Expect lines, but anything good is worth the wait. With that said, the line at Haunted Overload can also be more fun than some Haunted Houses. Actors roam the line looking to get you before you go in. The detailed woodwork is absolutely spectacular. This place puts in serious effort in the settings, and not just in the fall. I'd love to see this place in the Winter, even without the Haunted Attraction. Haunted Overload is Absolutely #1 in New England. Worth the drive, worth the wait. read more

I loved, loved, loved this. It was exactly the Halloweenie type of thing I was hoping for this year. It was our first year and we scream-laughed through the whole thing (after excessive screaming you start to laugh, fun fact). It's a shame I probably won't be near the area for it again year after year. A few tips: -There is NO way to get in if tickets are sold out. We tried absolutely everything possible, short of sneaking around the back. You will be turned away AT THE DOOR if you don't have a ticket (i.e., you won't even be able to stop at the store for cider). -Pick an early slot: the actors do get tired over the course of the night and the line gets longer and longer. You'll be much better off getting the earlier time and arriving early. -Try to give others time to go ahead of you. If people are too close together, the actors will only scare the ones at the front and you'll get by without any scares, and that's not fun. -Take your TIME! There is so much to see in every section, it's worth spending the extra seconds inspecting nooks and crannies to get in the mood :) Follow these tips and I guarantee the Haunted Overload will be worth the entry fee! So I've been to dozens of haunted houses over the past few years things including a good handful of the different "Top 13s" on the east coast. Big fancy ones (Universal Horror Nights, Headless Horseman, Bates Motel, etc.) to little local ones (Barrett's Mansion, Foxboro Jaycees...). Last Saturday I headed up from Boston to check out Haunted Overload with a couple of friends, their 14 year old daughter and her friend. The Haunted Overload folks just do excellent work. They're bringing a level of creativity that's better than anything else I've seen anywhere (with possible exception of Blackout in NYC, but that's a completely different adults-only thing those guys are doing...). Haunted Overload fits together with a really nice vibe - they "get it" in a way most of the bigger budget places don't usually seem to. So much cooler to have all the DIY stuff instead of a bunch of rubber corpses, fake blood and animatronics. The fog, the pumpkins, the trees, the woods, the sounds - it all comes together the way a good painting does. A really good spooky Halloween feel. And plenty of scares. Good ones beyond the standard just jump-out-and-say-boo stuff. The kids loved it and screamed through most of it. It's well managed, too. When we went at 8:30 on Sat we heard a security guy saying it was the longest line he had seen. But the wait was reasonable at a half hour or so with different costumed HO people come by to talk to us or scare us. And the pace inside was great no one rushed us and it wasn't any problem to let other people go by. So we got max scares. Where they really knocked it out of the park, though, was with the Tickles. If they gave Oscars for Best Performance in a Haunted Attraction, he'd have it nailed. He absolutely terrified my friend while at the same time making her (kind of) laugh. I was in hysterics watching it. Never seen anything better from a haunted house performer. Her comment in note she sent to me a few days later: "That guy is brilliant. Terrifying in exactly the right way. Perfect ending to a real other world." Since she scared her so much, I found an email address for Eric, the guy who runs HO and asked him if he could put me in touch with the guy who plays Tickles. Got a super-fast response from Eric, got in touch with Tickles/Bill and in no short order Tickles is giving my friend a call on Halloween night and scaring the shit out of her _again_! Gotta love the scare that keeps on giving... So anyways, good times were had by all and I think it's cool that the best haunted house around is pretty much in my backyard. I have been wanted to see this haunt for years even way back when it was just a tiny home haunt. I decided this year was the year I was going to make the trek from Central Pennsylvania to Lee, NH. I was not disappointed! If you've been to haunted houses then i promise you have never seen anything like Haunted overload. Massive monsters and sets made from the natural woods in which it resides fill this outdoor walk through. The actors are great and there was plenty of screaming going on. I came on their opening weekend on a Friday night and loved it so much I came back the next night instead of doing some other tourist type activity during my stay a half hour away in Portsmouth, NH. If you get a chance then do go. It's both scary and gorgeous to behold, and there's lots of Fall stuff to buy from the farm store where it resides like apple cider, apples, and these damn big chocolate spiders filled with peanut butter; seriously, they were as big as my damn hand. The design of some of the structures here is great, there is no denying that. However, after driving from Boston there was a 2 hour wait just to enter. Once we entered - it seemed most of the actors had left for the night. The ones that were there had already checked out. Nobody jumped out at us all but a couple lacked enthusiasm. I get it, it's cold and you've probably been out here for hours - but if this place is charging entry than they better make sure it is up to par for all of its paying guests. After hearing good things about this place I was extremely disappointed, it was the worst that haunt I have ever been to. All in all a very frustrating waste of a night. Check it out if it's in your backyard, but don't waste your time traveling here. read more

