The owner told me on the phone to do a dry style instead. Which is when I wash at home the morning or night before and come in for just a style. And for my makeup I was also very hesitant. Especially because of my skin tone and I wanted to have a very natural look. Daniella did my makeup. She asked me many questions to make sure she understood the concept I was going for. She was very gentle with the makeup. And was a perfectionist. She has the passion to do makeup and enjoyed it which made the service much more enjoyable. My appointment was at 11:15, and I was out of the chair at 12:01--that is only ONE MINUTE over 45 minutes! Their own website indicates that extended appointments are for services requiring 60-75 minutes, NOT described as anything over 45 minutes. When I brought this up, the front desk pushed back instead of clearly explaining how their policy applied to my appointment. I received conflicting explanations from multiple people about the charges. The front desk claimed my hair was "longer and thicker than the average customer" and used that as justification for charging more. This was genuinely hurtful. Due to hormone and thyroid issues, I am experiencing rapid hair loss, and my hair is thinning significantly. I wish I had the long, thick hair they claimed I had. You can literally see my scalp through my part. While they couldn't have known my personal circumstances, making assumptions about my hair to justify an unexpected charge was upsetting, especially when no one could provide a consistent explanation of the pricing. The numbers didn't even make sense. I was told the charge should be $70, then told it should only be $66, but I was charged $72.01. My receipt only listed a "custom amount" without itemizing the services. Even accounting for the 10% sales tax, the numbers didn't add up. To make matters worse, the service itself was disappointing. My hair was still curly, wavy, and frizzy afterward. I left unhappy with the results and frustrated by the entire experience. They did refund the additional charge, but only as a courtesy. While I appreciate the refund, it doesn't erase the lack of transparency, inconsistent explanations, disappointing results, or how hurtful the comments about my hair were. Customers deserve clear pricing, consistent policies, and quality service without having to argue to understand their bill. My dermatologist said that the damage was from her pulling. She also broke off a lot of hair. That hair started growing back within 3 months. In contrast, hair that is pulled from the roots can take years to grow back. I'm wondering why a salon that specializes in natural hair has a stylist who doesn't know how to comb hair. Using conditioner and parting before combing is key. You also must part before blow drying. She attempted to comb my hair all at once and to blow dry it all at once. This is a bad practice. Also, she did not condition or moisturize my hair well. I've been to other salons and no one has had a problem combing my hair. It is next level for someone to pull your hair out. I told her my scalp hurt and was sore. She acted like it was no big deal. I went in the salon with very healthy long hair that was even. But I left with my hair being a choppy mess.
