So like Infamous diner, Walrus, Rosylee etc it was a case of going once (potentially 2 or 3 times to the others if with friends) and really not having any desire to go back. Here's some points: * Very well designed, they've done a good job of revamping KRO. * Beer selection was pretty average, all the usual suspects from usual importer. * My wife's salted caramel espresso martini was very poor - so watery and not a hint of salted caramel - these are the attention to detail points I talk about earlier that need attention across all the bars as it sounded great on the nicely printed menu, but tasted very poor. Here's hoping things improve, from what I hear from friends on 2 separate occasions, the coffee is very weak, watery and poor so hopefully just some teething problems before staff are trained etc.

Came here with a big group and had no problem finding seats and the staff were only too happy to help! Ordered nachos with chilli to share which is a whopping £8 I think it was as its £6 for just plan nachos.. bit much if you ask me! They do have calamari but its old style onion ring type affair- clearly from frozen but at at least they're trying! Would come here again, big beer garden and patio heaters at the front- great in summer I would imagine.

AND..(.yes this is a big AND), they also have snyders jalapeno pretzels....which quite frankly are the only reason i ever eat pretzels. The place itself is small, but through a good seating plan can easily accommodate up to 30 people and still feel uncrowded. The shop is positioned towards the back and by the looks of it (see picture) has lots to choose from. whilst i don't drink beer myself (only cider), i know it must be a good choice as my husband spends ages deciding and has that look of glee in his eye. Its a really nice little place, with great beer, good seating and really friendly staff. I will be returning....often.

The prices are pretty high so it's more a treat place (if you want a bargain quality bottle option, head to Bargain Booze in Davenport). On tap there were 5 Robbies classics (we tried the Citra - ok but not quite enough citra in it for my liking and compared with the likes of Oakham ales same type) and there's 5 guest beers on tap from exciting craft beer breweries. Sandwiched in between there's still room for all the usual lagers and they have Brooklyn and Blue Moon on tap. Prices are fairly decent really (compared to Manchester city centre) and its refreshing to see the pricing reflected in the strength of the ale and fairly transparent in what you're actually paying when ordering a beer. We were drinking the Great Heck hoppy wheat beer mainly - if you see it on tap somewhere then make sure you get yourself onto it, so so good! On 10th April, a new snazzy place has taken over the posh Gin Club, which I so dearly loved! Bar 43 is what its called, (ring a bell to Bar 38 near the AMC Cinemas?) and it is not a bad looker to be honest! The place is big enough, not huge. It is dimlit and has walls of velvet, yes, imagine someone throwing up or spilling drinks, its all going to stay there for a very long long time! Ok, lets not think about that! The bar is equipped with ok-ish bar tenders who think they're amazing. Well, they did put efforts into putting a fire-bottle show and then landed up spraying some drinks on me and a friend who happened to walk in here, looking for the Gin Club on a saturday night. The place inside has little stools and little round tables all with candles. It could be the new dressy place Fallowfield would witness! The drinks are fairly priced. £5.20 for regualr cocktails and £2.50 for a 175ml glass of wine and the shots are priced at just £2, if it stays this way, it wouldn't be a bad place to dress up and come to! The live music of the Gin Club was definitely a plus point that this place is going to be missing, gahh, why did it have to go! It had a different feel to it all together! Right from the name to the place, it was something different! Now its been replaced by a commercial posh-bar thing. Oh well, maybe in time, acceptance will be recieved to bar 43! It categorically failed on that count. Aesthetically very little has changed here - there is some new twirly, baroque-patterned fabric wallpaper; three flatscreen TVs bolted to the wall; the bar has some mirrors behind it now but essentially it is the same place. Except that it really isn't. They killed the vibe, they just killed it man. Instead of laid back jazz, funk and hip-hop (a sample Gin Club playlist might have included Isaac Hayes, RJD2 and Peggy Lee) they now play (very loud) chart dance and r'n'b, which although not bad in itself does mean there is yet another bar in Fallowfield that plays the same music. Gone too is the live music, a really great loss. The cocktail menu is essentially the same but everything seems to have gone up by £1, the quality though leaves much to be desired (although most of this owes to the rookie bar staff). On the plus side beer and cider prices have remained pretty much static at around, or under, £3 a pint and a double and mixer costs around the same price. This isn't enough to pull it back from the brink though - everything that made Gin Club special and interesting has gone and been replaced by what is effectively a serial number.