I was so impressed by Haunted Overload. I love Halloween and it felt like walking into the Halloween Town in Nightmare Before Christmas. My group stood in line for over an hour but the aura was so fun that it felt like part of the attraction. There were plenty of characters roaming around. Once we got inside it was amazing. The quality of the place is top notch. Walking into the giant green glowing tree was like stepping into another world. I highly suggest that any lover of Halloween thrills checks this place out. It made Spooky World and Witch's Woods (and most other haunted attractions in New England) look amateur and cheap. I am already excited for next year! read more

This haunt has won multiple awards over the years and has been featured in dozens of Halloween material nation wide. It is true what people say, Haunted Overload strives for something most other haunts just don't seem to get. I like to think of it more like walking into World of Halloween. While other haunts seem to focus more on horror aspects (which is fine by me) these guys make you feel like you're traveling through the spirit of what is "Scary". Weather you scare easily or not this place is going to leave an impression on you. Not scared by 3 evil rednecks surrounding you with chainsaws? Doesn't matter when you look up and realize your walking under a 60ft tall jack-o-lantern creature. Make sure you buy tickets online in advanced. I tried booking for Saturday night the same Saturday, and they were sold out. The themes were like movie sets! Amazing actors and effects everywhere. Best haunted house I've been to. You walk in alone just you and your group or in my case just the 2 of us. We couldn't see any customers in front or behind us, which made it perfect for actors to scare us. However they have no VIP passes, so the line was about an hour but worth the wait. read more

Went for the first time last Sunday. Loved it! Scenery and props were fantastic. Their focus is clearly in their amazing appearance with a bunch of jack-o- laterns, scarecrows with pumpkin heads, and huge, almost house sized skulls. My personal fav was the skeleton ceiling/ chandalier. No complaints whatsoever, if anything they could use more actors to fill out their trail but the ones they do have do a great job so I didn't even mind there being not too many. read more

Fantastic set up with amazing walk through. Sound and lighting gets the adrenaline running..but.....we had such a long wait before going in. Then the groups ahead were starting to close in on other groups walking. So, you could see a jump scare before you got there and the anticipation would be gone. I walked around saying HI to everyone because we saw where they were standing from jumping out at the group ahead. Ticket prices are a bit much. Still had a great time! read more

This is the 4th year in a row I've gone, and, as usual, this haunt did not disappoint. It did seem that there were more mannequins this year, though, than in the past - not enough actors this year? This haunt delivers with their huge monsters, spooky houses, and creepy displays. The pumpkins that light your way throughout are all hand-carved and are fun to look at while you wait in lines to get into the next part. The actors were superb this year - scary, funny, and creepy as they stalk you in the dark! The costumes were amazing, as everyone makes their own. Did I mention all of the actors are volunteers? Well they are, and they ROCK. Get there early so you can find a good place to park (which can be tricky as they pack you in pretty tight. Leave the Hummer at home and take the Prius) and you don't have to wait forever in lines. Be sure to check out the barn for delicious treats such as homemade cider and cider donuts, plus homemade gifts. You'll jump, you'll laugh, you'll have a GREAT time. Don't miss out! Oh, & what makes this haunt even more cool is that all of the money they make goes right back into the haunt and they donate a lot to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society. :) read more

