My first time playing this course after considerable research. Michelle and I were looking for something close to Lake Buena Vista where we were staying and this location seemed appealing because of the positive reviews, a personal recommendation and because it has a driving range. We arrived 45 minutes before the tee time so we could get in some range time and hit some putts. The check-in with Ryan was NOT a positive experience. The same Ryan I spoke to on the phone when I called almost 3 weeks before. I told him I was playing 9 holes SOLO and would have a rider, he confirmed there was a Vet discount. The rate he quoted worked but when I checked in he told me there was a $45.00 rider fee. I told him that was not mentioned when I called ahead of time. He said 'well, the person you spoke to should have told you'. I told him 'YOU were that person and I have my notes if you want to look at them. By now everyone in the Pro Shop is looking and I could tell Michelle was getting uncomfortable so I just paid it. Then we go to get a cart and we can't find an attendant. I start to put my clubs on a cart and then someone says 'you can't use that cart'. The young man proceeds to start taking my clubs off with no explanation. Then he puts them on another cart and Michelle and I are just looking at each other in disbelief. We finally get it all sorted and head to the drive range which is adjacent to the Starter. When I asked about the range on the phone, it was never mentioned you can only hit off mats and NO drivers allowed. We got paired up with a son and mother from Columbia, SC who had played there before. The course is very nice, lots of bunkers and water. In good condition for mid-February and the pace of play was good. I would not return, there are too many other better options and the Marriott Grande Vista in Orlando is a better choice IMO. After my return home, I got in contact with the GM and explained the unpleasant experience in the Pro Shop and got a refund for the over charge. read more

Really nice conditions overall here in July, deserves 5 stars. The greens are diamond zoysia and the rest is Bermuda. First time with DZ greens, rolled very true but needed to add 20% strength on putts - slow. Three birdies today. Lots of water, some blind, can be tough to navigate for a first time on the course. Didn't see any gators. Would have been nice to hit driver on the range, unreasonable. The food and service was great but hotdogs don't need to be $13. I'd play it again. read more

This course was very well designed and maintained. Located as part of the Orlando World Center Marriott hotel, it does take a little ride to get there. The staff there was very good at helping us park. As part of a large group, they treated us like we were on the pro tour. The greens were a bit fast. The fairways were plush. Plenty of sand traps and water hazards. Not an easy course, but also not too tough. The folks at the pro shop were very nice. I found some nice souvenirs to take back. As part of a group, the price was a bit high, but food and beverage were included. read more

This was my first time playing this course and the man in the pro shop was very considerate in getting me out as soon as I got there. I was a single with my wife along for the ride. He put me in with a threesome from Canada and we had a fun day. That was the good. The course itself was in pretty good condition for being February with good grass fairways and nice greens that were probably rolling a 14 on the stimp meter. Downhill putts were impossible to get close to the hole. There is lots of water and the bunkers are very fluffy. Now for the not so good. The guy in the parking lot taking the bags down to where they are put on a cart was less than cheerful and my wife said he was just rude to her while I went in and paid. And my last thing is the cost. The green fee was $189. They changed $45 just for my wife riding along and then tax was $15. All totaled it was a $249 round. The course isn't worth that but I wanted to play so there's that. If you in town for work or vacation, shop around. read more

I enjoy this course but can't give it an overall 5 stars for just a few minor points. The driving range is set up so that you can only hit off of the mats and even worse, you can only hit irons. I need to hit driver when I'm warming up more than any other club, so I literally will often choose to play other courses instead of this one.....and I live 3 minutes down the road. I think the peak season rate is a bit high relative to other resort courses in the area. I enjoy the layout though and it's in good shape. read more

Wonderful time playing golf here. From the bag drop attendant who met us with a smile and a sense of humor to the pro shop staff who were helpful, the starter who got us out quickly, everyone was great. The course was in perfect condition. The drink cart came around frequently. Great pace of play. Beautiful wildlife. And. Appreciate that the golf balls they sold in the pro shop were a good price as we donated a lot to the ponds. Can't wait to return. read more

