I came this place many years ago for cupping. At that time, they charged $25. Since so many years ago, I came back yesterday with friend for cupping and only $5 increased. It's a very good deal. The front desk guy is so nice and welcoming. The person who is assisting me. Her name is Tracy. She is super friendly and very helpful. My friend and I are definitely willing to come back for body massage and cupping. Yeah!!!! :) read more

This place was phenomenal, and I consider myself a massage connoisseur. I went with my best friend. I had David and he was perfect. Great amount of pressure. Strong, but not the kind where you feel like you are grimacing! I have a lot of tension so I do need firm. He was focused the entire time. He was professional and I really appreciated the hot towels! It is no frills, but clean and my best friend had the owner, Linda. She raved about her as well. Linda was lovely when I called to make the appointments. She was not pushy at all. I actually heard about the place when I was in line at a place on Fillmore and the lady talked about how great the place was (that you can ask for anyone) and they really got into her shoulders. Very affordable and I will be purchasing the package. I didn't have any weird experience re: the tips. I tipped on the full price even though I received a discount, and bc David was so great I tipped greater than 20%. read more

I've been to this place before multiple times and the massage is generally quite good here. No complaints. The service, on the other hand, was usually average at best. They have daily promotions for each day of the week. The only one I was interested in was the Monday which was $10 off their usual rate of 30min body/30min foot massage for a total of $65 (regular is $75). I was unable to get there Monday, however, on Monday night I went on their website and was able to book the same promo price for Tuesday at 11am instead (see attached screenshot). Here's where the fun part started. They called me around 10am and notified me that 11am is not happening and if I can get there at 11:30am instead. That was throwing my scheduling a bit so I offered to split the difference at 11:15am. They agreed. Then called me in about an hour and asked for 12pm instead. That was interfering with my plans so I offered 2:30pm which was finally accepted. At 2:30pm I show up and the front desk refuses to honor the price in the email saying that's a Monday-only price. When I told them "if that's the case why was I able to book for Tuesday?" I got something along the line of "we don't have any control over our own website". That's just funny. After trying to negotiate to see if we can come to some sort of a middle ground it became painfully obvious that they simply don't care about anything at all other than the final price as they outright refused any other option. So I left the place. They clearly prefer making nothing over something so they must be rich enough to not need my money anyway. Before you say "all this over $10?" - no, it was over the principal and truth in advertisement. They need to fix their website and stop deceiving customers. read more

Healing Shiatsu - screenshot proof of my appointment for today 4/16 - Massage Near Me - San Francisco, California

The massage was not bad, but I did not like was that they demanded more tip at the end of the service. They said requested at least a 20% tip, which is understandable if you're an establishment like Burke Williams. But to be a small hole in the wall and expect customers to give that level of gratuity without the ambiance is just not appropriate. Also I had the one hour massage and added on the cupping (which is a 10 minute service), but instead of it being an hour and ten minutes, it was still one hour total. They also had me pay for the massage beforehand which is unusual. Off putting business practices and won't be back. read more

Good massage. BUT, they keep forcing me to tip more!! My service was $150 and they want $40 tip. I usually give $20 and if everything's exceptionally good, $30. I have been to various massage places in SF and other cities and have never experienced this before. This tip thing ruined my entire experience. Now I'm feeling even more stressed and irritated than before the massage. I will not come back read more

This massage and wellness center is in one of the best neighborhoods in San Francisco. It really is the perfect and most calm place to get a massage. The receptionist was great, she called me to set up my appointment and was very welcoming when I came in. The massage was the most refreshing I've had in a long time. I asked for deep tissue and it was the perfect pressure. I also got additional cupping and it made me feel amazing. Would definitely go back! read more

I decided to try this place and loved it! David was very good, the perfect amount of pressure (strong, but not too strong). I love that the lady at the front desk asked me what pressure I wanted (soft medium or firm). I walked in very stiff and sore everywhere and walked out feeling like a marshmallow. David brought me a cup of water afterwards which was a nice touch. The prices are great. It is not fancy, is but very clean and relaxing with nice music playing softly in the background. I can't wait to go back. read more

This place isn't fancy at all, but you will get one of the best massages of your life for a reasonable price. My girlfriend also raves about the cupping. read more

