I have been receiving knee injections from Dr. Hawthorne in my attempt to postpone the inevitable - knee replacement surgery. More about that another time. On Father's Day weekend 2023, I felt a momentary sharp pain in my right shoulder. Having felt a similar pain in my past, I assumed what I had done. I put off seeing Dr. Hawthorne until July. After the CT, the official diagnosis was, "retracted full-thickness, full width re-tear of the supraspinatus tendon and, retracted full-thickness near full-width tear of the infraspinatus tendon". In laymen's terms, I tore my rotator cuff - again. The surgery (not arthroscopic) was addressed in mid-August. I started in-home PT 3-days after the surgery (arranged by Dr. Hawthorne's office). In-home PT continued for 3-weeks. I am currently in outpatient PT doing the work to re-gain both my strength, and my range of motion (also arranged by Dr. Hawthorne's office). By the way, I have a tattoo on the shoulder where the surgery was done. Without exaggeration, you would not be able to tell that I had surgery if I did not tell you. The point of incision is barely visible. Dr. Hawthorne is a man of few words. He'll give you the facts to help you to decide the next steps, without the glitter. When you are ready, you can move forward with him and trust that he will do a great job. I trust him. As soon as I have completed PT and have fully recovered from rotator cuff surgery, I will be scheduling with Dr. Hawthorne to get my knees done, one after the other. I highly recommend Dr. Hawthorne and his team.

There's no TV in the waiting room, just symphony #5 playing on loop, which is a disturbing musical piece that in my opinion isn't appropriate for a doctors office. The 3-gallon water jug looks like it's survived hard times since the 70's, and a brave soul in the room found out that the water had the taste to match. There is paint peeling on the doors and walls, and empty hooks sticking out of the walls, perhaps where something worth bragging about once stood. If I had to summarize this place in one word, it would be: "sketchy". I'd like to give an honorable mention to another possibility: "run".

I knew this was wrong but had to drive back home to retrieve the written appointment page. I was indeed correct. My appointment was scheduled three weeks earlier for 7:50 am today. I drove back to the clinic to share the information. This time the new receptionist told the truth about Dr Locker moving the morning appointments. Problem is, no one communicated that with me. I also have physical therapy scheduled with the same clinic address shown on the appointment page. At my first appointment for PT at this clinic, the receptionist told me my PT was scheduled across the street at Twin Lakes. Of course, same nonsense here; my written appointment page clearly showed the Orthopedic Clinic for PT. Of course, now I was late and had to call them to reschedule. Seriously, do yourself a big favor and choose ANY other orthopedic clinic for your needs.This place turns and churns patients like a Texas cattle ranch. You are barely a number to them. I see his PA mostly and cannot say I feel warm about her at all. I actually had a follow up appointment today at 11:00am. I had many reminders from their office reminding me of the appointment. I arrived early actually thinking I may even get in early. All appointments I have had in the past, I waited in the waiting room at least 30 + minutes. Today I waited 40+ minutes and then off to a room to see the PA. Of course, the next wait begins. after about 15 minutes, I left. There is no respect for my time. I do not know who manages their time but it appears they book too many patients at a time. This issue goes to the top in the organization. I am sure there are places in Daytona that could teach he or she how to run a doctors office efficiently. Patients are the main revenue producer. As a result, I will not be going back to that office again. I have to believe there are other Orthopedic doctors in the area who respect the patients. What people may take as not caring is actually, his expertise and knowledge of what he does. The quality of life regained by his talents can not be over stated. State of the art Mako robotics leads to a shorter recovery and faster return to the pickle ball courts. He is matter of fact. My first visit went as follows. Hello, we shook hands and he held up my X-ray and said, you need a new hip. My response was, just like that? He said, yep. I said, kind of like ordering a pizza when I'm hungry, and he said yes. He was right. He did personally, call both me and my wife the evening of our surgery to check in and staff followed up the next day. I asked him if he wanted to do the MRI suggested by the radiologist (on my leg). He said "I didn't read that" and had to go back and read it and then ordered the MRI. In my opinion, that showed a lack of interest in the detail of my injury and lack of detail in care planning. He was arrogant and disrespectful in interactions with me. He seems challenged and aggravated by educated people who ask questions. My husband is a physician, and I am a Ph.D. in psychology. If you like to blindly follow recommendations from what is in my opinion a middle of the pack physician, then he might be the right one for you. Also, I met 2 people in PT who expressed to me that they were not happy with the surgery he did on their knees. They had pain and swelling and limited ROM long after the date he had told them they would be "back on the pickleball court". I did not allow him to do surgery on me. He told me I would never walk again without surgery. Well, I walk well and did so without surgery. After I asked him if he read my history of RSD in a prior bone break in my medical history (which he had not), he agreed surgery could be a risk.
