A section of the trail that smelled like fresh flowers and the woods! Perfection!

If you follow me, you know that my daughter and I LOVE TO HIKE! We found this gem close to a place we dog/house sit. This place is loaded with fun/educational growth opportunities for families, couples, friends, and singles! Be sure to check out their website for continually awesome upcoming events! The trails were fun! Mostly in the shade, they can be enjoyed all summer long! Definitely in the winter months! Stop off at the front desk and chat with the very nice lady about all the opportunities they provide! This gem should not be a secret!!! MOST SINCERELY!!!

I was really impressed and surprised with this state park! I was merely expecting another simple place like nearby Mayo River. However, Haw River has an entire spread of an outdoor education and convention center. I think it's amazing what they're doing here. There are "cabins" but it's more like a cabin-inspired, stilted hotel. They seem to be very nice and high quality. There are trails, but admittedly a bit confusing. I visited on a rainy day and there was a lot of mud and standing water on the trail I took. When you're not on the boardwalk, expect to get wet. I'd advise bringing good boots even if it's a few days after rain. The center, the parking lots, the buildings all seem well taken care of. Staff and rangers are very friendly as usual. And perhaps just happy to have visitors on a cold, rainy fall day.

The Great Blue Heron Loop trail at the Iron Ore Belt Access of the Haw River State Park is an easy (they call it moderate) 3.9 mile round trip hike that offers a variety of nature's beauty for a day hiker to see and hear. The trail is fairly well maintained and reasonably wide with shoulders you can easily veer into to allow for easy social distancing if you are into that sort of thing. The woods throughout the trail are mostly open, allowing one to see a pretty good distance through them. You will also pass by a sizable wetland that is teeming with life. I did not see many animals, save for a squirrel or two, but I heard and saw a great many birds, including cardinals and woodpeckers. I was impressed with the number of wildflowers that I saw, especially for a wooded trail. I saw Big Leaf Periwinkle, Golden Ragwort, Annual Fleabane, Carolina Allspice, Eastern Blue Star, Dwarf Crested Iris, Perfoliate Bellwort, Wild Geranium, Green and Gold, and Fire Pink. That is quite a list! If you are looking for an easy day hike (and there is a picnic table or two along the way if you are making it a family outing, but I wouldn't know how to tell ahead of time if someone is already at those tables) in the Piedmont Triad, this is a good one. There is no beauty in star or blossom 'til looked upon by a loving eye There is no fragrance in April breezes 'til breathed with joy as they wander by -Wm. C. Bryant

Every time I had gone, I had gone to the center part and never went to any other part. The event…read morecenter is really nice. I've never been to the pool, but it looks like it is really fun compared to other pools I've seen. I finally went behind the center to the pond and lake, and they were so amazing. I went fishing out there, and in the pond, there was actually a lot to catch. We threw it back, but it was still fun for my first official time! It's actually relaxing out there. I do wish they would take better care of the pond though because there's a lot of algae out there.

My experiences with Bur-Mil over the years have been mainly to use the golf practice facilities,…read morebut I always see a lot of people enjoying the aquatic center and pool, lake, walking the trails, or using the event center. This is truly a full service park! That said, my review will focus mainly on the golf portions, with the park overall being a solid 5, and a must use for anyone in the Greensboro area. The driving range is just what you want and nothing more. A big open field to hit balls into, no frills, and also at a cheaper price than average. This is all I need, and all just about anyone would need at an amateur level. Distances are marked, and since it is pretty flat, you'll get a good idea for how far and straight you are hitting what. It's a popular place to practice, especially after typical work hours. The par 3 course... wellllll... it is less of a golf course, more of a hilly open area with some cutouts that would indicate a "green." There are 9 holes, the longest of which is about 130 yards, so no need to bring many clubs with you. The greens are about as rough as they get. There really isn't much of a putting surface. Too many weeds, and it's cut too long to get a realistic roll, I actually don't bother putting, because it isn't going to be good practice. There is also usually goose poop landmined around the course, the greens are no exception. The greens are also very small, none of which would be more than 25 feet in diameter, if that. The way I usually play, sticking the green from the tee is a birdie. Chipping up within about 5-8 feet is par. Anything outside of that, bogey. All this critique given, it was less than 10 bucks to play, really as much as you'd like. It does help you work on your short irons and wedges, and for that, I enjoy it and will return. Also, cheap beers in the clubhouse are just 2 bucks!

My mom wanted to check out a park while we were in Greensboro visiting. My brother found this…read morereally quiet park in the area. It was absolutely gorgeous. We loved all the colorful flowers and little creeks the park had to offer. It worked out well too that they have a lot of seating benches to sit on and rest my knee too. The park was built in the early 1900s and they have maintained it pretty well. There are some beautiful homes nearby to it and churches. It was nice to see during Easter Sunday the amount of families that were walking to services or leaving and walking through here. It is definitely a hidden gem to check out!

My college days have long been gone and wealthy I've never been And tho Dunleath Historical is where I bought, it's Fisher Park I dreamed of living in. For years and years at 7:00 a.m. I've donned my coat and hat and had my walk through Fisher Park, cuz baby that's where it's at!! The park is lush and evergreen with trails so easy to explore. And if you want to sit and rest, there are benches and rocks galore The park feels untouched and natural even though it's groomed by a neighborhood team. It's the place I go to not only walk but to meditate and dream. It's mini bridges made of stone are so beautiful to behold. I run my fingers through the stream. The water is clean and crisp but cold! There's a playground there with slide and swing for the kiddies to have a blast. There are majestic trees and historic homes to remind us of our past It's users are an interesting bunch. You never know what you will see. It might be a photographer shooting a wedding or a dog taking a pee! Just a few minutes walk from the downtown scene. This park is a gem to behold. I hope that God is good to me and I can come here even when I'm old. So next time when you need an escape and long for the sound of a lark, grab a cup of coffee, sit on a bridge and fall in love with Fisher Park!
