Truly have never been to a better yoga studio than HAUM. Their space on Mission is exquisite and so spacious and filled with light (or candle-light, depending on the time of day you go). I've jumped around to different classes with different teachers and continue to have great experiences each time. Prior to March 2020, it was Yoga To The People, as many SF yogis were familiar with this 16th Mission yoga studio location. However, YTTP shut down, and I was not only devastated that my favorite studio for vinyasa was closed permanently but I grieved over the beautiful and open fifth floor studio space as well! Seeing how the YTTP in Berkeley has been left vacant, I feared the same thing would happen here and that I'd never set foot in this amazing studio OR do another more traditional and very spiritually tied and breath-focused class in the Bay again... But then I looked through yoga studios near me on ClassPass and found HAUM. I can honestly say, I am SO SO happy that HAUM has opened up in this very studio location AND the women-owned studio still offers more spiritually oriented vinyasa that not only allow you to focus on one breath one movement, but also provides you self reflection time through group meditations going into and leaving the class. I honestly didn't think this yoga studio could get any better, but the HAUM team has done an amazing job further beautifying this amazing space, decorating the studio with real flora from the ceilings and along the walls, to dimly lit hanging lights, and some modern pieces of art. So far with the handful of classes that I've taken, I've enjoyed both classes from Yvonne and Rachel equally, and they both have quite different flow style (and meditation styles) as far as I can tell! I can't wait to attend some of the more unique classes like Slow Flow, Vin+Soundbath, Nidra+Soundbath, or Yin+Meditation! read more

I've attended Haum a few times, and they definitely know the foundations of yoga. I love learning about the background of poses and each teacher I've taken seems to deeply care about the practice. I know when I sign up for a class at Haum, I'm in for a high quality class. Afterwards, I feel rejuvenated and relaxed. And for the more demanding classes, I feel like the instructors are excellent at reminding students to take poses at their own pace. I love Haum yoga! I think the only downside is taking the staircase. Once I scootered to Haum, and I had to carry the scooter up and then down 5 flights of stairs. We had asked if the scooter could hitch a ride in the elevator but the staff refused, stating the elevator was only for instructors. It was also a bit tricky getting to the class, it's on the top floor. Their signage is very well designed but it's a bit of a maze! Still a good pre-workout tho, lol. I just hope that Haum puts accessibility at the forefront of their practice when some students may need to use the elevator. read more

I frequently visited this studio when it was owned by Yoga to the People. It is BY FAR, the nicest studio I've ever practiced in so I did some research to see who would succeed it. And there was Haum... Welcome Haum! As mentioned, this studio has a stellar view of the city as it's located on the upper floor of a building. However, note that you must take the stairs walking up to the studio and can be quite a trek. When you do arrive, you're immediately greeted by the pleasant wisps of smoke from incense and a serene aura. Walking in, the studio always smells and feels fresh and kept. There are changing curtains in the back, cubbies for your belongings (without locks or doors so maybe be careful), and assisting blocks/bolsters that you may use during. Classes are pretty light the times I've gone with participants filling maybe 1/4 of the studio space. Now for the practice. I attended two sessions: one for a vinyasa flow, and the other a sound bath. At the start of every session, I was instructed to chant without knowing exactly what I was saying, respectfully; this made me slightly uncomfortable but thankfully I had my mask on so the instructors couldn't see me not participating. The session was straight-forward, and challenging at some points - I would definitely suggest their vin flow for someone just starting out. The sound bath was pretty excellent! Similar to the start of the vin sesh, I was instructed to chant. Practiced together a bit and ended the session with... a sound bath (it's exactly what it sounds like). I snapped out from my trance not really knowing I had wandered off at the end of the session and felt really well! Pretty cool experience and glad I tried it for my first but probably won't go to this particular class again. read more

This is a beautiful spacious yoga studio and smells amazing. You have to ring the buzzer and go up 5 flights of stairs which is a nice warm up. No shoes inside, there are cubbies right outside. Easy check in process for first timers and they take classpass. You have to bring your own mat or they rent them for a couple bucks. The space is perfectly decorated, with string lights, plants, and incense and large windows with beautiful views of the city. Open cubbies in the studio as well, changing rooms with curtains, and restrooms. The space is basically one large room. Instructors and staff have great energy, highly recommend. read more

