But then the actual service happened... and wow! Andrea (or at least that's the name I was given) was an absolute NIGHTMARE a disappointment. In fact these are the kind of massages my husband gives and then I tell him to stop because it's not even worth it. I have no words for how ANGRY I was. My blood - BOILING, and the only reason I didn't get up and leave was that my mom and daughter were actually having a great time. And I didn't want to ruin my mom's mood, so I sucked it up and stayed. I asked her to increase the pressure, thinking maybe it would get better--NOPE. And the thing that really pushed me over the edge? She stopped. Like, completely stopped moving for 20 seconds--and that's just the the longest time I counted. It happened multiple times, but that when I hit 20 seconds that's the moment I lost it internally. BLINDFOLD's OFF! Instead of being relaxed, I ended up playing games on my phone just to keep from saying something. My phone was more relaxing, the music playing in the room was more relaxing. I was supposed to be drifting off, but instead, I had to take deep breaths to calm myself down. Never again. Also, this place also goes by lucky feet & body massage. Oh and yes I paid for all 3 services and I was adamant that she does not get any tip whatsoever. I left $20 each for the other attendants.

This is a WARNING to future customers about the highly deceptive pricing practices at this…read moreestablishment. I visited as a walk-in, intending to receive a standard foot massage at the general price point I am familiar with, which is often reflected by their widely advertised Groupon rate. The total cost I was asked to pay was nearly DOUBLE the lowest advertised rate. When I inquired about the significant price discrepancy, the employee offered two questionable and misleading explanations that felt like a deliberate bait-and-switch tactic: False Service Distinction: I was told that the foot massage I requested was somehow "different" from the one advertised at the lower rate, despite the service description being vague and matching general expectations. False Redemption Rules: I was then falsely told that the Groupon rate was not available for "walk-ins" and that I would have to schedule an appointment at least two weeks in advance. Based on prior experience using similar services, this is a clear fabrication intended to force customers into paying the much higher, non-discounted rate. I felt pressured and misled into the transaction, ultimately paying an inflated price. An honest business does not employ intentional dishonesty regarding simple walk-in pricing and appointment rules. While the massage itself was performed, the overall experience was completely ruined by the frustration and sense of being financially exploited. I strongly advise checking all prices and terms (in writing) before you sit down, and be prepared to leave if they attempt to pull this bait-and-switch on you. Make sure you use Groupon before.

Rough, heavy "Swedish massage" resulting in broken capillaries and inflammed, sore skin. Sketchy…read moretipping and payment, with extra fees for using a credit card. Hopefully our experience gives others an idea of what to expect. I wish I had read the other Yelp Reviews before we went to Zen Spa. Other people have experienced the same roughness in their massages, and the same coerciveness with tipping and payment. Swedish Massage I booked a massage for my 20+ old son. He is an athlete and has had many massages at other spas, including deep issue/sports massage. When we arrived, the "therapist" suggested a 90-minute session for $110. For today, my son did not want a deep tissue massage so I asked her to confirm that this session would be Swedish and he could tell her to make the pressure as light as he wanted. She confirmed yes. Payment and 30% (or higher) "Suggested Tipping" When it was time to pay, she asked me to hand her my credit card, and then as she initiated the payment, she asked how much I wanted to tip. Since it was a $110 session and I customarily tip 20%, I said "$22". However, she did not just add $22. She pointed to a printed sign that listed "Suggested Tips for a $110 session" and the smallest suggested tip was $30. This is a 27% tip, far above customary. In all other businesses I've dealt with, I am the one to tap my credit card, and I can privately enter whatever amount of tip that I choose. But at Zen Spa, the therapist held my credit card hostage while asking me to tell her how much I wanted to tip, as if it was a set amount obligation and not the client's choice to show appreciation for good service. I was taken aback by how presumptuous she was, but decided that I would just tip the 27% and be done with it. The payment should have been $110 for the service plus $30 for the tip, for a total of $140. However, the receipt total said $142. I pointed to the sign that said the 90-minute Swedish massage was $110, so the total should have been $140. She kept insisting that her total was correct, and only after I kept asking did she point to a different sign that said that there was a $2.00 fee for using a credit card. My guess is that they were passing on the credit card companies' fees to the client, but they didn't want to change the published price list, so they created a smaller sign that said that there would be a $2.00 extra fee. Really deceptive. Rough Massage and Broken Capillaries After we left, I asked my son how it went. He said it was a terrible experience. We understand that there may be bruising or redness, but he has never had that with deep tissue massages at other places. But at Zen Spa, with a supposedly "Swedish massage," the woman was so rough with her hands and a tool -- perhaps a massage roller -- that he had to tell her to lighten up. The result of all the roughness is a back full of broken capillaries and inflamed skin (see photos attached). This is not normal. Less important, and rather funny, was that the spa room smelled like garlic. This place was definitely not peaceful and zen. One positive thing I can say about the spa is that they take precautionary safety measures because of the neighborhood. Another therapist/owner said that they lock the doors to the building when they are in sessions because "there are lot of bad boys" in the area.

Everything was perfect until it came time to pay. The lady who did my message did an outstanding job. I got a 90 minute massage for $115.00. When I got to the front to pay the lady who did my massage was standing next to me & some other employee. Not sure if she was the manager but she was the one closing out the service. When it came time to pay she asked me if I would be leaving the tip on the card or cash. I told her how much gratuity I was leaving & she stated "90 minute massage which was great you leave more money $30" and pointed to the suggested tip amount on the wall. I WAS SOOOOO LIVID! I clearly stated "You can't tell me what to leave, you don't know people's situation ... and you should be grateful to even receive ANYTHING". She laughed and said "I gave you great massage $30 tip." I told her how unprofessional she is & the fact that she had the audacity to tell me what I NEED to leave as a tip is outrageous. She & the lady continued to speak to each other making sure I didn't know what was being said. I paid for my service & as I am walking out the door the lady who did my massage walked out the door behind me and was saying things in a language I do not understand. Overall, I was appalled by the whole situation & I will not be going back. Leaving a tip is NOT demanded & not included in the service. Just be thankful for even receiving something & don't harass someone for MORE money.
