BUYER BEWARE!!! My mother was a resident of Preston Pointe,…read morean independent senior living facility, for less than one month when she fell and broke her arm. The financial burden and stress which occurred next would completely take my family by surprise. When we moved Mom out of my house to a separate living situation, I wanted to make it her last move and ensure that her needs would be met without needing to move her again. Grant Fessler, the "Lifestyle Counselor", provided me with the impression that she would be able to transition in place if she needed more care. That proved to be a totally false statement. What happened was that we were required to pay an on-site service $22 per hour for 24-hour care if Mom was to remain at Preston Pointe once she completed her rehabilitation elsewhere. The 24-hour care requirement was put in place to ensure her safety and well-being, according to the staff I spoke with. With the cost of her living arrangements, that put her monthly cost at OVER $30,000. My main complaint is that Preston Pointe misled me. If they were really an organization that was focused first on care and less on profitability, they would have been very specific up-front about what it would cost for me to safely emulate their requirements for an assisted-living level of care at Preston Pointe. When my Mother returned from her rehabilitation, they required that my Mother have 24-hour care in order to protect their liability and that is all. I brought to their attention that my Mother did not need 24-hour care one-on-one but that was their requirement. I could not get anyone to budge on this requirement. This care was provided by an external company named Comfort Keepers. Comfort Keepers has a contract to provide the on-site care needed by residents of Preston Pointe. The Comfort Keepers person was limited in training and did not even have a CNA under their requirements. Essentially, I was paying for a glorified baby-sitter. I was livid. I had no recourse but to move my Mother to a dedicated Assisted Living Facility and out of Preston Pointe. I would advise that anyone who is looking into senior living for their elderly parents or other relatives ask some very pointed questions when a facility claims they can provide more than one level of care. Those questions should be centered around what does each level of care entail and what is the typical cost. I was blind-sided by this additional cost by a slick sales person who tried to convince me everything was do-able and that everything would be OK. He even told me that the 60-day move out notice would be waived if my Mother had to move for medical reasons or passed away. Again, the reality was that that did not happen. I also did not even get credit for the meals that my Mother did not eat while she was in rehabilitation for three weeks! Buyer beware! I would advise everyone not rush into these very emotional decisions about your loved ones. Use the experience of others to try avoiding complications for your future. Think about their entire lifespan left and the fact that you might need to move them more than once. I also advise anyone who thinks they need multiple levels of care available to pick a facility that says up front that they offer Independent Care and Assisted Living. There are very few standards that these businesses are held accountable to and so that means different things at different places.

As with most of these places, I noticed a difference in the behavior of the staff in the assisted living side versus the memory care side. On the memory care side, where the tenants need the most assistance, the staff was not as friendly and were distracted in their phones. Some didn't have patients with the tenants, and that bothered me most of all. You're dealing with people with dementia who may be experiencing sundowning or etc. They need caring and patient people working with them. Not people who will yell and get smart with them. So, with that said, I didn't select this place for my grandmother. For the astronomical price you'd have to pay here, you should expect MUCH MORE! It should be cleaner and not smell like a nursing home as well. Urine and feces odors punched me in the face when I toured the MC unit. Take care of those people!!!! If you're in search of an AL or Mc facility, I'd say to check them out yourself. Maybe things improved since I was there. Be sure to check for complaints with the state as well before placing your loved one anywhere. You'd be amazed by what kind of complaints you'll see.

They use very outdated systems for record-keeping and communication, although I was told they're updating some of this. You have to fill out a scantron for current symptoms at every check-in (no electronic check-in options). The waiting room is very small and seems to be constantly crowded. The staff at the desk aren't the friendliest, but they're professional and competent. I have had issues with the communication between the clinic and the lab, and turn-around for test results can be extremely slow. This is made worse by the outdated record-keeping and communcation systems. Unlike MyChart, test results are only posted after the provider has reviewed them. I'm being treated for PCOS (now PMOS). It's been a bit frustrating how much this office focuses on weight gain/loss. It's a symptom associated with my condition, but it shouldn't be the primary focus. If PMOS had been explained in terms of a metabolic disorder rather than simply an issue of stubborn weight gain, I would have been more keen on beginning treatment. Because I have a history of disordered eating and body dysmorphia, focusing predominately on weight can be triggering. This office would do well to update their approach to discussing weight issues. I'd also like to see providers at this clinic do a better job of caring for gender non-conforming/expansive patients. Not everyone who has PMOS is a woman! (As a side note, GLP-1 meds are almost exclusively advertised as weight loss drugs, but I'm only just learning that they have way more benefits for PMOS than just helping you to lose weight!) All of that said, I REALLY like PA Ameya Patel. My physician, Dr. Sheshadri, is pretty good but it was difficult to schedule with her and she can be slow to communicate test results etc. When I managed to get seen by her, our appointments always felt rushed and, again, very focused on weight gain rather than other symptoms. I did, however, appreciate that she seems to understand that calorie counting can be triggering for folks with a history of disordered eating. PA Patel, by contrast, always takes the time to really listen to my concerns and thoroughly explain my condition and options for treatment. I've been impressed that she remembers details from conversations we had months prior and her sensitivity to my particular needs and concerns. PA Patel was also very informed about the recent research on how to properly diagnose and treat PMOS and was prepared to explain some of the ways that insurance coverage can affect our options for treatment. Thank you, PA Patel!

She's very humble, but I I have saved the best for last because I know she's very humble, but I would be remiss not to mention Dr. Sairya. This kind of diagnosis is chronic, so there's no curing it. The fact that there is a physician of her caliber gives me great confidence that my condition will be managed so that I will have a better quality of life. I am completely grateful to this medical practice that demonstrates what healthcare should look like.

I was a patient at Shanahan Rheumatology for approximately seven years. During that time, I became…read moreincreasingly concerned about the practice's communication, care coordination, and responsiveness to patient concerns. I received conflicting information from different providers and staff members regarding my treatment plan. Over the period two physician assistants offered contradictory recommendations, a staff nurse provided guidance that conflicted with the PA's instructions. When I sought clarification, my questions were not adequately addressed, and I was unable to obtain clear, consistent guidance regarding my care. I also attempted to raise concerns through the patient portal, but those efforts proved frustrating and unproductive. In some instances, the information provided appeared inconsistent with FDA recommendations. I was never given the opportunity to discuss these concerns directly with Dr. Shanahan. In fact, after my initial visit, I never saw him again. Rather than addressing my concerns, I ultimately received a letter from Dr. Shanahan terminating the physician-patient relationship. Based on my experience, the quality of communication, continuity of care, and patient support declined significantly during my years with the practice and fell well below the standard of care I had come to expect.
