Stefanie was our doula and she went with us from the Atlanta Birth Center to the Medical Center. We had a 50 hour labor from start to finish and she was there for the entire labor. We had a great labor experience with Stefanie and I am looking forward to recommending her to everyone I know in the Atlanta area. I think I would have tapped out at around 24 hour mark if it was not for her comfort and support during labor. I highly recommend this doula team. Our midwife team was also impressed with their talent and professionalism.

Upon first meeting we hit it off so well but I'm a slight introvert so her first time arriving to my home to help I was nervous and didn't really know what to expect but sure enough she showed up with a smile and some comfort for me and my kiddos. Day 1 she came with some toy dinosaurs for my older (2yo) to play with- I thought it was the sweetest gesture to think of him. We interviewed a few doulas and decided to work with Melissa because she brought the most experience and professionalism to the job. Not only was she able to bring her extensive knowledge of pregnancy and birthing to all of my questions, she also, when appropriate, could chime in with her personal experience as a mother. While I was pregnant and after my son was born, Melissa was always available to answer any questions and address my many worries as they came up. What I have really valued was that she was proactive- she would reach out frequently just to make sure things were going ok. This was especially helpful in the weeks after birth as I was struggling with breastfeeding and being a new mom in general, and Melissa was able to be a sounding board for all of my concerns. I always know that I can reach out to her with seemingly trivial questions and have her validate my concerns, listen, suggest solutions, or provide additional information. Finally, Melissa was wonderful during the birth! When things started to go off plan, Melissa helped me think through and feel comfortable with what was happening. During the labor, I will never forget Melissa's cool hands and soothing words swooping in to calm both me and my husband. Somehow, in the middle of helping me labor, she was also able to take pictures on her phone of the whole birth, and the first moments of our son's life, that we will cherish forever. After the birth, she was there to help me breastfeed for the first time and stayed with us until we were ready to go to the recovery room. I recommend Melissa to anyone who is looking for a doula!

When we first met I could not have imagined what a difference she would make. During my pregnancy she was always available to discuss even my most crazy concern and comfort me. During my labor she arrived at our house and literally cut my pain in half with her techniques. She was our rock, adviser, teacher, older sister at times, motherly at others, advocate, and friend and this all came out even more at the hospital. She reassured me, encouraged me, and challenged me to push myself even more when I needed her to and was always there wiping my brow, helping hubby to be as involved as possible and helping us make the most of our birth. She has experience with all types of moms and deliveries. Young, old, first, fourth, VBAC, and anything else you can throw at her and will adapt for any situation to what you and your family need. I have talked with several friends she also doula-ed for and she seemed to have a different experience with each of us based on our needs but everyone has agreed she made our birth even better. I know she helped make my Natural VBA2C just what my family needed. After labor my husband even said we're not having another baby without Talitha! But it was still extremely pleasant. I'd do it all over again. It was At home birth with our midwife. Second birth was at Atlanta Birth Center... I'd want to say it was better then the first mentally because it was known what was coming. First time was the unknown. Pictures Emily took were perfect her energy is EVERYTHING! It's alot dealing with birth period, and Emily made me feel like my family was with me. If not better, because she's a professional. Love them! Perfection. Though I was encouraged to write a review immediately following my baby's birth, I wanted to take…read moretime to allow my emotions to settle. I am almost a year postpartum and can confidently state that I would not recommend this doula if you are planning for a spontaneous labor. My estimated due date was in the middle of April. One of the questions I asked prior to choosing this doula was whether there was a back up doula readily available if needed and was told yes. So, by the time I was weeks past my due date, two things should have happened: 1. The back up doula should have been on call because it would mean I would go into labor any minute now. 2. As a first-time mom, I should have been physically checked in on the moment I even HINTED at feeling contractions. Neither of those things occurred. In fact, the doula was less than 5 minutes away from me at the local hospital I ended up being rushed to in an ambulance. Instead of stopping by after being with her previous client, she went home due to a graduation she wanted to watch online. I wanted so badly to be strong like I was advised to be by this doula and my midwives, but I paid to have a doula who would be by my side and she was not. I later spoke with my midwives to understand what went wrong and they informed me that because I had a doula, they assumed the doula was with me and would tell them when it was time. So when they kept hearing from my husband and not my doula, they just assumed I was in early labor and that's why they didn't feel the pressure to tell me to come to the birth center. They were relying completely on my doula to relay to them when it was time. I am so so so so thankful to God that all is well. I am still shaken by the stories I come across where it went left for others. When we met at the hospital after the birth, she was not catering to me. Instead personal issues were raised like being fatigued and missing the graduation and there was very little focus on me and the baby. I paid for postpartum visits that were never brought up or discussed and never done. I paid in full and did not receive any form of a refund. I did reach out to her personally and received an apology. But, as a pregnant black woman, I was scared of the medical system and I invested in a doula to be there for me and she was not. Her services were not worth the investment and it has turned me away from ever getting a doula ever again. So, where she may be good for a planned c-section birth, I would never recommend her for a spontaneous labor for a birth center birth.
