I've never been to the pool, but it looks like it is really fun compared to other pools I've seen. I finally went behind the center to the pond and lake, and they were so amazing. I went fishing out there, and in the pond, there was actually a lot to catch. We threw it back, but it was still fun for my first official time! It's actually relaxing out there. I do wish they would take better care of the pond though because there's a lot of algae out there.

This is truly a full service park! That said, my review will focus mainly on the golf portions, with the park overall being a solid 5, and a must use for anyone in the Greensboro area. The driving range is just what you want and nothing more. A big open field to hit balls into, no frills, and also at a cheaper price than average. This is all I need, and all just about anyone would need at an amateur level. Distances are marked, and since it is pretty flat, you'll get a good idea for how far and straight you are hitting what. It's a popular place to practice, especially after typical work hours. The par 3 course... wellllll... it is less of a golf course, more of a hilly open area with some cutouts that would indicate a "green." There are 9 holes, the longest of which is about 130 yards, so no need to bring many clubs with you. The greens are about as rough as they get. There really isn't much of a putting surface. Too many weeds, and it's cut too long to get a realistic roll, I actually don't bother putting, because it isn't going to be good practice. There is also usually goose poop landmined around the course, the greens are no exception. The greens are also very small, none of which would be more than 25 feet in diameter, if that. The way I usually play, sticking the green from the tee is a birdie. Chipping up within about 5-8 feet is par. Anything outside of that, bogey. All this critique given, it was less than 10 bucks to play, really as much as you'd like. It does help you work on your short irons and wedges, and for that, I enjoy it and will return. Also, cheap beers in the clubhouse are just 2 bucks!

It's about 2 miles total in hiking, so not very grueling, but the terrain does vary quite a bit throughout. The trails are chock full of inclines, declines, and roots to navigate. There is also an "easier" trail (which is considered moderate by trail standards around these parts) and a red marked trail. We stayed on the regular trail with the kids and had a fine time enjoying our stroll through nature. Some areas of the trail are rather narrow, and the entire place is well shaded during the summertime, making this a great place to come even on the hottest and most humid of days. No sunscreen needed! While I do have to admit that the "cascade" was a little underwhelming compared to what I had pictured in my mind's eye, the trickling sound of water always makes for the most tranquil of moments. This place is another deserving mention on the list of absolutely beautiful nature places to check out in the Triad!

For just $6 you can bring your own kayak, SUP, or canoe to launch on their sandy little beach. Or you can rent one of their kayaks. Even on weekends with decent weather I've seen them mostly available on the spot. There are also options for an annual pass, fishing, and even a paved ramp to put in motorized boats. You could also very easily just sit and relax here by the waterside or stroll around. But if you want to get on the lake, this is the prime spot. Bird watching along the shoreline is great from the vantage point of the kayak. With a vast array of birdsong to ID, you can even see kingfishers ducking, diving, and doing anything to ruin your chances of proving they exist with a photograph. But at least you can enjoy a quiet and relaxing float to ease the soul.

Haw River State Park is like no other NC state park. We had a great time!…read more All 5 trails are clearly marked and our kept clear (so you can see where the trail is). The Great Blue Heron trail is 3.2 miles and has mile markers along the way to tell you how far you've gone, and takes you deep into the wilderness. You have to take the .4 mile connector trail to get to it. They have a wetlands boardwalk that takes you to the Haw River viewpoint. The viewpoint is small and the river is nearly standstill, but still is beautiful. The lake look trail takes you around the lake (obviously) and you can catch some turtles swimming in the lake! We saw one on a log. The piedmont loop trail is the perfect length to walk with your dog or small children. Mosquitoes are bad, but aren't aggressive (they just like to stay in clusters along the trail). In May there were zero biting flies like horseflies or yellow flies. It may be a bit of a challenge to park something big in here like an RV, but it's doable. The visitor center is at the summit access point, and is connected to the conference center. Restrooms are clean, and staff are kind!!

This national park site is tucked neatly woven into the green belt of Greensboro. Right off of the…read morecity's Greenway, it's not even out of the question to bike to and from here. In my case, I live close enough to actually walk/run here and back. While there is a paved loop through the entire park which features an audio guide and numbered stops, it's actually a wonderful place to walk. In fact it feels almost European in sentiment as I rarely ever see cars driving through and more often see people walking, running, or biking. The park office and facilities are generally a bit outdated, but very informative about the park and the associated history of the American revolution connected to this place. There's a gift shop and daily staff there to answer any questions you may have. And the park teaches you perhaps the most important point: why the city took on the name of Greensboro. But I'll let you all visit and figure that one out for yourselves.

This is apparently a Revolutionary War site, and one that did not ring any bells for me as a…read morenon-historian. And yet, on a weekday morning, the place was packed. Apparently it is a popular hangout for locals in need of exercise (or with a dog). I got an extensive introduction in the visitor center, and after a brief perusal of indoor exhibits I walked the main loop. It had a variety of memorials and historical placards. The indoor exhibit also had placards, but these were supplemented by some hastily printed and taped on cards saying things like "additional context needed" while in most cases adding very little. Whoever came up with them probably thinks they are very smart, but I found the whole thing bizarre and best ignored. The trails are mostly paved, and offer a nice shaded walk on a hot day. I did not watch the historical documentaries, but they may be worthwhile. There is no entrance fee for the site.
