I didn't feel that this visit was professional. The moment the doctor saw me, he immediately felt that he could take his white coat off and get confortbale. Then, in the middle of a pandemic, he decided to take his mask off while sitting 2 feet away from me. His reasoning was "I can't breathe in this thing". My initial introduction to Dr. Romano took place when we moved my 97 year old mother-in-law, who had a severe hearing loss, to an assisted care facility, Sunrise at George Mason, which is located near the university. Dr. Romano volunteered her services at that facility. Dr. Romano analyzed my mother-in-law's problem, provided appropriate hearing aids, and continued to support her for the remainder of her life. My mother-law considered her to be an angel; I considered her to be a most capable and compassionate audiologist. My direct experience with Dr. Romano occurred some time later. I had a condition known as otosclerosis, which affects the transmission of sound through the middle ear, and is corrected by an operation known as a stapedectomy. In my case the operation was performed twice, the first being totally successful, the second, fourteen years later, being moderately successful, requiring a detailed analysis of my hearing followed by the selection, fitting, and periodic maintenance of the selected aids. Dr. Romano performed the latter functions. I have been totally satisfied with her performance and I strongly recommend her based on my mother-law's and my experience. read more

I made an appointment with Dr. Romano to have ear impressions made for custom inner ear monitors (CIEM). I received a reminder/confirmation call the day before my appointment -- not necessary in this case, but nice to get just in case. Upon arrival I completed the required forms in approximately 3 minutes, and met Dr. Romano within 10 minutes of my arrival. Dr. Romano and her staff were very professional, efficient and informative -- all things I care about. Making the impressions took approximately 10 minutes. I paid the (very reasonable) bill on my way out the door. From walking in the door to walking out with my new custom ear impressions was professionally done in less than half an hour. Without question, if I'm ever in need of the services of an audiologist again, I wouldn't hesitate to contact Dr. Romano's office for another appointment. I recommend her highly. read more

Arlington Hearing Center is just the BEST! Suzette at the front desk is friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and great at followup. She made me feel good about my choice the minute I walked in the door and has continued to reinforce that feeling ever since. Dr. Romano is one of the finest professionals I have ever used. I have a common form of hearing loss that makes it difficult for me to hear conversation clearly-- and in a crowded busy, and noisy restaurant, it was next to impossible to hear anyone more than a foot away. I got very high end hearing aids in November of 2016, yet had more or less given up wearing them because-- they just did not get the job done. They were 'Ok' around the house, but useless in a noisy space. My problem ended when I put my problem in the hands of Dr. Romano. She reviewed my case, and provided additional explanation to me about my hearing loss. After the most comprehensive hearing test I have ever had, she made her recommendation. It seems that the hearing aids I got in 2016 had technology that was at least a 2-3 years older than that. In that short period of time, hearing aid technology made huge strides; and the latest high end hearing aids that I got as a result, are nothing short of amazing. Three times this week, I have been in busy restaurants, each more energetically noisier than the previous one. Every time, I could hear everyone at the table clearly. I missed no conversation. Perhaps even more importantly, I did not have to concentrate and strain to hear. What joy! What fun! What a relief! I feel like I got an entire section of my life back that I had given up as lost forever. After I got my hearing aids, I have been back 3 times to have them tweaked and to get a couple of accessories. Each time, both Suzette and Dr. Romano found little ways to make each visit go beyond answering my immediate question. I learned more and as a result I get more from my hearing aids. I am now listening to my audio books, when I am out walking and I have discovered that I can both hear and understand lyrics in songs. What pure bliss. Several years ago, my sister encouraged me to get hearing aids. She told me about an article that she read that said that hearing loss requires the brain to do extra work to make up for the loss. Once the hearing loss is corrected, cognitive tasks are easier and learning is faster. I agree. I feel smarter and more alert now. One last thing-- after I got my hearing aids, Dr. Romano did an additional hearing test and showed me graphically the dramatic improvement resulting from my hearing aids. I was amazed. Every frequency, except the very highest ones were again back in the normal range. My experience every day proves it. A day hasn't gone by when I have not had another discovery of how hearing better makes my life better. Your choice of professionals does make a difference and I am certain that Dr. Romano and Suzette provided the difference between a good experience and a great one. Use them! I visited Dr. Romano's office to get hearing aids when I was only 27 years old. It was much earlier than I ever dreamed of needing hearing aids, and I was uncomfortable with the idea. Dr. Romano and her staff helped me understand my needs and put my mind at ease about the transition. What a difference the hearing aids have made! So about 2 weeks after my review, I got a phone call stating that Arlington Hearing Center was sending my claim into Cigna and I should see an EOB come through their system. Sure enough, 4 months after my appointment where I was told my insurance didn't cover the test, my insurance PAID for the test and my personal balance was $4.52 (The refund just posted to my account yesterday). I spoke to Suzette and her only explanation was that they should've done better... I can only speak from my experience and it wasn't a pleasant one and frankly it took a yelp review to be resolved. Wonderful and caring indeed. The reason I give four star is because they don't take health insurance which is okay, office visit is free during hearing aids warranty so the only thing I need to pay for is the hearing test which happens every year or two. Dr. Romano and the entire staff of Sonus Arlington could not be more helpful and co-operative. My insurance company had suggested another organization which sold only it's own brand I turned down this suggestion wanting to work with someone with multiple brands and no obvious direct links in order to have a wider range of solutions, Sonus provided this. I now have my new aids which work very well although there was an issue that popped up in the first week. I was asked to come in to the office at which time the staff and Dr. Romano took care of me as if I was going to be the most important person they were to see that day. I have been a sonus customer for about 3 years. Dr. Romano is the BEST! She really knows how to tune my hearing aids to get the best sound. When I tell her whats not working for me she re-tunes my aids and fixes the sound to work better. She even told me how to get the most out of them (no secret really, just wear them all the time) which I didnt realize would make them work better - actually it's a brain thing. Ask her to explain... I highly recommend her. And btw, I really like my phonak aids. They can be tuned in many ways and i can control the volumn. They're great. CR read more

