My Little Needle Tattoos - Conch piercing! The friendly person at the front desk (whose name I didn't catch, unfortunately), helped me pick out this little gold piece.

I got this pretty little conch piercing yesterday at My Little Needle Tattoos. The shop is SUPER…read moreinclusive and welcoming, which I love and feel we need more of in Plymouth. Meatloaf did my piercing, and he was friendly, informative, gentle, and really took his time. Highly recommend both him and the shop! (It's also next to Meridian, the best coffee shop in Plymouth.)

I am genuinely surprised by the overwhelming number of positive reviews Little Needle Tattoos…read morereceives, because my experience was very different. I recently got a tattoo from Bri to honor my husband, an Army combat veteran who served two tours in Iraq and died by suicide about two years ago. I wanted a sunflower with his initials and shorthand for the number of days we had together. This was not just another tattoo to me. I explained the design and its meaning in my initial email, then attended the requested consultation. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt "too cool for school." Interactions felt forced, and I felt out of place. I joke a lot, sometimes awkwardly, because humor is how I get through difficult things. I wasn't expecting anyone to understand my grief, just to be welcoming and listen. At the consultation, Bri said she'd prepare drawings and different sizes for my appointment. Two weeks later, none of those options appeared to be ready. She started drawing directly on me instead. Every artist has a process, but why require a consultation and promise preparation if that isn't what happens? My time matters too. I was also sick on appointment day; symptoms started the night before. With a 48-hour cancellation policy and a $100 cash deposit already paid, I felt pressured to go. I told Bri I was sick before we started, but didn't feel there was much concern. I found myself explaining the tattoo's meaning yet again. When I mentioned "+2K" for the days I knew my husband, Bri asked, "Is that for running?" She also compared my memorial tattoo to a strawberry tattoo she'd considered for an ex-fiancé after a breakup. I'm not diminishing anyone's relationship, but those situations are not the same. She repeatedly discouraged the number of days, and I eventually settled for just his initials. That was disappointing. At times she seemed to confuse me with another client, saying, "Oh, you're the one," only for me to correct her. Super welcoming! Much of the conversation was about her own life and Venus being retrograde. Then a break described as five or ten minutes became roughly 35. I sat alone waiting, without an update. I understand artists need breaks. A little communication would have gone a long way. **But the biggest problem?** My tattoo was supposed to be CENTERED on the back of my neck. It is noticeably off to the left, despite Bri taking a reference photo. This is permanent. My husband was left-handed, so I guess there's some irony there, but I shouldn't have to find a joke in incorrect placement. I don't expect special treatment because I'm a widow. I expect preparation, communication, respect for my time, and careful placement. I ignored my gut feeling because this tattoo meant so much to me. Instead, I left and cried in my car. I wish my experience matched the glowing reviews. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this shop, and I won't return to have the placement addressed.

I had an idea for a tattoo that involved heavy shading, so I created my artwork and started…read moresearching for a reasonably priced artist who could actually pull it off. Reasonable -- not cheap. You get what you pay for. The first shop I visited was on the high end of "reasonable," so I kept looking. My search ended the moment I walked into The Branded Barby. The owner told me everyone in the shop had the skill to handle my design, but she highly recommended Mary, a young artist she was mentoring. Her pricing was right in my range, so my last question was simple: Can she handle the shading? I got an immediate, confident "Absolutely." I booked with Mary, and she reached out about a week before the appointment asking for the artwork. I sent it right over. When I arrived on tattoo day, she was ready for me -- professional, prepared, and clearly passionate about her craft. She walked me through all the technical details and then showed me the touch‑ups she made to my design. Let me tell you... I was blown away. Her improvements elevated the artwork beyond what I imagined. I even asked her to send me her version because it was that good. Four hours later -- and yes, it hurt -- Mary finished. I was already impressed, but she wasn't satisfied until every detail met her own high standards. That level of pride and precision is rare. Her shading was cold, clean, and absolutely on point. She didn't just meet my expectations; she crushed them. I was ready to book my next tattoo before I even left the chair. Do NOT sleep on Mary. Her skill, her eye for detail, and her dedication to the craft are top‑tier. If you're looking for an artist who can handle serious shading and deliver beyond what you imagined, she's the one.

You're probably not going to get a walk in tattoo done here, but walk in to talk to or consult with an artist ahead of time to be sure. The shop itself is in a good location with a decent amount of parking, and inside it is inspiring. There are lots of plants and beautiful art. It is body-positive and woman-positive with more than one woman tattoo artist in residence. The tattoo work areas are separated with short walls and actual doors so privacy is controlled. It also allows each artist to have her own space full of the energy she wants. This part of the shop's design really adds to the experience of being worked on there. It allows the creative energy to bubble around without feeling intrusive or exposed while being worked on. It can also shift during a session - door open or closed. I have two fairly large, artist-original pieces done by Autum McCallister (Lethal Lady). Her work is magical! You can find it on Instagram or Facebook, or stop in to see her. She also does commission pieces (your design). Autum's eye for color, shape, and layout makes for truly gorgeous body art. When I have requested (small) changes to a design, she is thoughtful and takes her time to work through what will work well with the piece and fits with what I like. She'll also make some changes as she works and sees the piece come to life on your body. To top it off, she has a great sense of humor, and we have fun conversations with a lot of laughter. Though I haven't worked with any other artists at this shop, I have listened to them work and seen some of it. Stop in with your idea, and whoever you talk to will either be a good choice or tell you who the right person for your piece would be.