Once inside the actual haunt, it wasn't bad. But we arrived on time for our 9:00 time slot and waited in line until after 11:00 in the very very cold. Also, the website says the haunt is 45 minutes long, but I clocked it at 20 min. Many of the pictures online show elaborate structures, which are cool but aren't part of the haunt. They are what one sees while waiting in the very long line. The haunt itself isn't bad but isn't as special as the pics online indicate. I think they could do better by spreading out the tickets among more time slots. When one buys tickets, the last time slot is 9 or 9:30, should be 11:30. read more

Went to Haunted Overload last year (2013) and was VERY impressed. I'm usually mildly disappointed by these haunted attractions (e.g., the one in Litchfield, NH [Spookyworld? Nightmare New England?] was a joke), but this one was different. Bigger, more elaborate sets (as noted by most reviewers), and a true sense of suspense as you walked through the forest. I mean, you know it's all make believe, but this place somehow gets you to suspend that rationale awareness for about an hour, and you move through much of it as if it were real. Right around the first turn they had me: A blue-lighted swirling, smoking vortex illusion that you must walk through - with no idea what's ahead. I turned to my wife and mouthed WTF!,...and we ventured forward. Very cool. read more

This place is the best. No other haunted house/attraction even comes close. This was our second year going, and they completely outdid themselves...which I didn't think was possible. The time and effort that must go into this - I can't even begin to imagine. But it shows. Everything here is original. The props are unbelievable. Walking through the woods at night is terrifying enough, but add Haunted Overload to the mix and you're in for an AMAZING time. One thing I have to mention is the pumpkins. There are hundreds of them, all different shapes and sizes, lining the paths, all carved, and each lit up every night. It's quite a sight. The makeup & costumes on the actors are top notch. The walk through is perfect; not too short, not too long (although I wouldn't complain if it was longer...I would happily walk through this place for hours if it was that long). The scares are great...it's not just actors jumping out and screaming in your face. I got caught off guard SO many times. I can't say enough about the props and walk throughs...they are so detailed and so big. I love the unexpected surprises in the middle of the woods...including a circus tent. If you are afraid of clowns, brace yourself. Tickles the Clown is my absolute most favorite character that I have ever encountered at a haunted attraction. This place does so many things right. You need to buy your tickets in advance for a specific time slot (if a time slot is not sold out they will sell at the ticket booth). Doing this avoids ridiculously long lines. They send you in in small groups, but like any other place, either you catch up to the group in front of you, or the group behind you catches up to you. They effectively break this up throughout the haunt. Actors will stop you and interact with you, and then send you on your way. I also saw something for the first time ever at Haunted Overload. A dude clinging onto his girlfriend for dear life because he was so scared. It was hilarious. This one is a must see. The price is right. The haunt is perfect. And above all, when we go here, we have so much fun. On your way out be sure to stop at the farm stand. The apple cider donut was delicious. read more

Loved it in the past but last night was extremely disappointing. Got there @ 9:30 (right on time for our tickets), waited in line till 11:45!!! ... And we were back to the car by 12:05. It was so dark in spots that you couldn't see what was scary anyways.. And the actors DEFINITELY lacked enthusiasm ...as well as there were things missing from years past and way less actors. It's a ride to get there... So, unfortunately... I'll have to say we will be cutting it from our spots next year and certainly not returning this year. Sooooo sad. This used to be one of my favorites, very artistically done with lots of "friendly" actors to scare the bejesus outta ya. Oh well... All good things come to an end? read more