My girlfriend and I came to the pro shop as hotel guests for the weekend of our 4 year anniversary. We play golf regularly and we're excited because the hotel stay included range ball buckets and practice time with our resort fees. We can see the driving range from our room, and saw that is was half empty so figured it was a good time to go hit it for a bit of practice. We walked into the pro shop and were greeted like we weren't allowed to be in there by a judgemental looking individual. I explained we wanted to use our range bucket for the day and just hit some practice since the range looked empty. After rolling his eyes, the dude said "sorry we are so booked they told us not to allow the public to use the driving range until after 3pm when our tee times slow down" Seriously? The range is freaking empty. We're paying hotel guests who have paid a resort fee. And we only want to use the range for a few minutes. It's not like we're dumb kids trying to squeeze in for a cheap round of golf. Unreal. read more

This is for the rental clubs only. I rented women's clubs 50 dollars and got out on the course and found out that nearly every iron had no grip left. They were shredded like tissue paper. When I brought them back and let the attendant know he said yeah they are 4 years old. He did not offer any accommodation or refund. If I was a man and rented men's rental clubs they would've never let them get to that state. And if they had they would've profusely apologized probably offer a free round of golf and a full refund. An anticipated great experience turned to disrespect and poor customer service. I am with my family on a vacation and decided to call down to the pro shop from my hotel room. I was pleased when the man on the phone said they had a "fairways and furloughs" program for military! This included a heavily discounted tee time, and a free round on our next stay. Obviously I booked it. I went down to the pro shop with wife and three kids same evening to pick up and polo shirt and golf balls in anticipation for the early tee time (impromptu round, with my wife's blessing.) I walk into the pro shop and inform the man standing behind the counter that I was just looking for a few things for the next day's round. He asked what tee time, I told him. He responded "that deal is only valid after 2pm." This was a surprise to me since I did not get that from the gentleman over the phone, less than an hour before. He proceeded to tell me that the new price for that tee time would be almost double what I was originally told. After my request to cancel the tee time, he tried to offer me the "twilight rate" but that was still significantly more than what I was told. Note: I may have made the mistake of walking in with a short sleeve shirt. I am heavily tattooed on my arms (all Maritime related, zero offensive tattoos from my time in the Navy) and I felt the up and down look I got may have contributed to this. As an avid golfer (and veteran) I am quite disappointed in this experience. Let's see if they charge me for the cancellation. That's for another review. read more

Well groomed and the rating is mainly based on the people. They had just overseeded and were watering so much that the fairways were squishy. But it was easy to overlook with as nice as everyone was there. Cold water for the round as you start, fresh cold apples at the turn, what a nice experience and as a FL resident there is a nice discount. Played here in June while staying at Marriott World Center on a conference. Course was in great shape, but greens were a little slower than I'd hoped for. Nice track for a hotel course. Not overly long (green/white tees: 6165 yds, 70.3/129) but plenty of areas to get into trouble with water coming into play on a lot of holes. No. 4 is an interesting par 5, but as long as you don't get too aggressive, can stay out of trouble. I stayed in a room overlooking the green so fun to watch people butcher the hole (including myself). No. 18 is a nice finishing hole and tough to get in regulation, even more so with the wind blowing against you. read more

We have played here during past visits but this is my first review of HLGC. I called prior to our trip to ask about rentals and the shop was very helpful and friendly. Booking tee times and a ladies rental set was easily done online so we were good to go. Check in was easy and they were quick to get the rental set ready for me. The starter was quite pleasant and explained was to expect out of the course and play time for folks ahead of us. The carts has the GPS lay out for you so you don't really need to use a separate one. However, it was a little slow to show the next hole. It also went berserk on us about driving too close to the green when we were on the cart path lol. The course was quite clean and for a month where there wasn't enough rain, it was in great shape. We played the next day and our experience was the same. We love the convenience of the on site course with the hotel and will def come back. read more

