I think the comment above is rather unfair, what do you expect from a rural pub except for good food, good atmosphere, and a friendly landlord and lady. If you want loud music, no character in your surroundings and no atmosphere I suggest you go to some pubs around where the food is microwaved, boiled in the bag and the menu changes not one bit because fresh vegetables are never a consideration. We called into the Hawkins today and had a lovely meal. Granted, we arrived early and there was hardly anyone there to start off with but Adam and Alex came and chatted with us and eventually people started to arrive with well behaved childrebn and dogs and the atmosphere was one of goodwill, friendly conversation and a feeling that one wanted to come back again to sit by the log fire and to experience what is essentially an Old World Pub with two lovely people who are trying to make a go of something and bring it tastefully into the 21st Century without spoiling the fantastic history which goes with this pub as well as offering good value food and beers in a time of cut throat competition. If I had to give one word to the Hawkins it would be unpretentious. I wish you the best of luck Adam and Alex and we will certainly be back and bringing friends with us. Oh and the liver and bacon casserole today was delicious, compliments to the chef. buckbantyandwifey read more
