Nikki was with us at the hospital for a long and intense labor prior to the birth of our first child. She was an essential part of our team, always offering a new labor position or idea to try when we felt like we were getting "stuck." She was also great about reminding us to think through our preferences regarding our birth plan, especially to do so *prior* to conversations with hospital staff. This helped avoid having to make in-the-moment decisions without a chance to think and talk through our options as a couple. All in all, I can't imagine having done it without her support and guidance. It was absolutely worth it, and we would never think of going through another birth without her. read more

Pam helped us welcome both our children into the world. My goal with both was for drug-free/natural deliveries. We attended Bradley classes with our first pregnancy from Pam and those were helpful at educating my husband and I about what to expect. There were complications with both deliveries and this is where Pam really shined. Despite long-hours, Pam's energy stayed high and alert. She helped me with massage and breathing techniques. Our son was drug-free and our daughter was an induction and epidural. We're grateful for Pam's support through both experiences and especially appreciate the trust and rapport she's established with the hospital staff at Atrium Pineville. I had such a great experience with Nikki as my doula! I asked her to come right after my OB had an internal monitor inserted. She arrived promptly equipped with the skills to help me have a drug free birth. She also assisted my sister in getting some great photos of me and my husband throughout my labor! Shortly after her arrival, I had an ultrasound which they used to determine that my baby was posterior. She was knowledgeable about which positions we should try to try to help her get in a better position. She instructed my husband on how to use my rebozo to sift my belly also. She executed hip squeezes perfectly which really helped me to be more comfortable during the peak of contractions. At one point, i was getting tired and losing stamina, but Nikki was great about keeping me motivated and moving into different positions. Ultimately, my baby's tachycardia was not able to be managed with saline as it had been before. At that time, my doctor came in. He said to avoid a code blue situation, it was time for a csection. Since I did not want to have a third cesarean, I was upset. Seeing how upset I was, Nikki asked if I would like for him to come back and explain how he came to that conclusion better. I agreed. Though I think it was hard to hear a second time, I am thankful that Nikki gave me that opportunity. It really helped me think more clearly and know for sure that it was the best decision in the moment. When I was being prepped for surgery, I thanked Nikki for all of her help and told her she was welcome to leave if she had other obligations to attend to. She replied that she would love to stay to meet our new bundle of joy. That meant a lot to us. I was and am still so thankful for her guidance and emotional support. She told me that i did good when I felt like I failed. I would not have felt like I did everything possible to try to achieve the birth I wanted without Nikki there. She is so knowledgeable and I really appreciated how she prepared us to advocate for ourselves during this process. She accommodating, understanding and so helpful. I wouldn't be able to have a baby without Pam. This review is long overdue, and Pam deserves better than that :) She has helped us deliver all three of our babies naturally, each one a different story! When my OB recommended me to take the Bradley course during my first pregnancy, I called a few different teachers in the area, and felt most energized and excited about natural birthing when talking to Pam. Not knowing much about natural births, I never knew what a doula was for, and didn't think it would be necessary. However, after a friend recommended me to consider having a doula, I decided to ask Pam a few weeks into our Bradley Method classes. My husband and I felt that after getting to know Pam each week through the classes and learning from her about how to birth a child naturally, it made the most sense for us to have her as our doula...and we were so right! Our first baby led me to push for almost 7 hours, and Pam kept me going when I thought I couldn't push anymore. The midwives and my husband said that in the end, it was Pam's voice that I was most in tune with during the toughest part of my labor. My baby came out with her arm next to her head, which made it that much more difficult for me. Even my mother took a backseat behind Pam, and afterwards could not have agreed with me more - we couldn't have done it without her! First baby paved the way for the second baby, and despite Pam having just moved from Charlotte to Georgia, she continuously asked for early signs of labor and came to Charlotte the moment I thought it might be a good idea for her to be there. She stayed in Charlotte for a day before the contractions got stronger, and worked with my husband to get us to the birth center at the perfect time. It was Pam who had to tell the midwife to call the nurse so she could try to be at the birth center in time to deliver the baby. However, even after several reminders, the midwife still didn't call. While Pam does not deliver babies, at least we had her there to support us...the nurse never made it in time! By the time the third baby came around, we moved to Raleigh. Again, Pam, still coming from Georgia, was there the moment we felt it was time. This time, however, it took a few days for the baby to come, and Pam managed both me and my husband's worked with my helped us get there - walks, exercises, naps, and massages. She talked with my husband and I to gauge how we felt, what we wanted and when, and how we could get there. She constantly asked us how would feel most comfortable, whether it was going back to the birth center for another check up, going back home to labor, or doing a little more walking to get the baby out, all while also keeping us on course to do what would help labor along. Pam has been there, not just with us every step of the way in each of our births, but leading us with each step. Not only does she want a successful and healthy birth for you as her client, she also genuinely cares about her you as if you were her own family. I can't have a baby without Pam! read more