I've been wearing hearing aids for 29 years so I've dealt with a lot of hearing aid dealers/audiologists. Excellent service and everyone is so nice there. I was given their info by my insurance company and working with them was a breeze. They accepted my insurance and gave me detailed receipts. A bit high priced as one of my hearing aids the higher quality one was around $3600, but I was able to get two hearing aids for $5300 and only paid $300 out of pocket after my insurance paid the rest. I know another poster mentioned they don't take insurance, but they do, perhaps they just don't take her specific plan. I had a tough fit in one ear and Sonus worked with me and Siemens to try to work something out, which meant returning 3 for mold fittings but they kept trying to make it work for me, even taking pictures to send to Siemens, which was awesome of them. read more

I have worn a hearing aid for 25 years. I always dreaded getting a new aid fitted and adjusted to my needs. This is not the case since I became a patient of Dr. Romano. She asks great questions during the adjustments and zeroes in on the settings needed. I have never felt frustrated or like I was taking too much time like I experienced with other providers. I cannot express how grateful I am for having Dr. Romano's office so convenient from the metro! Don't ever relocate. Not only does the convenience of the office deserve a 5-star, but also their service. For some odd reasons, I've been making calls to see if they could get me in at the last minute. Miriam (sp?) has been such an accommodating, positive, and kind person to answering my frantic phone calls by finding ways to get me in at the last minute, especially with my random hearing aids issues lately. Importantly, Dr. Romano has ALWAYS been extremely understanding and helpful with the care and check of my hearing aids. I highly recommend Arlington Hearing Center. Dr. Romano was fantastic and her staff are all professional, friendly, and helpful. I was diagnosed with mild hearing loss and tinnitus over a year ago at another audiologist in DC. They told me to try iPhone apps which did not help and there was always a wait of about a month to get an appointment. I switched to Dr. Romano and we tried hearing aids right away. My tinnitus was really becoming a problem in my life. I know doctors can't pinpoint a cause and hearing aids do not help everyone. But, I am very happy to say that the hearing aids made my tinnitus almost non existent within about a day. My aids include a tinnitus master, which I rarely use because I rarely have the ringing anymore. I do still experience tinnitus- especially when I'm overstressed, but 90% of the time it's gone. I can't thank Dr. Romano enough! And after I got my aids, she's always accommodating and has been great making adjustments to get them perfect. read more

The hearing care doctors who I met with have been consistently professional and helpful over multiple visits. They answered many questions. They spent quite a bit of time carefully testing my hearing and immediately addressed any concerns that were raised. The medical staff are sensitive and responsive to the patient's auditory and other needs. For example, on my first visit, Dr. Ramano immediately diagnosed the issue and addressed it in an effective, efficient, and diplomatic manner. She also recommended a positively impactful, low cost course of treatment for care after the appointment. Overall, I was very happy with the medical treatment and advice received. All interactions with their staff have been consistently courteous. In particular, their administrative staff have been helpful about checking on medical insurance coverage for appointments and procedures. They have helped independently confirm information about co-pays, pre-approvals needed, and the types of appointments and procedures covered by insurance, prior to making or attending the appointment. The staff have always been very friendly and timely in their responses. I have personally recommended Sonus to friends and family. read more
