Their basis for denying service was arbitrary in a Kafka-esque tour-de-force of circular reasoning. In fact, if I consider USA's work in the context of a surrealistic performance art piece, it is indeed provocative and ambitious. However, they are my elderly father's long-term care insurance provider. The company he paid a lot of money to with some comfort they would be there when he needed them, has failed us. Here's what the Insurance Commissioner had to say about them when I complained: "The policy is vague, and these terms are not defined in the policy. The company appears to be relying on their own definition of "extended care" and their own determination of when care began. " The company seems to be on some sort of downswing, so I guess you are unlikely to encounter them as an option, but I'd be very careful if you do. The experience has really colored my opinion of long-term care insurance providers. I'd recommend saving your money and hoping for the best in your time of need.

Right now I have had the health care providers fax the paper work 3 times and the lady at United says she hasn't received it. They take their time approving the claim and then it exceeds the window of when the benefits would be paid. We have filed 3 claims for healthcare for my dad and they haven't paid. The ironic part is my dad has been in the same condition for 5 years. When this company was owned by the other insurance company the claims were all handled quickly and professionally. I think it a scam, or they are going broke so they can't make their payments.

Sam Flaherty is wonderful. He met with us after my husband got off of work. He educated us with regards to what financial planners do, and how to research credentials. He talked to us about what typically happens when people inherit and shared a couple anecdotes illuminating pitfalls. He is everything I wanted in a financial advisor. He had excellent comprehension of what our current situation is, and where we would like to be. He had no judgements -- as he said, our money is not emotional to him, so he doesn't care if our dream is to own race horses or sell trinkets on the internet or to begin the great american novel. He simply wants to make sure we're in a position to do it. We ended up moving out of state, so it didn't make sense to go with him. But I think of him fondly and often and I cannot recommend him highly enough.
