Just say 'No.' Not entirely sure where to begin on this…read morebecause there is so much to write. Well, there is so much to write about here. We hired ARS to renovate our master bathroom. We were told the job would be approximately 3 weeks to do. We paid half up front & the other half was to be due upon completion of the punchlist items. The job started off great! Prompt on the demo and clean up. Then the problems started... Now, we are not experts in design at all, and they provided one to us for tile selection. Turns out that the tile we chose for our shower floor had to be hand laid, which resulted in poor grout lines in the shower. ARS stated that it was due to the walls not being straight, but they had it down to the studs & could have fixed that initially. Then there was the project manager on our job... He was a new hire and supposedly had a lot of experience. Unfortunately, he had very poor communication skills and did not keep us up to speed on the work. Add in a poor attitude and let's just say that he wasn't easy to deal with. Then there was the bathtub... We were told to use Google image search to find bathtubs we liked. We did & presented the options to our sales guy. After trying to talk us into a different tub, he finally said that he could get the exact tub we wanted. It would be more money, but we were ok with that. So, I sent a confirmatory email (with picture attached) for it. When the tub was delivered, it was not the correct tub. We told them that & they tried to say that it was correct. Even the owner of the company, John Hogan, said it wasn't the same tub when we looked at the picture together. Then there was the shower... It was initially tiled by one of their guys. Unfortunately, the gout lines were not even and the shower floor wasn't even either. Needless to say, my wife wasn't happy. So, they told us it was because of the tile we picked. Again, we had no clue because the designer they gave us didn't let us know, probably because it was her last day when she met with us. So, they redid the shower floor, after getting us another designer. This time, they used their best tile guy. And it was certainly a better job than the first time, no arguments there! But, the grout was still uneven on the floor, even after changing the tile to one that they company said would be easiest to lay. Through all of this they kept saying that our satisfaction was their priority. To whit, the original project manager was fired, the owner of the company was to then be our project manager, but he handed us off to another new hire. This last PM tried his best, but even told us that "It's difficult to come in and try to fix something that wasn't done right in the first place." My thought was, 'I agree! So, why not take it all down & start over?' So, finally after 3 MONTHS of this, ARS comes to my wife & I and states, "Look,we're not gonna be able to make you happy." We settled what was left of our bill and they left the job unfinished. At this point, I am working with multiple subcontrators to finish the job. The sales guy, Jeff, and the second project manager, Fred, were the bright spots. Also, they did a good job on the floor of the bathroom as well.

We recently contracted Progressive Construction to design and finish our basement. We had a total…read moreof 5 estimates before we decided to go with Progressive. Our initial meeting was with the actual Project Manager who was very knowledgeable and obviously experienced in the basement finishing process. He walked us through options, took notes, and then drew the entire basement (measuring every single wall). At this point, we had a pretty good idea we were going to go with them! We asked why he spent so much time measuring as the other companies didn't, and he said "if you want a scaled set of plans and renderings for this project", I need to make sure I measure everything! We received our estimate the same day (though he said 72 hours) and though it was on the higher end of the pricing it was not out of our reach. After some tweaking and refining of the drawings we proceeded with the project. Our project manager got us through this project in about 12 weeks and we couldn't be more pleased. The project wasn't perfectly executed but ANY issues were addressed immediately and quickly resolved by our seemingly 24 hour on call project manager. The final product was an immaculate piece of art and honestly, Progressive was able to exceed our expectations regarding the finished product. We plan to use them for any home improvement project they are willing to do for us. We will even call for the little things because once a customer always a customer (this is what someone on the reference told us!) With less than a month to complete, he got everything done with a few days to spare. It wasn't an easy remodel either; he lifted the HVAC higher into the attic (8'+ up), added a half bath bathroom, and changed the framing of our attic to make it more of a loft and spacious. Ultimately, it was gorgeous! My family owns a commercial construction company, and they are all impressed with how well done and professional it looks. FCR didn't skimp on any materials, and the hardwood/bathroom look great. If I ever get another renovation in ATL, I'm only going with FCR as it's hard to find good contractors. Thank you again FCR!

The HVAC and basement encapsulation work was subcontracted to Vis Viva Energy Services, who then hired two additional subcontractors to perform the bulk of the HVAC work. Communications between the Sawhorse VP/Project Manager, Justin McAusland, and Vis Viva was poor. On the first day of the project, Vis Viva began to re-use existing ductwork during the installation. Working from home, I caught the mistake and the NEW ductwork that was contracted for was installed. 7 years later, I found out that the condensate drain pan for the attic heat pump installed by Vis Viva was too small, resulting in damage to the living room ceiling below when the system leaked. 2. Howard, responsible for the ductwork/HVAC sealing (this was a newer service that Sawhorse was offering) did a good job overall, but made a simple mistake (improperly sealing the vents in each room during multiple HVAC leak tests) that resulted in continued testing, chasing "leaky" new ductwork, for several weeks, maybe a couple of months, beyond the initial time estimate. Vern eventually caught the mistake, and did a great job throughout the entire project. 3. I was quoted $2,775.60 for a hybrid, electric/heat pump hot water heater (materials sourced by Vis Viva, and installed by the plumbing sub-contractor) that ended up being significantly more than the same exact model I found at Lowes ($1,173.91 delivered with a 5-year extended warranty... that number doesn't include installation). I understand adding labor for the plumbing contractor and a 10% general contractor markup, but not the $1,600 additional that I was quoted/almost charged. Justin did return the materials that Vis Viva ordered, and ended up purchasing the hot water heater on my behalf at Lowes for the lower cost. Again... I'd expect my general contractor to provide competitive pricing the first time, without me having to check. 3. Justin appeared to be taxed, managing multiple projects. One day, he dropped off a sealant to be used in the waterproofing/drainage system at the back of the house that was clearly marked, "do NOT use under grade." When I brought this up, he was confrontational, condescending, and argumentative. Matt was brought in to help resolve the situation, and we ended up using proper materials for the task that I found with the help of a local distributor... again, work/management that I should not have had to do. 4. Matt, after I signed the contract, was largely absent from the day-to-day management activities of the project. IMO, for the premium that Matt/Sawhorse was charging, I should not have had to stay on top of Justin and Vis Viva the way I did, and the quality of the project management and technical competence should have been much higher. 5. The electrical, plumbing, drywall, and flooring subcontractors were great.
