Our go to place to get meat and eggs from a small farm that's not factory farming, lots of great produce and products from other local farms.

I was kind of glad I did not see those Black Angus cow roaming around because the experience might be too direct farm to table for me. But rest assured that at Heatherlea Farm Shoppe you would able to get a piece of those ethically raising pasture-fed Black Angus beef. Butcher on site so you can have whatever cut you need and the staff is friendly and glad to help with your selection. Aside from beef, there is also chicken, lamb, emu, pork and more, even seafood. Sweetbreads? Lungs? Liver? And a lot of different cuts and animal parts available; fresh or frozen. You are though paying more than from your local supermarkets but at least you know exactly where and how your meat (drug-free, hormone-free, free-run, pasture-raised) gets to your dinner table and we are what we eat. Aside from meat shop, there is also a small cafe with a few tables where you can order a snack or a cup of coffee/tea.

As expected there was no seating available due to Covid-19. The food quality from the hot table was moderate (hence the 3*'s). Had a salami calzone for lunch. We also bought a blueberry/strawberry scone/biscuit. I deducted a star cause the biscuit was virtually tasteless. Almost zero taste! Found that strange considering the cost was $3.50! I'd do over but just the gelato this time.

We got almond cookies, hazelnut cookies with chocolate, pecan butter tart, strawberry cheesecake, apple strudel. My son thought the strudel was sweet. He likes uncle tetsu cheesecakes which aren't too sweet. The almond cookies had too much vanilla in them. There was an aftertaste that wasn't the best The hazelnut had the same issue. The butter tarts were good. Sweet not overly runny. You could bite them and they didn't drip out but not a firm Filling either. My friend bought the chocolate pecan? Butter tart and it was quite good. The I thought the chocolate added to it. Was worried it would make it too sweet. The Apple strudel was pretty good. I always like pastry no filo please!!!! Anyways kinda reminded me of what you'd buy in a store. I think the filling is the kind that comes from a bucket. So I don't think I'd get again unless I was in a strudel mood. I do have a weakness for strudel. Saturday mornings at st Lawrence market has a better one if she is still there. I definitely need to go back to Try the food!!'

So - I was excited when she went to a friend's birthday party and actually ATE the WHOLE cupcake! It was a Monsters Inc theme and she ate the "Boo" cupcake. Not only was the cupcake adorable and delicious, but inside there was a surprise gummy bear! Needless to say, my daughter's birthday is here and I got the contact info from the friend's mom. We already had the cake booked (part of the package at an indoor playground) but I had gone to the OMG website and saw DISNEY FROZEN OLAF COOKIES! My daughter's birthday theme is, of course, Frozen - PERFECT! Together with a little gift card from Menchies, our birthday guests are getting these adorable Olaf cookies! Valerie and her aunt are the owners. I live in Markham but got to pick up my order in Thornhill, even though Valerie is based in Bolton. Valerie was prompt in answering my many many emails - I was humming and hawing over cookies or cupcakes, but decided on cookies because they travel and keep better. I am very excited to have found Valerie - she is one of these local gems that you won't be able to find on a Google search. Her style is tasteful and everything is delicious! Thanks Valerie - our family has already "sampled" a few cookies and the party is tomorrow. I'm going to have to hide the rest so that we have enough for our guests!

What brought me to Tin Roof Cafe in Erin was my son's baseball game against the local team. With time to kill and bellies to fill before first pitch, we stopped by Tin Roof Cafe. It looked like the most promising spot in town, and we were fortunate to squeeze in an hour there before their daily 6 p.m. closing time. My son ordered the Tin Roof BLT, and everything about it tasted incredibly fresh. I especially appreciated that they used locally baked bread instead of the typical store-bought variety. (If you're wondering, they also offer a regular BLT--but you won't get the turkey, avocado, or chipotle mayo that make the Tin Roof version so special.) It was a delicious sandwich from start to finish. For myself, I ordered the Nutellaccino. It was surprisingly good. The Nutella added a nutty richness to the coffee without making it crazily sweet. We also ordered a peanut butter brownie to go. Since my son was eating his sandwich first, the staff kindly offered to keep the brownie in the fridge until we were ready to leave. However, since we still had some time to kill and of course a sweet tooth, so we ended up eating the brownie before we left. The brownie was so...good. You could tell it was homemade, and even the peanut butter was homemade. The only disappointment was that I visited during the summer. Otherwise, I definitely would have tried one of their soups, which unfortunately aren't available during the warmer months. I love coffee shops with personality, and Tin Roof Cafe has plenty of it. Its cozy, funky village vibe made our one-hour visit feel warm, welcoming, and memorable. It's exactly the kind of local café that makes a small-town stop worthwhile.

They also have a small supermarket in there that serves products that they make out of the apples and other things that they grow on the farm but you can also buy some local goods there as well and you can view the pizzas being made in the stone oven. They offer a group tours twice a day, it's best that you book ahead. I took the tour.. the place is quite small I don't know if I necessarily would do the tour again I don't know if it really did that much enhancement to my experience. But the tour does come with three samples and you get a $5 voucher towards the restaurant if you choose to dine at the restaurant They have different options that you can try, cider flights both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I chose alcohol and every single cider that I tried including the ones on the tour I absolutely love, they have a lower sugar content than traditional ciders that you buy at the LCBO which gives them a lighter refreshing feel. For their regular flavors I thought the draught cider was the best. And for the seasonal they had a sangria cider that was absolutely refreshing as well I tried the cambert cheese I believe.. it was that came with their gooseberry jelly oh my goodness that jelly was absolutely delicious and they do sell it in the market. I also tried their pizza and I thought the pizza was absolutely delicious I got the large which is a shareable I also noted that the staff seemed genuinely happy from the servers to the hostess to the tour guide. In 2025 a lot of places you go it feels like people do not want to be at their place of work so that was nice to experience.
