At any time we are processing between 150 to 350 million gallons of sewage in a 24 hour period, we also extract methane gas that we pipe over to a DWP electrical generation station just to the south of us who burn the gas to make electricity.
We also provide reclaimed water to effluent customers such as golf courses, freeway foliage, and industrial cooling needs. We also send a bit of this reclaimed water to a tertiary treatment facility over in El Segundo which after that is treated can be consumed! Yes, Toilet to tap! We also send reclaimed water up to deep wells in the Santa Monica area to pump back down in the natural water aquifers to replace water that is being drawn out much further inland, if we did not do this sea water would be drawn up in this and poluting a water supply. By the time the reclaimed water reaches the withdrawl wells it has been filtered through miles of rock.
Our site has daily tours by appoimtment, so, if you have a school group that is interested in waste mangement a guide can be arrange to take you around our facility. Also, we welcome film crews to feature our site in back grounds for the entertainment industry. We've had X-files, Enterprise, CSI, and many other shows shot here as well as advertising shoots. Remember, it's your tax dollars so feel free to come by and see how well your dollars are invested. :o)

And now for a lighter subject:
It was the day after the UYE event this past Wednesday evening at Tretch's in Long Beach, the one where there was free wine for two hours and then an after gathering at Prospector's for more drink and singing. All seemed like a good idea at the time but as I woke the next morning on my couch in my robe, cold feet, and over an hour later than when my alarm goes off, I thought... What the...?
I park and enter my building but pause in the entry lobby... I'm hungry and not really thinking straight, I make the ill fated turn into our snack room. I know there is a vending machine in there that deals out burritos that could survive 12 years lost at sea, just the thing to have after a looooong night out with yelpers!
I feed in the $1.25 for the beefy delight and slide open the little door only to be DENIED recovery of my ready made meal! In my post late night fog, and still slightly buzzed state, I didn't rotate the food merry-go-round properly to line it up with the little door. ARRRRG!
So, another $1.25 goes into what I think is a snickering machine, push the arrow button to line things up correctly and presto, I have my beef brick.
After re-animating this manufactured consumable I was happy I picked the beef one as it had the perfect amount of heat/spice to continue the waking process of my mind, the black tea I made went with it perfectly!
Oh office vending machine it's a love/hate thing we have, lets not get to close. I still respect you.. I'll call. :o]
