But I promised myself that I would definitely write one for Mark and Rivard's Earthworks. he truly deserves a five-star rating. I am actually disappointed that I will not be able to work with Mark again (I do not foresee another large demolition project in my future). I was more than happy with the experience and I was 100% satisfied with Mark's work. I highly recommend him and his work and I would call him again if I ever had a need for his services. Mark was the BEST contractor I have ever worked with. From start to finish, Mark was professional, friendly, and helpful. We decided to abandon our 30,000 gallon pool and due to the size of the job, we expected this job to be a difficult process filled with headaches. Despite the size and complexity, this job was, literally, the easiest I have had done in 17 years. I hired Mark primarily because of the reviews that stated his handling of city building permits and inspections. I have dealt with several contractors, including a few of the larger and popular companies in our area who promised to obtain permits and never did. Mark lived up to the reputation, obtaining permits before starting work and attending both city inspections...without having any issues or problems. I would have been happy with just knowing the work had been done to code, but Mark's attitude and work ethic blew me away! Mark arrived everyday by 8:00 AM and put in a solid 9+ hours on site. A few issues came up during the work but, unlike most contractors I've dealt with, Mark's attitude was always, "No problem. I can take care of that." We own an "odd-shaped" property lot with some access areas barely over 7'. Mark was a real master operating his equipment during setup and the job process. It is obvious he has been doing this for many years when you see his ability at maneuvering large equipment. I was shocked on the first day when Mark arrived by himself...no crew. Aside from his son coming out the last day to help with cleanup, Mark performed the ENTIRE job by himself. I have to say that it was nice not having a 5-6 member crew walking back and forth across my property for an entire week but, considering how well the job was done, I would have tolerated it. Mark talked to me throughout out the job to find out what my plans were after the job was done. In doing so, he saved us a couple thousand dollars. Mark brought over fill dirt from a previous job, which saved us in hauling and backfill costs. And, since we were not putting in grass, we didn't need special top soil for growing. The topper of it all was that the final price was QUITE a bit less than the original estimate. The whole process was a breeze and the Mark was the main reason it was so easy.

The morning HES and crew arrived, I had second thoughts on removing a certain area of my Satillo tiled deck and tiled patio. Haney was so understanding and explained that he'd start on the concrete and enclosure removal to give me time to see/decide when they get to the deck portion. This put me right at ease. When his crew arrived, they got right on task, like a systematic work plan. This was so reassuring for me (i've had my share of disappointments in the past from contractors.) HES crew delivered. "THANK YOU". They did such great work and sure know what they are doing. This crew worked so hard and worked practically nonstop in the HEAT. They had a positive vibe which was nice to see while doing such hard work. THE JOB / was to demolish a large patio with thick concrete patio, remove a partial patio enclosure and Saltillo tiles on a large upper deck area. There was a bit of a hiccup on the day of due to a bit of miscommunication between the office to the supervisor, however, with a quick phone call, it was resolved quickly and the job still got done in a timely manner. Asked for quote to demolish an inground vinyl liner pool. They appeared to know nothing about in…read moreground vinyl pools. Said they would need to drill a hole in the bottom of the pool to drain the water, I told them they actually didn't because it was a soft bottom pool which the salesperson didn't seem familiar with. The water table is too high to drill a hole being close to the river and I can drain it with a trash pump and 100 feet of 3 in hose that I could take care of myself. Explained that I wanted the concrete deck around the pool also taken out and they said it can be used as fill material, which they also said they do frequently and it would be no problem. Talked about adding some gravel to the concrete fill and compacting everything every 18 inches or so to ensure things were stable and wouldn't settle later. Said they do this routinely as well. Also asked for 12 inches of top soil, which they said was no problem. Finally got the quote and it was actually wrong. It listed an entire pool's worth of clean fill material (over 100 cubic yards is needed) and 12,000 dollar charge with no breakdown showing reuse of the concrete decking as fill material, indicated disposal of pool equipment which I told them I would take out and sell on my own (I installed it), no breakdown in material costs for the remaining fill, no labor costs, and just general description of the actual work to be done and a line for me to pay the permit fees separately. I've had lots of contractors at my house and have never been asked to pay a separate fee for a permit, they've always included the permit fee in the job quotes. I contacted them and told them the quote was nothing like what we discussed and asked them to revise it based on the conversation that was held about concrete reuse, the amount of fill material, and the pool equipment. They said they would provide a new quote. New quote never showed up. I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but this was one of the worst contractor interactions I've ever been associated with for just simply getting a quote. Can't even begin to imagine how much oversight I would have to give them for the work to prevent errors if they can't even provide an accurate quote. I don't recommend them.
