It is tough to find the words that haven't already been said about Headstrong. I have made tremendous improvements in my health, fitness, and athletic performance as a rugby player with the help of the Headstrong Fit team. The coaches are knowledgeable about body mechanics, movement patterns, fitness needs, optimal athlete training, and modifications for various injuries. In addition to what they already know, they continue to learn new movements and techniques to expand their ability to coach a variety of people. Within the walls of Headstrong, you can also get guidance from a certified nutritionist, chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, and certified sports massage. The gym is kept clean and the equipment is plentiful and in good repair. Workouts are designed to maximize what is available, and classes are kept small to get more personalized coaching. Coaches are willing and able to provide a workout modification for any physical limitations you might have. During the recent pandemic and lockdown, the gym staff set up home workouts and online support for each and every member. Workouts were designed for everyone to be able to do them from home no matter what equipment they had or did not have. Modifications and suggestions have been demonstrated, questions answered, and support offered to anyone that needs it. I highly recommend taking a few classes at Headstrong (once we get the all clear) The community workouts on Saturdays are free with a non perishable donation that goes to local charities. Otherwise, there is open gym, Yoga, small group training, spin, and HEAT classes.

I was in SLO taking care of my mom, and had found Inferno on Instagram beforehand. So impressed with how badass the owner was I realized HAD to get my a** there! Definitely wasn't disappointed! What a great box, and boy what a blessing to be able to workout while away from home in my favorite place. Inferno is amazing, it's literally around the corner from the airport and the energy of the place is uber cool. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, motivating, encouraging and good hearted. The workouts are excellent, the music is awesome and the fellowship with everyone there is truly heartwarming. If you live near this place, stop scrolling the phone, get off the couch and drive down to Inferno and watch your body, mind and life change for the better. Are you mentally struggling? CrossFit is more than just fitness--it's cognitive behavior therapy--in which one is able to adopt healthier life perspectives after an hour of hard earned sweat...and the benefits are longer lasting. You start where you're at and the sky is the limit. So glad I found this gem while I was there. I can't wait to come back! Thank you so much for letting me join in.

My first two "try before you buy" sessions last year were really fantastic. I knew Gymnazo was a…read morehigh quality facility, but I didn't really have much of an idea of what to expect my first time (except the obvious bits: exercise in a group setting with a trainer). I was totally operating on my wife's descriptions of her experiences. Walking in the door that first time, I felt immediately welcomed by the staff, not only with their smiles, positivity, and enthusiasm, but also by the fact that they knew my name before I even had the chance to introduce myself. That, quite honestly, blew me away. And the first session? It was fantastic. To be honest though, I wasn't sure it's what I really wanted to do (over, or even as a supplement to my personal workout routine). But I decided I would definitely do the second session. My experience was exactly the same. After both sessions, I walked out feeling I had been given a great experience: a workout totally appropriate to my level of fitness (challenging but not overly so), the coaches consistently motivated, encouraged, and praised the work every participant was doing, and they never stopped paying attention to each person's posture, technique, and form. Both sessions ended up being something I had never experienced before, at any workout facility, anywhere. Gymnazo is truly a one-of-a-kind facility, operated by the most professional, well-informed, positive folks I've come across in the exercise industry. Yes, exercise professionals often present as positive and enthusiastic and passionate. And yes, they want to you to exercise well and reap the benefits. But the coaches and staff at Gymnazo are a totally different caliber of exercise professional. Their interest and passion for the health and well-being of clients, their obvious attention to everything (from the big picture to the little details), and their commitment to professional development through continuing education, makes them truly stand out. And then there's the way they create community. It's a truly special place. For all those reasons, I decided to join. Sure, I love the fact that I can schedule a workout type and level that fits in with how I'm feeling on a given day, show up, be greeted by name, and be given clear and continued instruction, guidance, encouragement on each exercise. But what I really love is the fact that all that is accompanied by the qualities of the staff I noted earlier. They clearly want and know how to help me reach my fitness goals. You leave after each workout in so many ways better than when you walked in. I can tell that that will never change. Gymnazo is worth your time and effort.

If you Yelp pilates in SLO you will find a very limited number of options. Sadly, the pilates craze seemed to have missed our beach town, so when I heard about Pilates Collective, I had to give it a trial run. Before you attend a class, they recommend you take a private class with a trainer one-on-one. Pilates reformers can be really intimidating and confusing to understand for newbies, so it is a nice touch that they give you a discounted personal session before you jump in. It also gives you a chance to get to know one of the trainers a little better to see if you vibe with their style. After my first one-on-one, I was hooked! I got myself a class pass and fully committed. All of the classes are very small with a maximum of 6 people total. I adore the small class structure because it forces you to improve your movement. The teachers are absolute hawks and will check if your form is off. It is amazing because it reduces the chance of injury and insures you are getting the most out of your workout. Some of my favorite teachers are Chloe and Marcy. Marcy's classes are really hard, but the best workout! She really pushes you to improve your strength. The owner Kiera, also teaches classes and she is so dedicated to the pilates. It truly shows in the studio and the camaraderie between everyone. The teachers really get to know the regular students. It makes you feel so welcome when you get to class. The only downside about Pilates Collective is the pricing. It is a steep price for a class pack. The reformer and all the equipment costs a pretty penny, so you have to empathize. I personally think the class pass is worth it, but something to keep in mind before you get yourself hooked like I did. My favorite thing about this studio is that they constantly advocate for doing pilates to improve your strength and stamina, not to just lose weight. It creates an inclusive environment and makes everyone feel comfortable (no matter your size). You do not see a lot of that in Southern California, so huge kudos developing this safe space for all shapes and sizes.

Great studio!