Just got my first massage here, was very happy with the service that was provided. I didn't have any tipping issues, so maybe ownership corrected issues from prior complaints. The quality of the massage was better than any place i've have been to at this price point. She used just the right amount of strong pressure, and found all the knots in my shoulders and back. The place is nothing fancy, but very clean and pleasant, and each room is totally private. The only issue you will have, is deciding what to do afterwards. Purple Kow Boba, Balboa Theatre/popcorn, Shanghai Dumplings, Gus Tackle Shop, Mr. Banh Mi, Butterlove Pastries, flower shop, Chinese, Japanese, coffee, bagels, all within a block! 1 Star for a great massage 1 Star for convenient location 1 Star for decent price 1 Star for easy to use booking system, all online 1 Star for the nice lady at the front desk 5 stars total. I will be back! read more

New to the area and was looking for a new spot as I get massages regularly, and chose Healing Shiatsu based on good reviews, price, and location. It was easy to make an appointment and check-in was friendly, they offered my partner and I a deal for a couples massage upon arrival. We were given a room and once we were on the table told that only 1 masseuse was available so I started first and my partner started about 5 minutes later, not a big deal. I am someone who likes a strong, deep tissue massage so I requested firm pressure. What I got was the most aggressive massage I have ever had, it was much more painful than strong or deep tissue and hard in all the wrong places (like literally punching my feet, digging elbows into bones). I requested softer pressure multiple times (something I've never had to do before) and left in much more pain and discomfort than I came in with. If I hadn't been in a room with my partner I would have requested the massage stop early. I woke up the next day incredibly sore and slightly bruised. Also important to note their tipping guide is not a guide, it's a requirement. I am a consistent 20% tipper across service industries, went to leave a 15% tip, which felt decent given my experience, and was told I needed to leave at least 20%. read more

Fake reviews. Tip Hustling. Rude and unprofessional behavior. This business should be reported to the better business bureau. Tired of businesses scamming and demanding cash payment for subpar health standards. This place is in need of a major deep clean. First they ask you to tip up front. Tipping isn't mandatory in the US in most places so The fact they ask you to do it before the services is not what I'd call good customer service. read more

Healing Shiatsu provided a great massage for a great price! I work in mental health, so I have a lot of stress and not a lot of money. The person at the desk was friendly and helpful, and the massage I received was thorough and adjusted to the pressure I needed. I was grateful to be able to offer a tip at the end as a thank-you for all of the hard work and care my body received. This is a long-standing local business and I'm delighted to have discovered them. I'm confused by all of these negative reviews re: tips - a 20% tip on a 1 hour massage is only $16.00 (the price of a glass of wine or a sandwich in SF) and that money was well-earned. My body got a thorough and much-needed relief. read more

Absolutely love this place!!! My partner and I come in monthly/bi-monthly for couples massage and we adore the women here. Huge shout out to Linda and Yoyo - these two are AMAZING healers and know exactly how to work your body to rid all stress/tension! Simple non frou-frou spa that's totally won us over. They're excellent at what they do and make you feel right at home. They also work so damn hard and are wearing 1-2 masks (cloth mask + face shield) while they work on you so make sure you tip well because they 100% deserve it! If you need a pick me up, do yourself a favor and book a massage, maybe even throw in a foot massage too - you'll walk out like a new person!! read more

I work in construction so my back and shoulders are regularly extremely tight. I've gone here every other week for a few months and they provide a consistent strong massage that gets the knots out for me. They are skilled and never leave me injured like other places while still getting deep pressure. Minus 1 star because they only massage you face down and their massage tables aren't the most comfortable. read more

Well, the massages are good. So I'll give one star for that. Masseuse was nice, inviting, good deep tissue but always with some interruptions. The reason why I am giving one star is administration and customer service and I see the previous recent reviews I am not the only one that encountered this. I always gave 18-19% tip but they still keep HUSTLING customers for 20% minimum tip.. After I gave like $13 tip, they hustled for $1 more dollar, I said NO MORE. This is ridiculous. This place should know there is NO MANDATORY TIPS and it is HIGHLY ILLEGAL. The massage is relaxing but after you get out of there being hustled like that, all your stress COMES BACK. I stopped going. Do yourself a favor and add automatic 20% tip to the massage which is $70, doesn't matter if you are a member or not. So they should just advertise massages as $85 no tip, maybe it could work. The hustling after massage just ruined every massage I had. They will slowly start losing customers and I know why.. read more

