The ribs were wonderfully tender and tasty which is why I came. The side portion of baked beans was a little small but they were delicious. After questioning the waitress about the desserts I settled on the banana pudding which was exquisite. The seating is comfortable and not too crowded. VERY good and friendly service! My Buffalo Mac was DELICIOUS!!! I tried my daughters Hawg Hash and I'd have been pretty damn happy if I'd ordered it too! The only thing a bit lacking was the chicken that my SIL got. It was a bit dry, and they don't let you pick which BBQ sauce to put on it. They put the sweeter one on, and both he and I felt like we'd have liked it better with their other BBQ sauce instead. Other than that we enjoyed our meal and visit here very much. I have read and researched Hawg n Sauce for a while as I moved to the area. Tonight was the night to make my way to Mt. Vernon to try it. The joint was pretty busy when I arrived and there is a lot of outdoor seating. I prefer inside though. The place was much bigger than I thought. My entree tonight was the St. Louis Ribs. I have to give the ribs a mixed review. They were pretty tough to chew especially on the ends. They did taste good though. There are 3 sauces and all of them were marvelous. The most unique was the citrus Chipotle. There is another called schweet tang which was a sweet and spicy ketchup base. Then the original was called hawg n Sauce and had a more mild, lightly sweet flavor. The best thing on my plate was the hasbrown casserole. I wish I could describe it adequately besides saying it blows Cracker Barrel's out of th water. I had slaw as my other side which was a mix of creaminess and vinegar. Sweet tea was good for Indiana. It is fresh-brewed. It wasn't very sweet for my Alabama tongue. I would eat at Hawg n Sauce again. The hashbrown casserole is definitely something everyone should eat there and all the sauces were superb. I had to work on my ribs too much to really enjoy them though. read more

10 years ago, this spot was great. Yes it was pricey, but you could get decent barbecue with your family. Over the last 5 years or so, they retained the pricey food but lost the decency of the barbecue. Its one of the only places in Mount Vernon to dine, but I honestly would rather just drive to Evansville to get barbecue at this point. My food was dry and felt like it was days old and reheated. I will not be returning to hang n sauce until they smoke their meat same day or atleast the same week. Please make your food fresh. The servers and workers are INCREDIBLE and extremely nice, other than that the place is not good. read more

A friend and I walked in and we were seated promptly. That's about all the good! We sat there and watched as other people were seated, waited on, and some even got their food and we never even placed a drink order. I have never used the R word, but to get no service at all, what am I supposed to think but racism? We were the only Hispanics there and were the only ones not getting any kind of service.we were there for 20-30 minutes and nothing! Absolutely horrible! Someone once said that there is bbq that needs sauce and bbq that doesn't...the bbq at Hawg N Sauce needs sauce to taste its best. I have had.the pulled pork on a potato and as a sandwich and it's pretty good. I've also had the brisket and it wasn't very good-no real seasoning and a little tough. I got the smoked pork chop with mashed potatoes and white gravy, fried okra, and rye bread. The smoked pork chop had a very good flavor. It was not large in diameter but was probably about 1 1/2 inches thick. You have the option of getting the platter with one or two pork chops so that's nice. The fried okra was done well-good flavor and not slimy. The mashed potatoes were basic as was the bread. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich with fries and green beans. The meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The fries were very good. The green beans were decent. She got her meal with a dinner roll. The restaurant was nice and clean. Country decor with old country vinyl on the walls which I liked. The staff and waitress were friendly and attentive. That ditch that's adjacent to the restaurant? I lived in that. I swam in it. I drank the water. I ate the muskrats I found in there. And I was ashamed. But now I am a high-powered lawyer in one of the most prestigious law firms in Mount Vernon. Only because the city used a couple animal control people to bring me out--unwillingly. This is a real gem tucked outside of Mt. Vernon. They have really great BBQ- They have an outside area for bands such as Colt Ford, Craig Campbell, Dylan Scott and Chris Lane to name a few..... We arrived at lunch time on a Wednesday and were greeted by smiles, welcomes and a packed house. My father had babybacks and I had the small pulled pork sandwich. They are prepared to satisfy the had working man's appetite. Both of us took half our lunch home. My pulled pork was tender, moist and lean. The sauce was just enough and both sauces were on the table. Loved it. Smokey, little bark and rich porkey goodness. Everything you would expect from the finest Carolina shoulder style bbq. Dad really enjoyed those ribs, in a Kansas City style. Ribs are the standard by which he measures all bbq and they passed with flying colors. Would I recommend? YES! I can't get good bbq at home. Bf and I had been meaning to get here since FOREVER because we had tried some delicious hawg and sauce bbq sauce at the grocery store. WELL GUESS WHAT? Today we finally did and we were NOT disappointed. On our way to Mt Vernon to pick up my brother to dine with us, my bf and I had settled on getting brisket and ribs. The entryway is a little confusing so when we came in we went to the wrong place but the nice young lady checking someone out with their takeout order didn't make us wait and sorted us and we were corrected and at the hostess station within seconds. Our waitress was a great person and we just loved her, she did a great job up-selling us but it wasn't hard I'm sure. We got a half of the special app to split, my brother got the chicken fried steak, my boyfriend got the full rack baby back ribs, and I got the beef brisket. Everyone tried everything. It was ALL delicious. We were then not hard to sell on AT LEAST taking dessert home. My brother had his in house. When my brother's arrived his looked so good I was sold on taking a piece of his home too. I can't imagine any of it being nasty though. My brother had no complaints but I cant comment on the desserts, sorry. Can't wait to go back. But can't do it again soon because lord, the weight we'd gain! read more
