This was my first experience with any type of off shore fishing and it was great! Captain Joe and his deck hand Nate were top notch! Captain Joe put us in a spot where we were catching Rockfish about every cast. Captain Joe and Big Nate were doing everything to help us get fish off the line and back in the water as fast as they could. After we caught our limit of Rockfish (which didn't take long) we moved on to Ling Cod. They put us on some really good spots and limited out on those too! Once we got done with the Ling Cod we moved in to the crab. They let us help pulling the crab pots up and unloading the crabs. Oh and we limited out on them. We liked it so much we went back out the next day and had the same outcome! Captain Joe is definitely an expert at what he does and is a lot of fun to be around. He has a great crew. There are many options when it comes to chartered fishing companies along the Oregon coast. We have enjoyed many fishing excursions with a number of those companies. For our most recent adventure, we chose haystack fishing. Joe and Wendy exceeded our expectations in every way. Taking a group of two adults and four young and adventurous boys is a tall order... and Joe was up to the task. As a boat, we limited out on rockfish and caught several lingcod. This was thanks to Joe keeping us in the areas the fish were. Each and every one of us caught fish and had a great time. As a bonus we got to see whales too! The length of the charter was perfect, and Wendy did a lovely job carefully cleaning and packing the fish to take home, and generously included some of her favorite recipes for us to try. read more

This was a great experience. We went with another couple as a double date and had a blast. Joe was a great captain and we were fishing within 15 minutes of launching off the beach. Maxed out on rockfish in about 20 minutes and then had a ball catching ling cod! So exciting to actually catch something. Even my fishing cursed husband had fun and caught fish! We had such a good time on Joe Hay's boat last year that we signed up again for 2020. Joe put us on the fish quickly and kept us in action all morning. He and his mate worked great with my kids--they let the kids have the fun and do a lot of the work, but they assisted when needed. We nearly limited on rock bass, landed over 5 lingcod and picked up 15 Dungeness crabs on the way back to the beach. We'll be back for more next year! read more

Our crew of three adults, two teenagers, and an 8-year old had a great time with Captain Joe. We caught our limit of rockfish, a few lingcod, along with taking home a couple dozen crabs. We even saw a whale on the way in. Everyone caught multiple fish on a beautiful early summer day, and the dory boat launch and return was amazing.
