It's safe to say I will never be back to this location for any sort of wedding services/needs…read more I am not a bride, but a MOH in my sister's upcoming wedding. My sister did not buy her dress at The Hostess House but we happened to find the bridesmaids dresses here. Our first visit wasn't too bad, it wasn't too impressive but it wasn't anything worth writing home about. Our second visit for our fitting is what did this place in. My mom, the matron of honor, and I were placed into a dressing room to try on our dresses and left there. We physically had to go find the consultant to ask about alterations and the like. The consultant did not have SHOES on when she came back to talk to us. Our dresses weren't steamed when we got there and the consultant even admitted to "not having the time to get around to it." At this point I had decided I wouldn't be giving this place anymore of my time or money in alterations so we went up the front to pay the shipping costs of the dresses and leave. No one would even acknowledge us and our same consultant was joking with another consultant about their drinking shenanigans. Finally my sister spoke up for us and our consultant said "Oh, I haven't even pulled your file yet let me go check what you owe us." I will never be back there, and I will be telling all future brides/bridesmaids that I know to not go back there.

We used the entire building for the wedding and it was perfect. The first floor was used to welcome the guests and conduct the ceremony. The second, floor having incredible views, we used for the reception. "Mad Hatter Catering" provided catering menu above our expectation with a great selection of fresh meats, cheeses, dips and fruits, which were beautifully presented. This was followed by a buffet dinner allowing guest a selection of foods as desired. The end of the ceremony was completed with a beautiful 3 tiered cake. They say the proof of the quality of the food served is in the eating and we received countless positive comments, not only with the food but also being impressed with the location and amenities of the venue. The views from the venue are breathtaking, and are complemented by a small park being easily accessible which makes any photographing and videotaping easier and beautiful allowing for a timeless pictorial memory of any event. The staff and the events manager, Sommer, were extremely professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and easy to deal with. Sommer proved to be caring to our needs, easily accessible providing clear and complete information about the venue. After looking around other venues we found the"The Black Pearl" to be the ideal venue for either large or small events during any time of the year! Rain or shine. The location, internal space, parking, ease of access from the highway and staff accommodated all our needs even if the weather is unpredictable. Additionally, for guests from out of town, there is a new Best Western Hotel located near the Black Pearl. I highly recommend Black Pearl for your future event! Nely Berea

Loved seeing the property, buildings and the artifacts and hearing the story of how this family came to find a home in this small town along the river. Dr Cable was the first doctor in the area and you can still see his furniture and where he treated patients (as well as the beautiful piano for his wife that took a journey to get to them!). Learned that they have TEA & SWEETS served Fridays from 2-4 PM $5 per person in the cute little cottage in the back... wonderful place to visit! One thing to note is that the time is wrong... they are not open until 5 as stated here on yelp! Museum Hours are Friday 11:00 - 3:00, Saturday 11:00 - 3:00, Sunday 1:00 - 3:00 or tours and events any day or time by appointment.
