and applesauce. The almond bark in the candy section is also good. read more

Sloppy Joe and Connie dog very good fries were also very good got bill and I can not believe paying 3.35 for a BLT sandwich and they charged on bill an extra 10 cents for mayo! read more

This place is great! I remember as a kid always getting a big plate full of fresh cut French fries with butter melted on the top... YUM!!! The candy there is just delicious, especially their butterscotch caramels, literally to die for! Although I have lived in Los Angeles for 20+ years, I still get a big box of Heggy's candy along with their cashews and their mixed nuts every year for Christmas! My entire family looks forward to the gold box to arrive! When we do make it back to Alliance, we are always sure to make the time to go there and we are never disappointed! They have melt in your mouth chocolate mints, amazing caramels and lots of chocolate goodies too! I LOVE THIS PLACE!! read more

Sad to say that we purchased 2 lbs. Of the mixed nuts on Christmas Eve 2016. They were very stale. We had gotten some the previous year up in Canton, and they were wonderful. Needless to say, we will not purchase again from the Alliance store. read more

The food is terrific! However, the service is poor, hence the 3 star rating. The wait staff are not very friendly, they don't greet you or even smile. They do the bare minimum that they have to do. I went in to get an ice cream cone, because their ice cream is the best and had to stand there for over 5 minutes. Meanwhile a waiter was right behind the counter talking to other waiters and kept looking over at me. Finally I said, "Can I please get some ice cream? That's why I've been standing here." The kid finally came over and then he didn't even know which ice cream was the one I asked for, I had to show him where it was! Also noticed the cook was eating the food while she was cooking it...very classy! That's not how you run a business, in my opinion, someone needs to get in there and start cleaning up the place. read more

How disappointed I was. The owner has been a cheap skate for years, but recently it is becoming worse. Everything was literally measured out in cups when we got our food and all the food is made from cheap products. Do yourself a favor and you can go to McDonald's and get something better, and that is very sad. Stay away. read more

I take my children to Heggys after school for an ice cream treat. Their ice cream is really good. We enjoy their vanilla, mint chocolate chip, chocolate and Butter pecan ice cream flavors. Their butter pecan ice cream is the best ever! The employees are very nice. We like eating at the counter. The place has a small town diner feel to it. We really like the atmosphere. read more
