Pepper Palace - It is so good it eats itself! (Joke aside that was me)

Pepper Palace

I was actually quite happy to see this Pepper Palace at Westfield Mall in Brandon. I don't go the…read moremall very often but I wanted to find a gift for hubby. A man who has everything and never wants gifts. How do you shop for a guy like that? Well, I finally found a shop that has something that he loves, and that's hot sauce. So, my first visit was more about Nashville hot chicken memories. I looked around for a wing sauce that I was hoping would meet his approval. I got the Nashville Hot & Spicy Chicken Sauce because it looked amazing. I didn't have my glasses on to see that it was medium heat. All I can say is that it wasn't that hot. Not even as hot as the one you get in Nashville. I'd say it tasted more like Frank's RedHot Wing Sauce. Maybe a step above it because it includes habanero peppers but it just wasn't that hot. He liked it, but it's not worth paying the extra money when you can get a similar version at the grocery store for less. I decided to go back after researching online and reading customer reviews. Their website provides some good information. I needed something that wasn't just extra hot, but also had a good mix of pepper flavors. I decided on Ghost of the Opry and Tr3s Diablos. This store didn't have Ghost of the Opry but I was told Ghost in the Darkness is the same hot sauce. They are just marketed differently for regions outside of Nashville. Well, I finally found one that hubby would want me to buy again. He really liked Ghost in the Darkness. This one has a mixture of ghost pepper and peri peri pepper that as the description says, "Haunts your taste buds." What he liked was that it has a little of a barbeque sauce flavor. He thinks it because of the red wine vinegar ingredient. He's not quite sure but he was definitely interested in how it was made. He also liked the Tr3s Diablos which is the most popular hot sauce judging by the 41 reviews. It has a mixture of habanero, ghost and scorpion peppers which makes it perfect for Mexican food. He's just more intrigued with Ghost in the Darkness. Oh, and both sauces are made in their manufacturing company in Sevierville, TN. This location has most of what they have on the website. They have rubs, sauces, pickled veggies, seasonings, salsa, relishes, and everything from Mild to X-Hot heat levels. The store associate was very helpful and had many suggestions. I want to go back and get some of the pickled veggies that were unique such as green beans, okra, mushrooms, and brussels sprouts. I think they also have locations at the outlet malls in Ellenton and Lutz. All I can say is that I'm happy that they opened up a store in Brandon.

I honestly didn't think i would go in, but i chose right. I always loose to my curiosity. My HOT tolerance isn't godly. In the hot scale i stay in jalapeño. No way higher than that. I had the wonderful blessing of meeting a young delightful lady by the name of Phoenix. She gave me the tour of the products, took me isle by isle and gave me an in depth detail of everything. Favorite flavors n her own choices. Even gave me free tasting samples. And ohhhhhh boy! I found the layout of the store very organized and cleaned to the T! Went over the merchandise. Phenomenal selection of hot to death by spice selections. They even got their version of the hottest hot sauce! Comes in a tiny black bottle covered in warnings. Ms Phoenix explained that you could use a drop of it n cook a whole huge batch of chili n that be still overwhelming. Im pretty sure I would've self combusted if i tried it lol behind the counter they had a mini fridge with their hottest horse radish to. I gotta admit i was tempted but the regular stuff makes me go into a non stop sneeze fest! After the nice little tiny tour I chatted the young lady up. She was charming n playful i gotta admit i just wanted an excuse to prolong my visit. I did buy; the coffee hot rub. It was just perfect for my pallet! Well balanced, nice sweet n salty n the final notes of coffee. I can't wait to use it on my 12 hour slow smoked ribs!, got a jalapeño pepper raspberry jelly. Like oh my gawd! It so freaking delicious! Great for toast n roast beef but i will use mine to infuse it with my homemade whisky sauce n make nice jerky or smoked wings. It is very well balanced. More on the sweets notes ending in the light burn i like. They have them in way hotter versions to. Also got the pickled Brussel sprouts! Like holy crap! Im a fan of any prep style of this vegetable. I did not expect it to be this freaking delicious! Sweet n tangy. No overwhelming vinegar, the slow cured bell peppers n the light notes of the other spices upgraded the taste. The sauce inside it so freaking perfect! I'd buy the sauce by the gallon if they had it. But how were the Brussel sprouts! I gotta say i was hella impressed! Crunchy not soggy. Crisp in every byte! Perfect for dicing n making a nice tapas medley of rich cheeses n aged meats. Or eat as is! I finished off by trying some of the jerky they had there. Went with the ipa beer flavor beef one. Although a bit pricey but I'm always game to try anything at least once! The beer is hidden under the sweet notes. Beef is very tender n sliced up in long strips. But just there when u give up on the beer? It creeps up outa the storm of beautiful jerky notes, it a delightful taste run. Alas i ate fuck outa it. Lol i will be back to try their other stuff in the future. I enjoyed the visit n wonderful staff. I may venture into the horse radish n "exotic" isles on my next visit. I do also want to try the mocha n maybe buy the bloody mary mix, i heavily regret not buying it. P_P I seriously recommend this business. Come on down n get a wonderful burn.

This is a great store for your herbal needs…read more I first came to Modern Herbal Apothecary for a Yelp Elite event, and at that event, I was able to taste two of the teas that MHA blends. I bought one (the FrootLoops tea) for my family, and my kids loved it so much, that I had to return to buy more tea! This time, I bought both the FrootLoop tea and also the sorrel tea. Both are absolutely delicious, despite being all natural and healthy. MHA also has non-tea items including a range of honeys. Lyani is a doula and herbalist, and she has many herbs, creams, and soaps that are good for the pregnant and breastfeeding mama. (I also bought a copper tongue scraper as a gift! Love it!) I hear that they will soon open an area for enjoying the teas on site, and I look forward to that. Plenty of parking in the private lot, and some street parking too. Prices are very reasonable for the high quality, (often) locally-sourced items they offer. And service is positively charming.

The item I bought was 125% more expensive than the Florida-based online retailer I usually purchase from, and 29% more expensive than buying from the local Vitamin Shoppe.