It was a good experience. Greeted by a young girl at the front desk. She spoke perfect English. She collected payment but said I can tip after the massage. She ushered me to a room and asked if I want medium or deep pressure and where my problem area was. A few minutes later the masseuse came in. I feel like you don't need to point out problem areas to really great massage therapist because they can feel the muscle spasms. That was not the case here but it was still a good massage and I felt noticeably better. I tipped $20 and the lady was super happy. I understand why some people complain about pressure for tipping but how much would you tip at a spa that you pay $120/hr for a massage? I know, I know, you get fancy towels at the spa! But you already got the savings by paying about half that price at a place like this. Ask yourself, are the massage therapist at the spas working any harder than the people here? I'm not saying I'm a good person for giving a generous tip, I'm just saying that you're a bad person if you don't. read more

Healing Shiatsu - Simple massage table. Don't expect frills and you'll be just fine. - Massage Near Me - San Francisco, California

I went for an hour long massage today. They asked me for payment upon entry, I asked if I could tip after the massage and he said that's ok. I left 20% in the end because I read about the issues people have experienced. That being said... the massage was awfully painful. I initially said I want medium to firm pressure but asked the masseuse to use less, she said "your muscles are so tight, hahaha" and let up for a bit and then went back to very painful elbows in my back, even though I was audibly in pain. She got closer to my spine than any other masseuse has which made me a little worried. But now its hours later and I'm SOOOOO sore. I feel like I got beaten up. A portion under my neck and in between my shoulders is visibly swollen and I'm having a hard time turning my neck. My whole back is in pain and feels injured to the point that I'm almost in tears (and I have a pretty high tolerance for pain). This is totally not ok. I very much regret coming here. read more

This place is top notch! It's a hidden gem as another person suggested. I've had massages from Cindy and Yoyo and both were fantastic. Good pressure, has great instincts and very professional. Linda at the front desk is lovely too! I've gone here a number of times always with great experiences. Great neighborhood spot. Thank you! read more

Let's begin with the fact that we were required to pay for our massage in full up front. Before we even were allowed to enter the massage room! I've never heard of this ever. The woman who did my massage was very rough and didn't actually massage me. It was just pushing on my skin. Like someone nudging you. Then when we finished and we wanted to leave, considering we already paid the bill, they stopped us and asked for tip and we gave $10 To each masseuse but they told us it was not enough considering the service. I told them we didn't have other cash and yet they kept pushing for us to give more tip and even said we could do zelle or Venmo. They are trying to tip hustle. Which is astonishing! You are not entitled to tip! It is at the payers discretion if they want to tip and it is based on what they felt the quality was worth. The quality wasn't worth a tip nor was the service. And to believe you are entitled to an extra tip is just beyond me. Would not recommend this place at all. In bad business fashion, I wish yelp would allow me to give 0 stars. But alas, I am left giving one. read more

"Ladie Wednesday" 1 hour body massage $45 cash ($48 credit card, $55 otherwise). Bring cash for tip. They prefer 20% or a minimum of $10 cash per person. I only had $9 left and they didn't seem too happy about that. Yoyo was my masseuse. She was consistent and equal on both side. However I did need to tell her to lighten up on my neck. My friend ended up getting allergies after leaving the room. The room is carpeted. The room is nice and warm. Parking is mostly metered. Call to make an appointment in advance. read more

Went here my first time for a 75 minute session. I've had roughly over 200 massages in my lifetime and this one felt almost like work. I felt the same walking out as I did walking in. The music selection is somewhere close to Vivaldi's 'summer' - not very relaxing and very fast paced. The work on both sides of my body was uneven with noticeable differences in pressure. I could hear phone alarms going off, people having loud conversations throughout my service, and had a paper towel for my face shield. I would've given them 3 stars but when I was checking out, the receptionist criticized my tip and was obviously unhappy that I wasn't giving an above standard 20% for a mediocre experience. read more

My review from years ago got flagged and removed for an unknown reason when I clearly described my massage wasn't good in addition to payment here. But why I give it 0/5 stars if I could is they force a high percentage tip on you even if your massage is terrible. read more

Great massage. You will be asked what kind of pressure you want for your massage, so make sure you let them know exactly what you can handle so that you get a nice comfortable massage. I didn't appreciate the TIP HUSTLING. The massage was $75 / hour. Paid in cash, and gave $10 in tip. The masseuse wanted at least $15, and said that most people leave $25. I said that $10 in cash is a fair tip. Ruined my experience there. Owners, please pay your workers a living wage. Raise your prices if there's no other way, because tip hustling is quite awkward. read more