Wow, just wow. Went here this past Friday night and my girlfriend and I were just blown away. You literally step through the entrance and feel like you are on the set of Halloween town. People weren't lying when they said that the props are like anything you have seen before. The giant skull is just unreal. It's a shame this place only has 8 reviews, even one of the actors at the entrance was telling me many of the locals don't know about haunted overload. Hopefully the special they have coming up on ABC/NBC will help give them some more popularity. Fantastic job by the actors, amazing make up and costumes. My ONLY recommendation would be for them to only let a few people in at a time, my girlfriend and I got stuck between a big group ahead of and behind us and we could see many of the scares coming, i bet this will be sorted out though as it was only the first night of the season. Y'all. Let me tell you about the spooky magic that is Haunted Overload. This is, hands down, the best haunted attraction I've ever been to. My husband and I visited on October 15, 2016. The fantastic: -The location - Special shout out to the natural creep factor of a pitch dark farm in New England. -The layout - As someone who is claustrophobic, I appreciate that the haunt itself is laid out so you don't feel trapped. The timing of your walk-through provides you with the chance to look around and appreciate the decor. Do it. You'll be amazed at the craftsmanship. Pumpkin Alley provided me with another example of how I am a poor excuse for a pumpkin carver. -The scares - Nothing gory or gross, just classic jump scares executed flawlessly by impeccably costumed characters committed to their scenes and cause. -The good cause - Cute, cuddly animals are at the top of my list of favorite things. Haunted Overload supports the Cocheco Valley Humane Society. Shut up and take my money. I also loved that after 45 minutes of high-adrenaline scaring, I was able to buy locally-sourced, homemade baked goods and apple cider. I have been going to this haunted attraction since it was a small haunt at the creator's home. It has been amazing every year to see it get bigger and better. Last year (2013) was the best yet. Honestly I went back and while I still say family's would still love this place I did appreciate it more the 2nd time around. There seemed to be more actors and props that I had missed the first round! This is a top notch haunt that you will not find anywhere else. We have been going to Haunted Overload for 4 years straight. The props are absolutely amazing and movie set quality. We tell everyone it's worth the drive from Boston to go. We look forward to going all year. And there is nothing more scary than walking in the dark woods! However, this year (2016), they reversed the route and it was very disappointing. We waited way longer to get inside and our backs were to a lot of the cool props like the Skeltor. And they took away the huge clown. I don't really understand the changes? It was amazing in past years. Don't mess with something that is great! We will be back next year though and hope for the good ole ways to return. read more

Walking through the fog and lights and pumpkins makes me feel like Julie Andrews spinning on the mountaintop in the Sound of Music. Yes folks, the hills are alive with the sound of chainsaws. I would pay money just to stand in their line cause it's so fabulous. The actors are clearly dedicated and their scenery is unreal! And I was ecstatic to see the Headless Horseman returned! I also love that they had real jack o lanterns not the fake ones I've seen at a few other haunted attractions.. I was truly mind blown by this place! I was drawn by the rave reviews and drove from Boston on my birthday to experience Haunted Overload with my closest friends. The work that went into the set design is mind-boggling and as a structure HO is frankly the most impressive haunted house I have ever been to. My friends and I felt like there were 2 different teams in charge of the ambience/set and the training/deployment of the actors. As someone who has worked at a major haunted house in the past, I absolutely understand that there are good and bad nights and that it is impossible to always stay "on" when you are dealing with conga-lines of patrons but the actors were about as dispassionate as you can get and there was nothing creative about how the actors were set up in each room of the haunt. If I was told that someone new was in charge of training the actors and coming up with novel ways of deploying them within the haunt I would absolutely make the drive back for the set pieces alone, but until that happens I would skip this, at least if you're coming from Boston. read more

