What a family friendly place! We went to the family cowboy round up and it was phenomenal. We went to the petting zoo and enjoyed the donkey, llama and goats. We took a sleigh ride to the little village and what a blast. Everything was kid friendly, (keep in mind we just went ourselves without children) and there was a mechanical bull, boxing, 'qtip' fighting and a bouncy castle. It the restaurant part we enjoyed unlimited hot dogs, amazing hot chocolate and beverages next to two real fire places, pool tables and a disco ball! The staff were friendly and without a doubt always there to direct us, the facilities were lovely and clean. It was an over all fantastic time. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone - especially if you have kiddos!

This Spring I went to Hatfield farms as part of a family reunion. Upon our arrival, we were taken by horse and wagon to a large barn where we were served a delicious roasted chicken dinner. We then spent the night drinking and playing many games and activities including Boxing (with gigantic rubber boxing gloves), Gladiator, and Bulling Riding. Everyone had a fantastic time. The staff were overly friendly and there was more than plenty to do. Hatfield is definitely a place I recommend anyone going for a reunion, birthday, Jack & Jill party, or other special event.

We didn't get to try out all the attractions at the farm, there is also a mini golf course and a petting zoo.

We were given a tour of the stables along with the history of the stables. From there we were introduced to the horses we were going to ride. We were invited into the horse stalls as the horses were groomed so the horses could get familiar with us. Once the horses were ready and saddled, we went outside where we were properly shown how to mount and dismount the horse. Off to the trail. The ride was a very relaxing hour horse ride through some trails, guided by Kristy, one of the owners. She gave us a history of the area as we rode, talked out the horses and all the while made sure everyone was good. The horses were very familiar with the area and very comfortable around people. All in all it was a very fun, relaxing hour. Upon returning, we were helped in dismounting. Once off, we had a brief chat with our tour guide, Kristy. She invited us to use the pool or saltwater hot tub they have on site. Perhaps on our next trip. My wife and I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone looking to go horseback riding. We were extremely comfortable and the horses were exceptionally well looked after. All in all, a great trip.

Their horses are magnificent, calm, and soothing. The ride was most enjoyable, a good length, through several beautiful settings: a small field, a forest, a pond, with the sunset over the Bay of Fundy as a backdrop. Lance and Sarah were exemplary hosts; the love they have for their animals is contagious; we loved it. P.S.: Thanks again, Lance, for my newfound passion for archery. ;)

A few days later and he rolled up in his truck and I got my first ever taste of real grass fed beef. Now, Lance is delivering to 4 locations across HRM, and 90% of my meat comes from a really nice guy who lives less than an hour away. Ok, enough backstory, down to what you came for. I've eaten lamb in 4 provinces in Canada, England, and New Zealand, and Lance's lamb is far and away the best I have ever had (sorry Kiwis!). We're talking bone sucking, dripping off the chin kind of good. There's a reason why, when I asked my 2 year old daughter what her favourite meat is, she immediately said "lamb"! The pork chops, roasts, and bacon are all top notch. I never really liked pork because I found it dry and flavourless, but this is because mass-produced pigs are raised to be as lean as possible, don't have a varied diet, and never get any exercise. The pork chops you'll get from lance are rich and full of flavour; I truly believe that I hadn't really eaten pork until I had the free range variety. The sausages are also phenomenal, particularly the spinach feta - those bad boys are sucked down by my borderline vegetarian in-laws like you wouldn't believe. Is the meat slightly more expensive than what you get at Sobey's? Yes. Is it better for you? Hell yeah, Omega 3's, baby. Is it much higher quality? Ab-so-freakin-lutely. Give your money to a hard working guy who's busting his chops (har, I crack myself up) in the local economy to provide great meat.

When I was working on South Park Street, I would walk past this landmark in the morning. The horses would be in the pen "horsing" about, often playing with orange pylons or just jumping around and chasing one another. In the evenings, on my home, I would see students learning the ropes, as an instructor stood center with a megaphone, yelling commands as the horses trotted about. Last summer on Canada day, there was a huge competition and all of Bell Road was closed down. Horses took precedent, walking about the street freely as their owners and riders braided their manes and brushed their flanks. It was a lovely sunny day sight; horses munching on the grass at the Natural History Museum while others competed in the ring. My only concern are the fumes from the traffic so close to the stable. I wonder if the horses are affected by the exhaust and whether the loud rumbling morning and evening commuters scare them at all. If you're able to stop and watch the horses some day while heading past I'm sure you'll be mesmerized and amused. Their such amazing creatures and many of them seem to be quite playful. The Bengal Lancers is a neat spectacle right in the midst of this bustling little city.

Every morning I get a real kick out of watching the horses trot around, play with one another and chew the fence (I find this especially amusing). The horses look very powerful and beautiful. It's really great to see them in the middle of the city. I guess this is one of those weird locations that gives Halifax its unique flare. The Junior Bengal Lancers offer lessons and do a lot of great work within the community that we should all be very proud of. Next time you're walking down Bell Road stop and watch the horses go about their business. It's surprisingly enjoyable...just don't be late for work!
