Headz really ain't ready. This is by far one of the worst haircuts I ever got, the name is not a metaphor, it's actually quite literal. I booked an appointment with Louie live, he wasn't even in the shop. I ended up speaking to the manager and I went off the strength that his title possibly gave him credibility, no. He then tells me the guy i booked is the owner and only cuts VIP clients. Why is he available to book? A lot of things made no sense but the one thing that made the most sense is the shops name. I'd give you the name of my barber and where to visit but I'd be doing myself a disservice. Keep shopping, don't go here. read more

I'm in town for my brother's graduation and needed my beard trimmed badly so I went to this spot 2 blocks away from where I was staying. I went around 11:30am on a Thursday so it was pretty empty inside but there were some barbers available to help me. By the way the inside really nice! The lighting around the mirrors and the chairs were hella comfy. Anyways, Sebastian called me over to his seat and my first question was do they accept cards, he told me no and told me the beauty salon next door had an ATM so I went there and got cash. When I came back I told him I wanted my beard trimmed and lined up nicely. When I tell you this man went to WORK on my face this man really took his time and made sure I was going to leave there looking good! He used the clippers to cut the beard down and line me up and thennnn he pulled out the facial cream and hot towel over my face. I'm not gonna lie, I lowkey had a panic attack when the towel covered my nose but I survived. After a few minutes with the hot towel he came back lifted it up and used a razor to give me that nice crisp lineup. Although I was in a rush to get to this graduation I didnt want to rush him because he was clearly doing his best to make me look good. After he was done he gave me a ticket to bring to the cashier where I paid. Also I'm mad at myself for not using the 25% off 1st haircut coupon that popped up when I checked in. I was in such a rush I forgot to mention it but it was worth every penny. read more

UPDATE: After a bad first experience, the owner contacted me and cut my hair personally. He was very professional and did a great job. I can tell they care about their customers so I changed my rating to 5 stars. Original review is still here if you're wondering: (Apparently the barber in question no longer works there.) The pictures say it all, but that isn't even the only reason why I had such a bad experience at this barber shop. All I can say is, whatever you do, don't get your haircut by the tall older Russian guy. He barely looked at what he was doing. He kept stopping every 30 seconds to talk to people, and he FaceTimed his wife in the middle of the haircut, and shoved the phone in my face to say hi. So inappropriate, I just met him. He then walked around the whole barber shop with his phone, telling the other barbers to say hi to his wife. When I later complained about this, he said it was an emergency. Nice try. At the end of the haircut, he straight-razored my neck in such a rushed and clumsy way - well, you can see the terrible result in the photos! The white powdered line is a bad cut that he had to stop from bleeding. I've never asked for a refund at a barber shop but this was a first. He didn't show me the back like every other barber in the world does at the end of your cut, cause he knew how bad it was. I came back later when my super said what happened to you neck! My 4 years nephew went 07/09/2019 to get a fresh cut. Now my nephew is actually great at the barber. He knows not to move, he doesn't get restless in the chair. I went in prepare with a pic of his last cut. First warning was " why did the previous barber put in a line". What do you mean a lot of people get designs old and young. The worst hair cut ever. If you don't know what your doing don't take on a client. I don't remember his name but he is the first chair on the left. BEWARE DON'T GO. Now he has to wear hats until his hair grow back. It really upsets me because they show good work on the IG but I should of known better. IG only shows the work of 1 man. Wish I could give zero. You don't deserve 1 star. read more

A barber shop that serves primarily young men from the neighborhood. The sort you find on every block in Washington Heights but isn't that common in Jackson Heights. Jackson Heights generally has two sorts of places to get your hair cut. Mostly you see salons that serve primarily women (the Venezuelan and Colombian beauty industries are serious business) and a couple of old school barber shops that cut the hair of old time male residents (generally older men). Headz Ain't Ready serves a younger, more hip-hop identified crowd. There is a lot of testosterone in this place. There are posters of Al Pacino in Scarface all over and lots of Puerto Rican and Dominican flags. Occasionally an argument flairs up between the barbers (Yo, who took my clippers!?).And the large, flat screen TV is usually blaring some movie with lots of car chases, shoot outs and a misunderstood outlaw. But if you want to get your hair done in a fade or your beard / goatee done up nicely (including whatever the latest, intricate style is), this is the place for you. Quality differs among the different barbers. So if you have a good experience get that barber's name and stick with him. Most of the barbers will give you a number you can call so you can check that they are in (and available) before going in. Most folks walk in and just wait for whoever they want to see. Or, since it's a neighborhood place, folks will sometimes walk in and ask when they should come back. Busiest in the evenings and on Fridays and Saturdays (got to look fly on the weekend). Don't show up too early. I've walked in at 10 AM and found no one but the owner there. Affordable prices. You probably aren't going to spend more than $20 bucks for a cut, maybe more if you are having your face shaved or your beard shaped. I pay $15 for a skin fade and tip my barber $5. I gave this place three stars. In the context of Jackson Heights, it probably deserves four or five stars. But in Washington Heights you are going to find barber shops that put this one to shame - more advanced barbers, livelier discussions, more intricate grooming options. So three starts because I am grading it in the context of the entirety of New York City. read more

I'm originally from New York, I moved out 7 years ago and moved to Virginia, in those 7 years I had a son. Here in virgina I cannot for the life of me find anyone to give him a simple haircut with a fade and fix his edges. I traveled to NYC one day to visit family and stumbled upon this barbershop for my son. The colombian guy did his hair, I can't remember his name I think it was Sebastian. But he was so patient with my son (he was 2 at the time), gave him a lollipop, was understanding while my son kept crying. Not once did I see frustration in his face. This is my spot. I started going here about 8 years ago when my other barber got arrested and I was left without a barber to tame my wild hair. At the time, Stasis one of the original barber was waiting outside and he saw me. He was like young man.. " You look like you need a cut". I was like who's this guy? Little did I know he'd become the best barber I ever had. Kind of a little like a father figure to me at times actually lol but he did great when he focused. Since he left the shop, Big Rome has been cutting my hair and he's an excellent barber hands down. At Headz Ain't Ready, loyalty counts for a lot here. Having a good barber isn't a one time experience, you need to put time and effort here for them to get to know your style and eventually it develops into what you need. They really care about the customer so communication is important. If they could lower the price on some cuts a bit that might drive more business but as a haircut connoisseur I highly recommend this place. read more

I went there because i did not have my regular barber available and the experience was not worth the price. Let me begin by saying thank god this is in Jackson Heights. They have moved a few times but always in Jackson heights. Where would we get our hair cuts if this wasn't here. All the young guys and kids and families would have to travel farther. This is a beautiful hair salon for men and also now for ladies as well. I have been coming here for years and the barbers are all loyal to the store. When you come here you become family. Of course some barbers come and go but the good ones stay and you end up building a friendship with everyone. Also you can't beat the music and the soccer and good movies playing while your getting your cut. My hair is very important my barber now is Dario and boy is he great. We have good conversations and he does my hair cut the way I want It too. A mans hair shows off the persons personality and growing up in queens you always got to have the freshest cut. I have so many more great positive things to say about this place. But please give Headz ain't ready a shot to cut your hair and you won't be disappointed. read more