I'm a big fan of horror and suspense. I came here on a Sunday night with my date and honestly I had a awesome time. My date loved the experience even though she kept grabbing my arm as she gets scared easily lol. I will definitely recommend anybody who's looking for laughs, scares, overall a good time. I've been to this haunt several times and each time I am surprised, amazed, and most of all scared out of my mind! Everything is done with craft and care... While we were waiting in line, the Headless Horseman treated us to a very surprising scare ...in a perfect scene- coming across an apple orchard with fog in the background. Thousands of hand carved, jackolanterns, the vortex, the crazy ass clowns, I don't want to give too much away but the actors are amazing and steal the show. The carvings are so spooky in the moonlight. Even though I might see a zombie or other character it was still able to scare the hell out of me when it came to life. If you want something "lighter" you can come during specific days during daylight hours with younger kids. Not only is this an incredible haunt, these people are community conscious and donate to local charity. They have also been featured on ABC and The Weather Channel as one of the country's best Haunts! You will not be disappointed! read more

Great Time last Sat.the 25th. Even with the big crowd ( we had 13 people in our group) the crew still breaks everyone in groups so that the experience is not rushed!! Because some of us really enjoy the details in this huge undertaking I have to admit, we often go at a slow pace.!! And the "character's" working here would ask us to move it along in a subtle way by chasing us a bit with CHAINSAWS OUTTA NOWHERE.!!. But the crew never harrassed us verbally and asked us to just move along. That place is GREAT!! EVERY JACK-O'LANTERN IS HAND CARVED!! OHHHH THE PROPS HOLY COW. So please do take this one suggestion seriously as I am glad it was me who walked into a support-pole and not some little kid/ elder. The 1st "dark room-house thingy' ( it had black-cloth stringer hanging down as you walked in) was TOO dark and even though I was going slowly I walked head 1st into this solid beam -support pole. No major damage-just a small cut on the forehead. But I recall walking through the cloth stringer and then I walked mabey 2 ft to my left and BUMP!!. So hopefully this helps and I'm sure the team @ "overload " will light this area up just enough so nothing major happens to someone else. I am a huge fan of haunted attractions and visited Haunted Overload for the first time this year. It's definitely a very cool haunt that does a lot of things bigger and better than most! The Pros: - Awesome and original sets and props, with incredible attention to detail. - Cool ghouls and all the actors did a great job. Definitely saw some unique characters and screamed a few times! Makeup is very well done. - Considering the crowds, they still do a good job with the pacing. Yes, you may catch up to other groups but you can still end up alone by slowing down or speeding up. - Love that they donate to the local humane society. Cons - Shorter than I expected. We had a long drive to get there and were expecting it to be a bit longer. Website says it takes approximately 45 mins, depending on whether you run. I really took my time...didn't run at all, stopped to look at things, interacted with the ghouls and it still only took about 25 minutes (including some waiting on line to have tickets checked once you got in). - They had a videographer shooting footage when we were there (7pm on 10/15). He was about 10-15 feet ahead of us for much of the walk through and several times when we came around a corner to a new scene he had it brightly lit and the monsters were out of their hiding spot posing and then either scrambled to reset for us or just stayed out. It really took away from the scare factor, though it did give us a chance to see their costumes well. Maybe next time have him do the walk through before or after guests are in. Hoping to see the video, though! Overall, I would highly recommend this attraction and am glad we went! Great job! read more

I have been to Haunted Overload three times and one thing I have always respected with this haunted attraction is that they take customer feedback respectfully. They spend a good portion of the year building their sets which are the best part of the attraction itself. The characters make up is very well done and not mediocre like you see at other sites. Now granted they did change their line this year and that is the biggest Hassel getting into the attraction. However, the first part of the line they utilized to entertain the guests. The second part of the line I reference the photo opportunity section great designs to take pictures, and I like that the clown tent is now the freak show. The busy night are hard to manage with groups of patrons however, the actors were very clever in how they got you even in bigger groups. There were area that were hard to see which helped. My favorite two parts were the glowing skeletons that I was admiring the effect and I did not see the character who came up and breathed by my ear. I was also walking in the toy section and the creepy doll girl got me as I thought for sure she was part of the scene. I am always impressed by the scenes and the actors. I also like that every time I come there is something different to look forward to. read more