Months ago, I signed up for Yvonne Kingsley's yoga class at Haum SF for the first time, shortly after resonating with her writing on Instagram. The studio was located on the 5th floor in the middle of the Mission district, with big open windows overlooking the city of San Francisco. There was something very powerful about starting the class in stillness, fully awake to the perpetual noise of the city -- sirens and cars rushing past and people occasionally shouting. The sounds of the city oriented me towards how far human civilization has come, bringing me to an acute awareness of the preciousness of life at the start of class: to be alive, to breathe and exist in this intricately complex, beautiful, and tragic world. By the end of the class, I found myself laying in savasana, ugly crying and wiping away tears. I cried because in that moment, everything came together: the atmosphere at Haum, Yvonne's timely guidance, and where my mind and heart was that week. An epiphany was gifted to me through the practice of yoga. For as long as I remember, I perpetually chased "growth." Starting 7th grade, I spent Saturday mornings at Barnes and Nobles in the self-help aisle, devouring self-development, psychology, business books, and stealing SAT prep books that I didn't end up studying (don't tell my mom that I was an ex-book-thief). Everything I did, everything I pursued, I did to challenge myself to grow. There was never a time I let myself just "be," to just coast, to just enjoy where I was in life, to embrace where I was and who I was in the moment. I could feel the consequences of my relentless pursuit of growth, productivity, and impact -- my relationships with family and friends stagnated and my world collapsed beyond the walls of my work and counseling room. During the pandemic, I was deeply unhappy, disconnected, and feeling as if my growth was stunted. This attachment to growth was creating chronic burnout, dissatisfaction, and imbalance. In yoga, you are often practicing pairs of opposites. By moving through different postures, I can practice unclenching my effort, I can practice striving through discomfort, I can practice trusting myself when staying in the pose feels impossible, and I can practice just being. In that final savasana pose, I felt an untightening, a letting go, an emotional release. I was beginning my path to fully letting go, fully surrendering my worship of growth. Leaving the class lighter, beaming, and debriefing the class with my partner, I thought to myself, "Wow. Maybe I could see myself teaching yoga someday, to orchestrate the same kind of life-giving space and experience for others. I bookmarked that thought and waited to see how the pandemic would shape up, and now here I am applying for a Spring 200-Hour Training. In the last year, yoga has become a practice that has allowed this cerebral over-thinker to live in her body more. I want to join the spring training to deepen my learning, practice, and commitment to yoga as a life-long pillar in my life, and hope to also give that gift to others. -- Haumies, I applied for a yoga teacher partial scholarship sharing the story above, and just found out I was awarded. I will be starting the training in February! Right now, I am stoked at the idea of bringing yoga and Non-Violent Communication to our student community at Skyline, and am open towards wherever that takes me next. read more

Definitely a great place to do a membership since they do a lot of community-building. They have lower cost noon yoga classes, too. Definitely recommend. read more

This studio is absolutely stunning! The pictures don't do it justice. You immediately feel a sigh of relief and breath of fresh air at the same time when you enter in the space. They have an excellent list of instructors and a wide variety of classes to choose from which I appreciate as sometimes I want to sweat, and sometimes I want a soundbath! I also think their prices are very reasonable especially if you buy a package. In a city that can charge $35 per yoga class, I appreciate that they kept their prices lower. Just to note - its a 5th floor walk up, so just be prepared to "earn" your practice climbing those stairs :) read more

The studio itself is a beautiful space: it's light, airy, full of plants and has amazing views. All I can say is wow. This studio is beyond gorgeous, with city views, soft wood, hanging plants, and industrial windows. Everyone was so friendly and the classes are some of the best I've been to in SF. It seems so unassuming in a random building up narrow carpeted stairs. It's on the fifth floor so you get warmed up getting up there, but once you do you will be blown away by the energy of this space and the people in it. read more
