Well, I did something different this time. I was in the mood for the Americanized Asian, so Hayashi came to mind. Since it was just my wife and I, we decided to forego the show and dine in their small dining room hoping to save a little money. I was a little surprised that the menu was the same teppanyaki menu as the one in the main dining room where they cook in front of you. Also, the prices were the same. Really the only difference was that the food was cooked in the kitchen and you don't tip twice (once on the check and once to the teppanyaki chef). Also, it was quicker to eat in the small dining area, where you don't have to wait for the show to start. The food was still the same familiar Hayashi teppanyaki food we were accustomed to, but I did feel that the dish was really heavy on the rice and light on the beef and scallops. Also, I did pay extra for the filet and asked for it medium-rare. Unfortunately it came out well done and dry. The scallops were pretty good. I did enjoy the miso soup and salad. The main dish was pretty good and our server was good. All-in-all not too bad, but I am not sure if it was worth the money. I think we would have been better of in the main dining area where the food would have been more freshly prepared and the steak cooked more to my liking. But, I do feel the service was much more prompt in the small dining room. An enjoyable evening to be sure.

We chose this place for the happy hour. I was celebrating my daughter's 18th birthday. We asked for the happy hour menu and I was give a laminated page. I confirmed with our server that these were the happy hour items. Food comes out and while the rolls were pretty tasty and good portions the gyoza was bland and the calamari tempura was very chewy. Whatever you win some you lose some. All the adults at the table are servers or bartenders so we get it. When I asked for the check the only thing that was happy hour was the gyoza. $168 for 4 adults and 2 kids. Made a stop in the restroom on the way out and was in desperate need of some attention. Won't be coming back, overall it was just a disappointing experience.

    Las Vegas roll

Worst sushi ever. Ordered a Las Vegas roll and I just got a huge chunk of brown avocado.

They didn't let me and my wife and kid get a seat. And they said that the wait was 2 - 3 hours.

It was both gorgeous and delicious!!! Nestled in an Avondale strip mall, this cozy little Japanese place serves up a deep menu of over 60 different sushi rolls, five different kinds of ramen, as well as staple Japanese and Korean entrees like Teriyaki, Bulgogi, and Katsu bowls. The restaurant is pristine: everything in the front of the house was clean and the decor was a balance of both modern and traditional Japanese. Their lunch rush was steady; the dining room was well occupied shortly after opening. And the service was attentive and genuine! This is, hands down, one of the best sushi spots in the area! I will be back!

Unfortunately, I have to change my review. We've been coming here since Sushi Love first opened,…read moreand in the beginning this place was on top of things, the servers were friendly and attentive, and while the kitchen could be a little slow at times, it was never anywhere near as bad as what we experienced today. Here's the timeline from when we arrived to when we finally received everything: 12:10 - Seated 12:20 - Finally able to order drinks and food 12:27 - Received my single sushi roll 12:54 - Guest received his entree 1:04 - Just received our gyoza appetizer It took over 10 minutes after being seated before the waitress even got us water. I was trying to look up other restaurants in the area because we were about to leave. What made this even more confusing was that it was a Sunday right after opening, and the restaurant wasn't even busy. Because the appetizer took so long, I ended up splitting my single sushi roll with my guest so he wouldn't have to sit there hungry while waiting on his food. Even then, it still took over 30 minutes for his entree to arrive, which was ridiculous considering it was just one dish. The most frustrating part was waiting nearly 45 minutes for a single appetizer order of gyoza. We were honestly close to leaving before it ever arrived, and I would have left still hungry. If the appetizer had come out in a reasonable amount of time, I could have actually enjoyed the roll I came there for in its entirety instead of having to split it just so we could get by while waiting. The pacing of the food also made no sense. Appetizers should come out before entrees, not after everything else. Instead, one person was eating while the other sat there waiting, which made the entire experience awkward and frustrating. If the waitress paced things correctly it would have made a huge difference and likely helped prevent the kitchen from getting backed up. On top of that our waitress never apologized for the delays or acknowledged the excessive wait times, not even after we waited over 10 minutes just to get water. She did repeatedly asked if we "needed anything else" while we were still waiting on food. Like, yes, we needed the food we already ordered? Overall, the experience felt extremely disorganized and uncaring from both the service staff and the kitchen. What's especially disappointing is that this wasn't our first bad experience here. This is now the second visit in a row where we've dealt with extremely slow service and a noticeable lack of attentiveness (last time we were there they forgot some food, not only ours but also a table next to us). This place used to be good, which makes the decline even more frustrating, the kitchen needs an overhaul or something. Sushi is good and not as slow but ordering anything from the kitchen or getting drinks is like pulling teeth to get. Sushi Love isn't a huge restaurant, so it's hard to understand how things have become this disorganized. We gave the restaurant another chance hoping things would improve, but this was by far the worst experience we've had here.

A true one‑star experience is foreign objects in the food, cold meals, or no service at all -- and that's not what I experienced. I ordered takeout, and when I got home the food was still hot. I had the shrimp egg foo young and BBQ pork fried rice. The egg foo young was excellent, and the portion size of the fried rice -- along with the amount of BBQ pork -- was generous. This is easily a solid four‑star experience, maybe higher depending on what you order. I've lived on the west side for years, and I still haven't found a better Chinese takeout spot in the area. I couldn't tell you the timeframe of when the current ownership took it over from the previous owner when I first started frequenting Eest. The change was immediately felt. The level of customer care and taste of food changed. Not for the worst, but different. My last visit this month for an order of shrimp fried rice was my final straw and I will find somewhere else to find some food. It has been a very slow spiral downward with the quality of food. I am talking years where the consistency was slipping. Then last month it was as if they forgot what they were doing. What was served to me was edible, but nowhere near what I have been given in the past. I hope it was a bad day for the kitchen for the establishment's sake! Call in takeout orders have been a speed bump. You call in and you're quoted a time of when your order will be ready. You pay for your order when you get there. Then the clock starts. It totally defeats the purpose of the original quoted timeframe.

I opted to forego the "show" ... being seated at a community table for the chef show. But clearly this is the primary focus of this restaurant. But on the flip side, it looked and sounded like the people at the community "show" tables were having a ball. Lots of birthdays and celebrations. Anyway, great menu. Started with a couple inspired cocktails, and moved on to the fish taco's and lamb chop appetizers. Outstanding. Only nit, our server disappeared, and the app plates were left on table when our main courses showed up. We were also never serviced for another round of drinks. For our mains I ordered the Wagyu filet with asparagas and fried rice sides cooked medium. My dining guest ordered the salmon roll and a side of fried rice. My steak came out gray and rare, no sear crust at all. Very disappointing. On the flip side my dining partners portion of fried rice was astoundingly large, and good. Never did see our server again until the check was brought over. We were not even offered the dessert menu other than the small pineapple sherbet that came with my meal. Parking is brutal here.