I've been here twice now and have done both the cupping and regular massage. The massage both times were good and felt like the time flew by. However this is were the business goes downhill and leaves a sour taste in the customers mouth. After tipping on my 2nd visit I was stopped and told it was minimum 20% like it was mandatory. That alone ruined the entire experience. Convenient location but will not be returning. Be ready to tip at least 20% or get ready to feel hostage before leaving. read more

I've been there this weekend, it was my first time over there. I wanted to try this place before it was close to my home. The place looked a bit creepy but it was clean and smelled okey so I was like okey let's do this. I did a massage - which was good, not the best, but also not bad. I send the tip on Venmo and I left. The person in the front desk waved at me and told me to leave a bigger tip. I was speechless. I thought that tip was optional and it was a way of showing gratitude. I left $10 tip and this guy told me to leave at least $20!! excuse me!!! this was so rude, I can't even wrap my mind around it. I'm from Europe and tip culture here is crazy for me, but telling me to leave a bigger tip because $10 is not enough? and not even thank you? i wont be coming back. this was just too much read more

Problem: Tip Hustling This place has added a sign requesting you tip "$15-$20 per hourIN ADDITION to the fee. This is new. I've been coming here for 2 years. Desk lady has always been asking me to leave a tip. I always politely tell her I left it in the room. I tip well if service is good btw. Tips are and should be between the service provider and the client. "Hustling Tips" just tells me the owner doesn't pay well. Most places give either 70:30 to 60:40 in favor of the masseuse. After all, they do all the work including laundry. At $90 for 90 minutes $54-$63 for the masseuse + tips, if any. Making tips obligatory just de-personalizes the relationship and alienated customers. There will always be some people who tip low or not at all. They are marginal customers who will go elsewhere if prices rise. The establishment risks losing these customers permanently AS WELL AS THOSE WHO TIP WELL, as we don't think it should be obligatory. read more

I think I've left a previous review but I felt the need to reiterate what a hidden gem this place is! No frills but I just experienced what I consider one of the best massages ever! I wanted a soft massage but the masseuse didn't listen to me and "claimed that my muscles are very hard" as an excuse so that they don't need to cater to my needs to provide a good experience to help me feel good and relaxed. After the massage my back is in pain and is sore, still in pain the next day. I feel like they did more damage than good and by the time I reach the front desk the lady there demanded more tips . I've never heard of 20% tips being a mandatory thing and never had to experience such terrible customer service . Not only was the front desk unprofessional, demanding, and scamming the overall experience left me more traumatized than healed. I will not be returning and will not recommend this place for a massage when there are better alternatives out there with better service. read more

No frills, get fixed, great experienced masseuse. Tracy was fantastic. When it comes to massages, I need the hard stuff. So I went through a phase where I went to male Chinese masseuses. After a while, I started to feel self conscious. They were forceful, but there is a line that Chinese masseuses - whether female or male - are not aware of. What I mean is that either whether they are male or female, it rather seems like they are humping you. It's hard to relax when you're not sure if the guy is really just trying to get out that kink or trying to get kinky. Especially when they really get into those glutes. I am very happy to find Successful Shiastsu (What a Chinese name! :P What would make it more Chinese is Successful Shiastsu 888) I've been here a few times now and the all the masseuses have been women and f'ing kick it. They go over those tense spots over and over and over.. and not lightly either. Last time I was here she put her whole body weight on my shoulders with that shiastsu knead over and over and over. It was this painful relaxation and I dozed into a state of losing consciousness, but not quite completely... That tension not quite melting away, but beaten away, which is really the only way to do it with me! These women will get on top of you, take the blanket all off completely, pushing their elbows into your glutes. To say they are handsy is an understatement. But at least they are women. So if they need to jam their fist into my butt, so be it. I feel like the vigor in which they do their work means they are serious. And they know they are good at what they do and they really want to get that knot out! I live kinda far from here, but it's the best place in the city I've found so far, especially for the price. Totally worth it. Come in for ladies day Tuesday and Wednesday - $43! read more

Decent price and good experience! As you'd expect, the place isn't fancy but it is clean and the bed is comfortable. The walls are a tad thin but the voices are pretty faint. Definitely a no-frills place but I would recommend Kevin. His pressure was great and he checked in with me midway to see how I was doing. I didn't have any issues with communication during the massage or at the front. Also, bring cash - it's cheaper if you do. read more
