We LOVE Hawthorne. An amazing community-entrenched school. Very proud to send my daughter here, as are several of our neighbors. Great teachers, and staff. They really care about the kids, and work hard to ensure a tight knit community vibe. They seem to know everyone's names, and there are several events throughout the year that help build familiarity and positive experiences. Plus it's a great school with some truly inspirational educators. We. Love. Hawthorne! read more

We have been part of the school for three years. Our daughter has grown so much from her time here. Academically, she is challenged by her teachers to think critically (even in kindergarten). The other day she asked if we wanted to make up math story problems at the dinner table, because Giddens encourages students to bring fun, creativity, and exploration into how they learn hard skills. Social and emotional learning is also a major focus for the school. Last week there was a talent show for the k-4th graders, and the amount of love, respect, and excitement the entire school showed to these brave and talented performers was incredibly moving. Giddens works hard to education future leaders, and it shows.

I have two sons who both attended MLM for two years each. Before MLM both our sons attended other…read morewell-regarded pre-school programs elsewhere. However nothing before or since compares to MLM. The teachers there were and are dedicated, intelligent, creative and experienced in the Montessori method. Particular stand-outs during our tenure there were Connie and Reshonna, both of whom are long-time MLM teachers who are wise, loving, and great fun. The current director (Amy) came on board in my younger son's final year and she was an excellent addition to the team. They each knew my kids well and gave them lots of individual attention and communicated well with us about both the successes and challenges our kids were having. The community was excellent and a commitment to diversity and collaboration in our children's education was prized. The school is overseen by a parent run board and during our years with MLM (and before and after as we lived in the neighborhood, we have known many MLM families) I was always impressed by the dedication and hard work of the parents who contribute to the school. MLM was not cheap but it was worth it. The lessons our children learned there serve them to this day (as do the lessons we, as parents learned). Both my spouse and I served on the MLM parent board and on several committees over the years so I can speak from the "inside" as well as the "outside" viewpoint. MLM is a unique and wonderful place and we'll be forever grateful for the time our kids spent there. It's been a year and a half since our youngest son graduated and have since moved away but we treasure the memories of the MLM experience and recommend it highly for those parents who want their children to enter into the school experience in the Montessori method which, while perhaps not the best fit for every child was certainly an excellent choice for us.

Relationships quickly bloomed. The online portal that is updated by his teachers throughout the day documented sleeping, eating and diaper patterns, giving us full visibility to what his days looked like. All of this provided me with peace of mind, which is what you need as a new parent during this transition. Fast forward four months: we have an extremely happy child who lights up every day at drop off for school and is in no rush to leave at pick up time! Children cannot fake their excitement, so you know that this is genuine. The child-led philosophy of Montessori allows our son freedom in the classroom to "choose his own adventure" every day, while still providing him with a structured curriculum that has enabled him to surpass his milestones. Being a very active child, our son is thriving in this environment and we have seen tremendous growth in him, both socially and developmentally. It is evident that the team here truly cares about the children and love what they do. I would recommend PFM to any families seeking a child care experience that is nurturing, community oriented and child focused.
