The rooms are beautifully decorated. Because the hotel is on the outskirts of town there is very little noise from traffic meaning a peaceful nights sleep. The hotel is an ideal location for weddings or other functions. Their staff are friendly and always helpful in meeting your needs.

Rooms and the dining area have recently been refubished to a high standard which is fantastic as it was starting to get a bit dated. The hotel itself retains some nice features and is always a popular location for wedding receptions and large functions, staff are friendly and helpful though there's a fairly large turnover of catering/waitressing/other part time/low paid staff. There's also a public bar attached (as well as the private hotel bars) but it really needs updating as is very grubby and not great really! The caberfeidh is part of the same group (the cala group) as the other two hotels in town.

It is a beautiful hotel which over looks a loch giving the surrounding a very peaceful tranquil feel to it. They have many rooms available, all of which I believe are en-suite and reasonably priced. They provide food from lunch until late which is delicious, even us locals go there for lunch! They also have a bar where you can relax with a drink after a day of sight seeing. The staff are friendly and helpful and their service is brilliant. If you are looking to stay outside of Stornoway then this is one of the hotel that would be highly recommended.

We're not staying at the hotel so I can't give any information on that. But the pub next door is perfect for coming off of a hike and rolling in to get a pint of the local brew and a slice... They don't serve pizza till 5, so if you are coming here for grinds before that, best to make alternative plans; but if you are here for the local scene, there's a full bar, scottish music and plenty of seating options.

This campsite is all about the views, which are incredibly beautiful…read more Berie Sands are a beautiful stretch of white sands, with lovely outcrops of rocks and eilands. The night we were there, we went a walk along the beach as the daylight was fading, and were taken aback at how beautiful the scenery was, and the colours of the landscape and sky. We were even lucky enough to be accompanied by a seal bobbing along, keeping an eye on us. We were able to park our motor home right at the top of the sand dune, so had an outstanding view last thing at night and first thing in the morning. The site facilities are basic. There is an unheated wash block with 2 toilet cubicles, 2 sinks, and 2 showers, but one of the showers doesn't work. Showers are £1 for 8 minutes, so if you have long hair like I have, you'd better be quick! There are no hairdryers but there are plug sockets on the outside, at the entrance to the toilets, which you can plug a hairdryer into. There is a big dish-washing sink, chemical toilet waste disposal point, and very good recycling points. There is no grey water disposal point. There are no electrical hook ups for motor homes. But really, although it is fairly basic, apart from electrical hook up points (which you don't really need anyway), this site has everything you need, and the views were the best we saw from any campsite. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

A warning to those with allergies/intolerances…read more I'll preface this by saying that I was not allergic/intolerant to the item that I requested was not included in my meal. In all honesty I'd just prefer not to have it. I've worked in a food service environment in the past and would not find this wholly unreasonable as it was basically a garnish to be added literally seconds before the dish was to be expedited rather than altering a major part of the dish. Around half-way through eating I found evidence that the item that I had requested NOT to be added to my order had, in fact, either been on the plate and pulled off at the last minute without the plate being changed or an incident of cross-contamination (both absolutely unacceptable in my opinion). Not a big issue for me, but for those with allergies or intolerances this is *completely* unacceptable. Like many people, I have less than 60 minutes to take my lunch break during work; I waited 10 minutes after being seated for my drink order to be taken and in total it took 40+ minutes from placing the drink order to my food being served. There was 3 other tables seated in the restaurant at the time so I'm not entirely sure what caused the delay in preparing a relatively simple (in my opinion) dish. I witnessed a table of 3 leave complaining about lack of choice on the lunch menu - 4 main meals in total and a few sandwiches that I disregarded because I wanted something cooked. There was a very unprofessional-looking notice on the door of the main entrance (a sheet of A4 paper haphazardly stuffed into a poly-pocket and sellotaped to the glass, saying that the Indian menu was not available at present). Note: it was not a server that took my order, it was the owner of the establishment. My drink order was incorrect but not way off so I didn't bother complaining. As previously mentioned I have worked in both customer service and food service environments in the past 15 years and do not feel that it is appropriate to hurl abuse to a customer-facing colleague about my true feelings when I know for an absolute fact that the individual colleague is not at fault at all. Perhaps it's the teenage retail worker in me that lies to the person asking me "was everything OK for you?", sighing and replying "yes" so as not to demoralise an innocent party and dampen their mood even further than I imagine the owner does already. Nobody needs that at work. A very minor point, but the pepper shaker at my table was cracked and leaking small grains. Again, a very minor issue but if the owner and senior management are willing to overlook this then I dread to imagine then major issues that they have been made aware of. EDIT: to the owner, I do not have to remain anonymous, should you wish to contact me directly I will tell you exactly this either over the phone or in person. Also, this being a small community I have word-of-mouth recounts from several acquaintances that have previously worked for you. I have decided not to post them here as they are not my personal opinion, but as you know, word spreads fast in a small community and from a first-hand view of the way I've witnessed you behave towards both customers and contractors in the establishment, unfortunately for you I am inclined to believe every word they say.

The terminal and its holding lanes were easy to spot driving through Tarbert, and it was not too far from a nearby Harris Tweed store that I recognized from the day before. Holding lanes were tucked back from the main road and did not get too loud while waiting. A short walk away was a restroom building. Maneuvering onto the ferry via the terminal loading/unloading dock was straightforward and a smooth drive.

The tour guide really made the visit…read more We stopped in briefly expecting to only spend a few minutes here exploring two buildings, but as we were walking through the first building, a guide came in and had everyone sit down to explain the history and what we were looking at. He proceeded to give the history of the blackhouses including how they were improved over the decades with tile flooring, wood panel on the walls, and other improvements. The highlight was showing the Yorkshire-made automatic loom complete with the punch-hole program to make it able to weave tartan patterns and we could feel wool that the loom had actually woven. The loom was broken at the moment, but apparently being fixed and still used. It was a great exploration of the history of Lewis from a very real perspective and a lot of fun.

When I found out I decided that it was the best option for my holiday considering that (coincidence!) It was one of my dreams to vist the Outer Hebrides. I stayed in Taigh Glass, a lovelly thatched blackhouse with enough space for 5 people, incredibly tidy and modern inside, with underfloor heating, a large bathroom and a stove with a daily supply of coal. The facilities were easily accessible for the disabled as well. The lady who runs the place was incredibly helpful and warm, not to mention her patience when I wanted her to teach me some gaelic expressions! The location is absolutely superb: a bay with a few islets on the horizon, feels like the edge of the world, and this is what I was looking for. There was only another family in the village when we visited and no tourists at all, so it felt like we had the entire place at our disposal, to walk around with my little sister and play. It felt like living in a distant past, though we didn't lack modern commodities. A great experience which I warmy reccomend to enyone interested in the Hebrides and their history.
