It was my mother's birthday…read moreso I wanted to have flowers delivered and Kathy helped provide the details and had the housekeepers open the unit prior to our arrival so that they were there and waiting for us. The unit was excellent. Very clean. Close to shopping and restaurants. Granite counter tops, a W/D in the unit, large living space, and an excellent view. The only negative I can think of is that the pool and lazy river aren't heated . Other available amenities like the restaurant, fitness room, excursion desk, etc. are great. This is the first time we've rented a condo instead of staying at a hotel but are already planning our next visit to Kauai and will be using Kauai Calls to rent a unit in the same complex.

I reserved four days at Lea Nani in Kauai via Kauai Calls and Tina Funk. Today my son broke his…read moreknee and will need surgery. The surgeon says my son cant travel for at least a month after surgery. I emailed the doctor's letter to Kaui Calls and Tina Funk. Our reservation is 23 days from today. The policy at Kaui Calls is you can cancel your reservation up to a month ahead. They offer travel insurance which I was stupid enough not to take. I know this was a big mistake. We are eight days beyond their 30 day deadline. But they won't make an exception and the person on the phone keeps saying " we can't we can't". This reservation is at peak time for Kauai and they have three weeks to fill it. I realize they don't have to be compromising, and they aren't. I am also in the rental business and when someone's child needs surgery I make the exception.

With NCL excursions, we would have had to give one of those things up (they don't offer the tubing) and it was prohibitively expensive.I reached out to Elena at Kauai Island Shuttles. she offered us transportation for both days with a tour guide for considerably less than NCL would have charged us. Our guide Dennis was waiting for us at the pier when we docked, drove us to the tubing appointment we'd made on our own and then picked us up after for sightseeing on the North Shore for the rest of the day. He was back again early the next morning and got us to Waimea Canyon before the tour buses got there so we could enjoy the views in peace. We hit a few more stops on the way back to the ship and made it back well before all aboard.

We rented unit 325 at Lae Nani resort, Kauai and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT OR ALOHA BEACH VACATION…read moreMANAGEMENT CO.! We have rented at Lae Nani for almost 20 years and the resort is amazing and beautiful but not this unit. It was dirty, black mold in the shower, broken lounge chairs, dirty broken fans, torn lamp shades, lanais which hadn't been swept or washed, various broken items including no working TV for 10 days! Aloha Beach vacations is based in Tennessee not Hawaii even though he uses many alohas. I was told no one from Aloha Beach Vacations had been at our unit in 5 months. They have no support staff on the island except a house keeper and a handy man who only "helps out when not busy". Therefore if anything goes wrong you are kindave on your own. Upon arriving there was a couple of large black sticky spots in front of the door that were tar like. I was worried about tracking it in. I called and the housekeeper came back and cleaned it up. Both lanais were so dirty my feet were disgusting so I immediately swept the porches when we first arrived and wiped off the outdoor lounge chair which you couldn't really use until cleaned. First day the large wooden door shutters in the bedroom sliding door wouldn't shut. A person did come the next morning to fix it but had no key so we needed to return to let them in. Next day we realized the tv in the living room and the bedroom were not working. There was a very tiny TV in the kitchen which was working. The living room tv wouldn't turn on it had no power. The person at Aloha didn't believe us and they had no one to come check it out so we were told to use the tv in the kitchen and he would set an appointment with the cable technician and we needed to be there when he came. At this point I should have just said forget it, but I didnt. We waited 6 days for the cable person to come at 8 am to inform us of what we knew already that the TV was broken. Two days later we were told that were lucky they would get us a new TV and the handyman could come the next morning at 8AM. I said that wouldn't work it would need to be at 9 or later after we had gone. I was then told he couldn't guarantee I would get a TV if that was my request. He called back later and said someone would come in two days. When the Handyman arrived with the TV at 8:45 we were still there an he asked if we could just set up the TV ourselves. We said no but we would help, which we did. It took 10 days to get a working TV after helping set it up. we were thankful it was just a TV and not the dishwasher, water heater,etc. because I can assure you it would be a similar situation. This Vacation rental agency has no NO ONE ON THE ISLAND TO TAKE CARE OF ANYTHING OTHER THAN HOUSE CLEANING! We were expected to participate and help take care of all service issues that arose which were several. When I suggested some kind've compensation for having no large central TV all of our vacation he actually laughed at me and said you have got to be kidding, offering nothing and no real apologies! Please do visit Lae Nani and use the several vacation agencies available on Kauai, but ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE ALOHA BEACH VACATIONS!

I wanted to ride an ATV since I missed my chance when my friends rode them at Pismo Beach. What better way to start your vacation in Hawaii, with an off road adventure! You book the tour through this group, and they send you information on where to meet the day of the ATV tour. The tour my friends and I selected was Ride the Rim Waipio Valley ATV Tour (http://www.hawaiifuntours.com/big-island/land-tours/atv-tours/ and https://www.ridetherim.com/tour.html). It's about 3 hours+ for the ride and you get to drive across land that is not open to the public unless you take an ATV tour or horseback riding tour. The price has increased only by a few dollars since two years ago, pretty impressive considering inflation. I don't remember how I managed to get 10% off for booking though. In 2009, it was $155, today it's $159. The tour guides have pretty interesting stories of the culture and their personal experiences, which is pretty cool. Light refreshments were provided at the scenic point waterfall. It's pretty neat to drive through patches of eucalyptus and ginger forests, and seeing the twin waterfalls. The day we went, it had rained the day before so the ground had puddles of water that were super fun to ride through! There was even a moment where I freaked out because I thought my ATV was "overheating," but it was just the puddle water that made my vehicle steam (not a big deal they said =). It's really easy to drive an ATV, even an older couple in their 60's joined our tour. At first the wife was hesitant, but after the experience, she was so glad that she decided to participate!

This is a home on the island of Kauai, but not just a home. It's a wildlife reserve, a paradise, an estate, a Hawaiian paradise. My mom got remarried back in 2003, and her husband took her to Lakeside Estate for their month-long honeymoon. She invited my boyfriend of the time and I to join them for a weekend in the huge house and it was the best 3 day trip of my life. It has it's own private lake, a 3-hole golf course, a waterfall, a tiny white-sand beach (on the lake), a rainforest, and pretty much every amenity you could want on your tropical vacation. I'm sure it's expensive as hell, but I wasn't paying. As far as the location...well yes, it would be nice if it was actually on a beach. But you have a little beach of your own, and all of Kauai's fabulous beaches are just short drives away. You are ten minutes from Princeville (shops, resorts, restaurants, etc) and 20 minutes from Hanalei, but set back from the main highway by a private road. Wake up every morning to see what new waterfalls have appeared on the mountains outside. You'll have to take a look at my pics to fully appreciate the place (and the website). But really, if you can afford it, stay somewhere like this, not a fancy-schmancy overpriced resort. Oh one thing....the geckos were a bit creepy. Ok sort of cute, and harmless, but they cover the windows at night and bark at you. But other than that, perfect.

He took us to the BEST lunch, we were all super happy with it (Tony's Catch food truck fyi) and the island is just spectacular. One thing we appreciated is that he didn't just take us to look at beautiful sites, he explained the history and significance of them. It was such a good experience. Our only disappointment was that we only had the one day and wish we could've done his second day tour! I guess we will have to visit again :) We highly recommend this!
