LIC Tonsorial has got to be the best barbershop in Queens. To make an appointment, you have to go on their website and book an appointment with your barber which allows you to see their availability and makes the process seamless. The barbershop has a very cool and vintage vibe, it is kept very clean, all the barbers are very welcoming and extremely friendly, a variety genres of music is always played from 90s Hip Hop to Old Salsa to modern Reggaeton. Luis is my to go to barber, he is a complete artist when it comes to cutting hair, he is very professional when it comes to his craft. But all the barbers at LIC Tonsorial are beyond amazing. I've been going to LIC Tonsorial since 2021. My previous barber was cutting my hair for over a decade and he moved out of state (Miss you, Kellz ). I have a bit of experience in barbering (I use that term loosely). I've watched some YouTube videos and cut some friends, friends of friends, family, whenever they can't make it out to the barber shop or if they don't got the bread for a cut. I'm familiar with the terminology, techniques, equipment, sanitary procedures and all that, so my search for a new barber was pretty rough since I have high standards. After trying out a handful of barber shops, I decided to give up and grow out my hair during the pandemic. I went from normally having a 3 with a mid-fade to having long, shoulder length hair. I would shape it up myself every now and then, but eventually, I realized the long hair life wasn't for me and needed a cut. I reached out to my old barber that moved away, and he recommended Luis at LIC Tonsorial. I recall meeting Luis many years ago at another shop, but never got a cut from him. When I stopped by LIC Tonsorial, I was told that they do cuts based on appointment only, which is genuinely life-changing for me. The days of sitting around waiting for a haircut, spending half of your day asking your barber "how many more you got?" are a thing of the past. LIC Tonsorial got this part right for sure. Let's go back to Luis. Luis is an extremely talented barber. He's got years and years of experience, and can probably do a mid-fade with his eyes closed. He also just seems like a genuinely good dude. I'm more of the silent type, but he always found a way to get me talking or laughing. He cut my hair for a few months, and I was never disappointed. I found that he was so great of a barber that he had such a long list of clients, and was booked on the specific times that fit my schedule. If he's available when you want a cut, by all means, give the guy a shot. He won't let you down. Let's move on. I was introduced to an apprentice named Aura in late 2021. For those who don't know, an apprentice is someone that's studying the craft, learning by shadowing more experienced barbers and practicing those techniques. Their haircuts normally just take a bit longer than a master barber. I saw Aura's work a few times when I was in there and I was impressed. When Luis was on vacation, I saw that her availability was open at the time, so I made an appointment with her. I haven't had anyone else cut my hair since. Her attention to detail and the techniques that she utilizes are of the most advanced barbers, yet she still has the passion for barbering and drive to refine her skills further. It's the perfect combination that results in nothing short of a masterpiece every time. She's no longer an apprentice and has a permanent schedule there, so I would highly recommend making an appointment with her for your next cut. read more

Showed up on time for my appointment. Waited ten minutes then got a chair which is typical for just about everywhere. No biggie. Right as they were about to start a guy comes in off the street. Conversation ensues and then they tell me they are giving him my spot. They actually kicked me out of the chair. He said I have to wait for the other guy to come out of the back. I was initially going to do just that but then realized how effed up that was. The other guy finished his cut five minutes ago and was in no rush to meet the appointment time. If I could give this place zero stars I would. My partner and I have gone into this place on several occasions to get haircuts and on more than one occasion a barber has made inappropriate advances. The last time my partner went in for a cut she got David as a barber, who took it upon himself to STEAL her phone number from the barbershop log. He sent her an unwarranted text message asking her out. What he did was a gross invasion of privacy that is totally unacceptable. My partner followed up with the store manager to inform him of what was happening, and he did absolutely nothing. He was dismissive and clearly did not take the matter seriously. Needless to say my regular barber was MIA for longer than i could wait to shape up my beard, so i tried luis out. Had my first haircut and was instantly a fan, great service, not 30 minutes at all ,more like 45 minute haircut, because they pay attention to detail. They don't rush my haircut just to get me out the way. Service does mention towel, drink, etc.. I just want to start off by stating that I'm bald so I no longer require a barber. I just wahl clip myself with no guide and I'm good to go. My 2 year old son however has great hair. I've cut his hair myself in the past and while the results were getting better, the process was unenjoyable for all involved. It is absolutely offers the high-end shaving parlor quality you would expect from the name, with all the comforts of going over to a friends home, for said service. Luis is a master barber with many years of experience. If he isn't available for a walk in, then you can be guaranteed Geraldo can set you up with an incredible result as well, if he's available. I called to advise I'd be late as I was stuck on the M. I arrived 20 minutes late to my appointment. Gerardo did NOT call David to tell him I was waiting. He showed up 5 minutes before his next appointment and told me he couldn't help. When he arrived, I was sitting there and he would not look me in the eyes and tell me that he couldn't do my hair (instead of head and beard) in the 49 minutes I was there. Four chairs one barber. The guy barely speaks English, but will stand there wasting over and hour on a cut philosophizing about bullshit. Then after over an hour of waiting for him to see me, he takes another customer that walked in while I was waiting, and made an apt for after me. 0 regard for customer service. I heard the phone go off about 3 time until the guy answered. And the cherry on top, they have the testicular fortitude to charge close to $40 for a cut and shave. Get the fuck outta here. I walked past this place and seen a man cutting in the window. He appear to be good based on what I seen. So I went to my office, called them to set an appointment. A nice woman answered and got me set up with an appointment. I was very clear.. I wanted a barber at who knows what he's doing. As soon as I get there and get in his chair I realize his English is not good. So the girl had to translate. The man was not following instructions. He literally was not understanding what I was trying to tell him. I don't understand. I'm showing him pictures to give him a reference and he didn't understand that. Then when he was done, he put a curl cream in my head.. which caused it to frizz up. It was choppy on the left side but smooth on the other side... it was horrible. I've had a lot of haircuts living here but this by far was the worst. He was argumentative in Spanish was trying to hand me back the money when all I wanted him to do is what I asked him to do. The other stylist had to get involved. The situation made me entirely uncomfortable. Then I call to speak to the owner of manager and the other guy who had to wash that sticky product out of my hair answered and he too, became combative. Like I don't understand, if you don't have the skill set to do what a customer is asking you to do, say that. Then the man hung the phone up on me. There was no apology or anything saying we can fix what you're not happy with. It makes no sense to me. I pity him enough to let him keep the $30 but now, I should have taken the money back. Who treats customers like that one their first visit?! I will be contacting the manager and I will be asking for my money back. If he would have listened and paid attention, I would have been back the following week. Disappointed is an understatement. Clearly there no boundaries set for how to treat a customer. I saw this place walking by my neighborhood and I was curious to ask questions. I went inside to get some information and white young man greet me while he was working on a client. I approaching a older Latino man in the back because he was available but he didn't even wasn't to make eye contact or acknowledge me.
