Maybe it's just nostalgia on my part, but I love this place! It's in the town where my dad grew up, so we gave enjoyed their candy & nuts since childhood. Today was no exception. I have been receiving Heggy milk chocolate caramels every Christmas for the past 10 to 15 years. They are so popular that the main Heggy store sells out and unfortunately we were unable to purchase them in time this year. I was thrilled to find the same caramels offered at Heggy's Confectioners. When the box arrived looking identical to the originals, I was so happy. Happy until I took my first bite. These look the same but they taste old. There is a crusty layer between the milk chocolate and the caramel portion and the caramel is grainy, not silky smooth. It seems that these may have been acquired or made a long time ago and are stale. When I contacted the seller, I received no response. When I looked up returns on the website I found out that they expect the unhappy consumer to return the item at their own expense! Wow! Talk about horrible customers service! $45 plus shipping for nothing and I'm certainly not going to spend more money to return a poor quality product. Do yourself a favor, and purchase directly from the Canton store! read more

So many good memories of this small diner. From down town Main Street Alliance, to State Street location it had been the place to go for breakfast, burgers, fries, and even dinner at times. Not sure what happened, maybe the competition in the area is pressuring them. Quality isn't there, and oddly, service is not even at fast food levels of service today. Ironically, a year ago Monday I went in late morning and tried to order breakfast. It was 15 minutes before the menu deadline, two tables occupied, but, they had already switched "to lunch" items. No more breakfast. I left but did return that evening for the Shrimp dinner. It was the same commercial breaded shrimp pack drive-in diners serve, and, over fried so it was dripping in oil. Not so pleasant. Owner wasn't there, maybe that was why nobody seemed to care. Fast forward to Monday now a year later and almost the same thing happened in the late morning. The place had one table occupied...I only wanted eggs and bacon. Bacon was probably ready for the day, but they just had switched out "to lunch" a few minutes ago (early). They wouldn't make breakfast. The capstone for me was the look on the waitress and cooks faces when I said "Ok, Thanks anyways" and left. They seemed puzzled I didn't want to eat something from the lunch menu. I get they have a small shop, but this was just silly. There was ONE booth occupied. They also don't seem to have any business (cars) when I've driven by on my way to other eating places the past couple days. It a shame to see the location go downhill so far from what the family had for many years. I loved this place as a kid, teen, and over the years frequented when in town. Who doesn't love the old style booths that Wade Ray build for Jack all those years ago. So, maybe would have rated higher if I actually ate there. They just don't seem to need/want the customers. I'll be back in late December, and will probably try again for nostalgia sake as I will have my kids with me to share part of my childhood. Maybe. read more

This was my first visit to a Heggy Candy Store. In Alliance, they also have a restaurant which was a surprise when I walked into the store. I was with two other adults and we decided to stay for dinner. The milkshakes were excellent and the food selections on the menu that we selected were very good. Prices were reasonable, our server did a good job but had to staff the candy section between stops at our table. Frankly, this meal turned out to be better than I expected and the treat after our meal was buying candy. read more

Sad to say. I stood there for 5 minute, waiting to be acknowledged to purchase candy and ice cream. No one greeted me. On top of that, two separate parties came up to the same area and was taken care of. If the owner cared, check your camera and you will see the poor customer service. read more

We have loved this place since birth. A nostalgic visit. Where else can you find a deviled eggs sandwich on the menu? Fast and friendly service as always. Love walking in to bar stools full of old time regulars talking it up. Ordered their famously known butter fries and was very disappointed as they we soggy. These used to be our favorite fries. Ever. We are still granting a 5 star review for overall greatness over the long years. There is also an old fashioned juke box for those who like to play. Walking up to pay your bill you are overwhelmed with the uncontrollable urge to buy a box of homemade chocolates, or two boxes even! For local color stop by Heggy's for breakfast or lunch. It's all typical fare with average service. They must purposely have it set up so you pay at the register. You are forced to look at all the chocolates and nuts and other delectables that they make available by the pound. This is a cute place and a throw-back to another decade...like the 60's or 70's. The menu surely hasn't changed much since then - but the prices haven't either! This place is great! I remember as a kid always getting a big plate full of fresh cut French fries with butter melted on the top... YUM!!! The candy there is just delicious, especially their butterscotch caramels, literally to die for! Although I have lived in Los Angeles for 20+ years, I still get a big box of Heggy's candy along with their cashews and their mixed nuts every year for Christmas! My entire family looks forward to the gold box to arrive! When we do make it back to Alliance, we are always sure to make the time to go there and we are never disappointed! Sad to say that we purchased 2 lbs. Of the mixed nuts on Christmas Eve 2016. They were very stale. We had gotten some the previous year up in Canton, and they were wonderful. Needless to say, we will not purchase again from the Alliance store. read more

The food is terrific! However, the service is poor, hence the 3 star rating. The wait staff are not very friendly, they don't greet you or even smile. They do the bare minimum that they have to do. I went in to get an ice cream cone, because their ice cream is the best and had to stand there for over 5 minutes. Meanwhile a waiter was right behind the counter talking to other waiters and kept looking over at me. Finally I said, "Can I please get some ice cream? That's why I've been standing here." The kid finally came over and then he didn't even know which ice cream was the one I asked for, I had to show him where it was! Also noticed the cook was eating the food while she was cooking it...very classy! That's not how you run a business, in my opinion, someone needs to get in there and start cleaning up the place. read more

How disappointed I was. The owner has been a cheap skate for years, but recently it is becoming worse. Everything was literally measured out in cups when we got our food and all the food is made from cheap products. I take my children to Heggys after school for an ice cream treat. Their ice cream is really good. We enjoy their vanilla, mint chocolate chip, chocolate and Butter pecan ice cream flavors.