My husband and I took the Bradley Method Birth Class taught by Pam. The course was so amazing, and helped us both feel more adequately prepared for our first time birth experience. The class covered all the necessities for pregnancy and birth from proper nutrition for growing a healthy baby, to stretches and exercises necessary to create a strong pelvic floor and stamina for natural birth to relaxation techniques for working with your body during labor rather than against it to understanding all of the stages of labor and what to expect to how vital your partner's role is in the process and teaching him how to truly be your coach. This training helped my husband and I both feel more confident and have a better idea of what to expect throughout the experience. Pam is so helpful, animated, and knowledgeable with so much experience to share and advice to give. We loved the class and her so much that we also asked her to be our Doula! We can't wait to have her and her team's skills and support through our birth experience coming up in 4 more weeks! read more

I'm so thankful that my friend Amanda & her husband Aaron convinced Nick and I to find a doula for our son's "birth" day. I was elated when I discovered that Amanda's doula, Pamela Sauls, would be able to assist us personally. Even from our first conversation, before we decided to proceed, Pam was extremely helpful. She was able to give a me a much more realistic idea of what to expect and what myself and my husband needed to do to prepare. Since I reached out to Pam less than 6 weeks before my due date, Nick and I were not able to attend a full 12 Week Bradley Course. For this reason, she offered a variety of options to fit our busy schedules. Ultimately, we met with she and Nikki Reeves for a Private Workshop. Even before the workshop, Pam spent hours going over and critiquing my birth plan. She was able to teach me so many things I wasn't aware of in regards to various methods used for induction, monitoring, pain management, etc. My husband and I were so excited to meet Pam and Nikki for our workshop. Although we had already taken another Hospital based birth class several months prior, we really felt like we took away so much more from these few hours and had fun in the process. We practiced several positions and went through several scenarios that we would ultimately use during labor. Additionally, Nick felt so much for more informed and at ease with the process and was able to get a good grasp of what was required from him to be a supportive coach. Because I was induced at 37 weeks, we expected the process to be a long one. In the days leading up to induction, Pam spoke with us again as a refresher and gave me lots of tips on how to ripen my cervix. I was so thankful she did because I wasn't starting from scratch, in fact I was actually 1cm dilated in my 1st internal exam. Having said that, from initial induction to the birth of my son, the experience lasted about 34 hours. We knew the 1st day would be a long one so Pam was available to assist over the phone anytime we had questions. Even though she was not physically there, she was so supportive and helped to keep us calm even when we received some disturbing news. At one point, the nurse and midwife mentioned C-Section, but Pam was able to help us navigate this situation with confidence. Nick and I were so happy when Pam and Nikki arrived, bright and early, the following morning. Unfortunately, we received some more upsetting news. Our ultimate goal was to have a low intervention birth without pain medication however because I wasn't progressing at the expected rate, they would have to administer Petocin. I was pretty upset, but Pam and Nikki were able to put my mind at ease. As the day progressed Pam and Nikki helped me to manage pain with some amazing natural methods, got to love that peanut ball and head scratcher!! Their assistance also helped Nick and I to stay in a positive headspace which likely helped more than we realized. Believe it or not, they actually made the process pretty fun and enjoyable. As expected, the last contractions were very difficult for us. I truly believe it would have been much more painful and potentially traumatizing had it not been for Pam and Nikki's care, encouragement, support and guidance. Nick and I definitely agree that hiring Pam and Nikki was one of the best decisions we could have made. We will definitely be using them again and we highly recommend them to anyone that is looking to have the best "birth" day experience possible.
