I'm in the process of considering where to put my grandmother, who doesn't want to leave her small town in Iowa, which breaks my heart. The Rose Blumkin Jewish Home was incredible when I visited. They have thought through all the details. For example, all the residents' doors are painted different colors and have unique lights outside the door. If you've ever gotten lost walking up and down the halls of a nursing home, where every door and every wall looks the same, you can imagine how hard it must be for a person with dementia to find her or her room. They also have multiple dinning room options, so people feel like they have more choice in their life. Plus, the Jewish Academy is on the same campus, so the preschool children are always coming over to the Home and providing a little cheer for the elderly adults. I wish I had an option like this in Nevada, Iowa!

The Recreational Therapy Director Larry was absolutely fabulous! He has so many different things for the residents to do, and every day there's something organized morning, noon, and night! You can tell everyone there truly cares about the people entrusted to their care.
