The Coopers have been in the Centre for about 2 months. They are open for business when you see them in the shop which is usually around 5am in the morning. They are taking their christmas orders in early November which is pleasing as I want to be more organised this year instead of racing to Coles for a mediocre ham. They have a useful knife sharpening service and will make recommendations for cooking techniques if you are like me and have no idea what the best way is too cook some types of meat. Today I have chosen a bolognaise rib frangapanni pastry because well it looked fantastic in that display as part of this review I intend to describe tonights meal. I dont think anyone can walk past without popping your head in to at least look at the display, ask some questions the Coopers would be pleased to help or in my case - guide you to how best serve their offerings.

Surprised at the low prices for the and was a little suss.. the staff and most customers were Chinese but they spoke English so was fine. Then I noticed the lamb was from Cowra (a place known for quality lamb) so I started picking a few things. T bones steaks, yes. Lamb leg and cutlets.. yes. Brisket, yes. Beef tendon- sure why not (needs further explanation - next time..). Scotch fillet, yes. What about pork scotch, why not? Pork roast, yes add it on. When I said it might be too much to carry, she offered help to carry to the car and convinced me to buy some chicken wings and breast fillets. So, from having a quick look to $280. But still great value. And they did get a dude from the back to help carry to the car. The biggest challenge was fitting it in the freezer when I got home. Definitely worth checking out for great value, quality and variety. Oh, they threw in some sausages for free and we're very unusual. First tine I had 'Chinese flavoured' sausages.

A quality butcher in Balmain. For quality mince to make spaghetti bolognese I always come here; or…read moreeven for those mince patties. High quality meat, it must be organic, and the great news it is - better for you as well. Just way too fresh and why bother with the overpriced processed meat at the supermarkets. It is so worth paying extra here for better quality and more filling meat with personalised and pretty good service; well the latter has ben the case every time I have come to this establishment. Also I am not much of a bacon person; in fact I really despise bacon or any pig related meat; yet when I was at a friends house for brunch one Sunday morning I decided to give the bacon a go as it smelt so fresh as it was being cooked. Tried it; divine and I had to ask this particular friend of mine where she brought the bacon from, and she told me it was from TJ's here on Darling Street. It was like wow. The only butcher where I will literally "bring home the bacon" from while I was living in Sydney, and on those occasions when I come back to Sydney to visit and stay at the family home in nearby Rozelle.

It's certainly got the personal service that my mum would have enjoyed though the cuts on offer are far better quality than we would have purchased I have no doubt. Pennys serve very high quality produce at high quality prices and they have a strong and loyal following in the community. They do sell some organic produce but they are best known for the preparation of their meats with wonderful marinades. I went for Pork Fillet with Sage and Prosciutto, Thai Coconut Chicken Skewers and Thin Beef Sausages. They sell meat that makes a good cook of anyone and this from a woman who only eats fish and chicken and yet cooks all sorts of red meat delights for my family. The fillet in particular receiving a very satisfied nod. They sell all manner of accompaniments too, though the delicious Beerenberg relishes are nearly twice the price of Harris Farm Markets up the road.