Nice corse but extremely disappointed with the course management. It took us approximately 5 hours to complete the round because they over sold the course. After hour round we talked to the director and expected him to at the very least comp a round discount the green fee or something but nope just an apology and stated it was their busiest day of the year and this never happens. Loved the course...stayed here on vacation in April of 2013 and played on a nice picturesque 85 degree day. Water comes into play often but the course still plays very fair. Conditions were great but the greens were very slow. I've seen that the other two reviews mentioned that they were bothered by the noisy highway...our group never once thought twice of it. We played after 3 and received a $59 rate which we thought was very fair. Also, one member of our group rented clubs and they provided us with the newest Callaways on the market...rentals were $39. read more

Solid golf course. 4th hole par 5 is a pretty interesting one. Water in play and made more interesting by the fact that winds were messing it up big time. Fairways were well maintained (got a good roll when I delofted the clubs and played to escape the wind). Greens were in pretty decent shape as well. The only complaints are a) that there was noise from the road/hwy nearby b) Bio-break facilities were non-existent (and visiting bushes was somewhat challenging -given you could either see the property or the road at any given point of time:) read more

Just got finished trying to play Hawks Landing. The course is ok and I pretty good condition. Why I am giving it a one star is pace of play and rude staff (Head Pro). The front 9 went smooth on pace to play in 4:15. After playing three hole in the back in 1:14 minutes to get thru those holes was mind blowing. Golfers we looking for balls, wearing jeans shorts and t-shirts. Get as many on course as possible. I decided to quit and when I came in to voice my complaint one of the pros said let me refund you 9 and apologized and then another one came out and basically called me a liar and said there is no backup and explained why. He was not on the course and was rude and arrogant. I would not recommend this course to any of my friends. read more

The workers here are nice. The course looks in good condition, however i did not think it warranted 4 stars like everyone else. I have played other courses this week in Orlando, and this was not worth my $60. Maybe $30. The greens were very slow. They were not cut well. The carts are old, and the GPS is off by 20 yards. I finally figured that out after 2 holes and adjusted. When I brought it up to the pro shop, the guy told me I was wrong. I shrugged it off, but the annoyance bothered me that he didn't care. Played 3/25/2014. Only 3 stars (lost 2 star for conditions around and on the greens). Great layout, friendly staff, attentive staff in the beverage cart. All the elements for a great experience, but the greens are not in good shape and the fringes are not mowed down, giving you slow hairy fringes, with spotty greens. Not a good combo. But, a great layout, and tough in the wind. Good mix of holes with some nice short holes on the back protected by water. Then some tough long holes always into the wind. So, you will definitely enjoy the day - and if the green complexes improve with seeding, and maintenance, this is a 4 and half star place. Great and friendly staff. Plus, teed off at 2;30pm, when the starter noticed my son and I were hitting good shots off the range and recommended we get out in front of some other groups and allowed us off early. I wouldn't call Hawk's Landing a masterpiece, it does have an interesting layout on a couple of its par 5s, other than that, it's typical for a flat course surrounded by a lot of water hazards. I only played the front nine (twice) due to the back nine not being accessible since it was under repair. Greens were a little rough, fairways were ok but browning in a couple of places. Driving range was decent especially since we were hitting off the grass and not off a mat. The clubhouse was well equipped and the staff were cordial, polite and welcoming. They provide Taylormade M2 for their rental equipment....although I'm not a fan of Taylormade, the set I used was fairly new. Overall good round of golf. read more

first impressions pulling up to the clubhouse and looking up to this beautiful resort and a 18 hole golf course right there. parked my car and walked over to the bag drop and had to ring a bell for valet to come wasn't the greatest but oh well. walked inside and the clubhouse was beautiful. my clubs were waiting down below and right away there was a putting green, chipping green, and a simple driving range with complimentary range balls. what was really nice was the starter booth that had free tees, divot tools and information about the course. hit some balls and the starter gave me information about the course. the course was in perfect shape and i even had the front 9 to myself. when i got to the back 9 i had a small waiting time but the greatest part was running into the cart girl and shes was impressed how fast i was playing. and even knew my name. overall absolutely loved the course from top to bottom absolutely worth $100 for the round i would have paid during peak season. they keep the course in pristine condition and its challenging and fun and the staff is super nice and luxury style golf. cheap golf is still available until October and there is a donation game going on on hole #2 to get 30% off merchandise if you hit the green. i highly recommend this course to Florida residents and tourists and Marriott members read more
