Hidden delight!…read more After spending a few hours antiquing through Salado, we were hungry. Not wanting fast food, and driving down Main Street, our choices were burgers or pizza. We did a u-turn and after coming to a stop to let some folks cross the street, we glanced to our left and saw the Fiesta Salado sign, and boy are glad we did, It's not directly on Main Street, it's towards the back of a little shopping area, but so with it, the salsa was perfect, the drinks were kept full, and the food was delicious. I had the chicken tinga toastadas and my friend had the ground beef empanadas. OMG we licked the plates clean. You could see the crew working were keeping an eye on things and never let the salsa run empty or our drinks go dry. I'll definitely be back.

The restaurant wasn't full this Saturday morning, but the two hosts/waiters worked 4 - 5 tables with no trouble at all. I had the chicken tostada and was perfectly satisfied. The wait staff was phenomenal, and by staff I mean the one waitress who was taking care of the entire room and not missing a beat. We ordered the small shrimp quesadilla which had a great ranchero sauce, and the enchilada combo. The suiza sauce on my enchiladas was excellent, perfect salsa verde mixed in! If you are passing through and want to avoid the bustle of the big cities on 35, stop here instead.

Instead of just chips and salsa, the basket has both chips and chicharrons, and a bean dip as well. Generous amount, didn't run out, and tasted fresh. We had the Chile Rellano and white chicken enchiladas, pretty tasty and filling. Most of the food needed a touch of salt, and wasn't spicy. If you have to watch salt intake, or have issues with over spiced food, this would be a good option. Tea was served in mason jars, been a while since I've seen that. I had the chorizo and egg taco and the al pastor taco for $3 each. Make sure to bring cash as they charge $0.50 for credit card transactions. The tortillas were just the slightest bit burnt, but otherwise I really liked these tacos. The mild salsa didn't have much of a flavour. The ladies were very nice.

We moved to Salado from San Antonio, and I learned a long time ago that some of the best breakfast…read moretacos come from the oldest-looking food trucks. This place did not let me down! They load up the tacos, and they're full of that greasy, delicious breakfast taco flavor you want in the morning. Their chorizo is especially good, and you get plenty of food for the price. Don't try showing up around 7:30 expecting to have the place to yourself. It'll be packed with anybody in town who has a taste bud. There's not much in the way of amenities. It's basically a couple of outdoor tables and a pergola, but that's part of the charm. What they lack in fancy seating, they more than make up for with great food, big tacos, and good prices. Coming from San Antonio, I have pretty high expectations for breakfast tacos. This place passes the test.

I mentioned to my wife that these kinds of places often have kitchens and boy we were in luck. The man in charge, Albert, descended on us and started simultaneously asking what we wanted to order AND praising the virtues of his tamales, among other things. But he had me at "Birria". After being introduced to birria tacos by my lifelong friend, Joel, I have been a huge fan ever since. So we called an audible and decided to get an order for takeout (Albert could convince you to buy anything, I think). We got two orders of Corn QuesaBirria Tacos and the Jalapeño Popper Specialty Taco. Both were great and I especially liked the Birria Tacos, even eating my wife's portion... "You going to eat that?" Outside of the corner kitchen, convenience store is great, with all of the different varieties of foods, beers and other items that you would expect at Mexican convenience store.

The queso was very good, and the homemade chips were a nice touch. They also let us mix and match tacos as long as we stayed with the same protein, which gave us a chance to try a few different options. Drinks were reasonably priced too. We went for date night, but the place definitely had more of a "dinner and beers with friends" vibe than a date-night atmosphere. That's not a bad thing, just a different feel than what we were looking for that night. Service was fine. We were only people in there so hard to screw that one up! We'll definitely be back. Maybe someday you'll find us there having tacos and beers with friends...once we get some friends.
