You will not find a lot of recognizable wineries but instead small producers they have hand picked. It is very easy and casual. They also offer all of the wines for take away with very fair prices.

My partner had to walk 15 minutes to find a bank, and when we complained of the poor attitude to us to the owner he was also very unfriendly. We explained that we should have been told at the beginning about the no card payment, and he said 'well I don't like to interfere in people's business.' Makes no sense because you end up 'interfering' at the end when you want our money. Honestly, if at least the servers were a bit friendlier, that hiccup wouldn't have been too bad. But literally one of them said to us, 'this is Germany!' when we told her we wished she'd have told us about the payment method in advance. We've eaten at other restaurants in Germany, and they've accepted card... so thanks for that. For the mediocre food, it's just not worth it to deal with the poor service. Be friendly and human or don't work in the business - simple!

The crust is a bit crunchy, but not too dry and the dough can even stand some garlic oil without getting soggy. My favorites pies here are the Diavolo (onions, tomatoes, jalapeno) and the Tomato-Mozzarella (topped with said garlic oil after it comes out of the oven). They also offer some pasta dishes and salads. The veggie lasagna is really good and not very heavy at all. The staff (owners) is super friendly. Good spirited, they are always up for some jokes. Definitely a favorite of mine back when I still used to live in the area.

The posted menu outside the restaurant is promising, but doesn't yet tell the whole story. Step in the door, and you will notice that everyone else in the place is a local. The gentlemen of the Stammtisch are playing cards in the corner. In the other room an extended family is celebrating Opa's birthday. The place is fairly crowded, but none of the other guests are eating. Normally in a place that seems more bar than restaurant we'd beware the food, but the menu includes trout, perch, and haunch of rabbit, so we take the plunge. The waitress brings a complementary bread basket with slices of fresh-baked, steaming hot herbed bread and delicately flavored butters. The sauce on the fish is complex, fragrant and flavorful. After living in Germany for seven years, we don't expect to find the kind of steak an American or an Aussie prefers, but my husband's steak is perfect: charred and peppered on the outside, beautifully rare inside, and hot through. Its unprepossessing appearance notwithstanding, and der Poort is gracious, welcoming, and cheerful, and the kitchen proffers dishes prepared with a deft and skillful hand.
