I have been a patient of Dr. Chewning's for years and I also see his PA, Tamika Robertson. I have been so very pleased with the level of consideration and care I have received every visit. This is a staff of medical professionals who truly care about each patient. Not only do they take the time to listen to your needs, they are willing to work with you to determine the best plan of care, rather than just pushing you through a cookie-cutter system. Yes, you will occasionally experience longer wait times, but this is because they are taking their time with each patient. THIS IS THE LEVEL OF HEALTHCARE WE DESERVE, and I'm grateful someone is finally offering it, with grace and good humor, no less. As far as other reviewers who have complained about cost of followup visits for the Wellness Clinic, all I can say is that you get what you pay for. This office seems to take on way too many patients. There is only one "real" doctor and it is impossible to get an appointment with him. The people that assist the nurse practitioners do not call you back, so if you need a prescription renewed you are s.o.l. The quality of care is below average unless you can get in to see the doctor, who you can't get an appointment with for months. Then if you happen to miss that appointment, they put you at the end of the que. I very strongly do not recommend this doctors office. read more

I waited several months for a new patient appointment. I specifically told them I wanted an appt in Port Orange. They scheduled me for the Ormond office. The receptionist in Port Orange shrugged her shoulders and gave me a look like she was disgusted when I tried to explain to her that I couldn't make it to Ormond in time for the appointment. They would not reschedule the appointment. I waited months for literally nothing. I could have booked with a different provider and have care established. My advice is to find another provider and skip this office. read more

I waited months for an appointment- he was highly unprofessional and inappropriate, made statements "I like when pretty girls can't run away from me". When examining me stated "if my wife came in right now she'd be jealous" while being a bit too thorough... made me feel unsafe. read more

Phenomenal practice! I'm over 70 with some difficult issues and have a great deal of experience with all sorts of medical professionals. I moved here a few years ago to live with family and started visiting Blacksheep because they adore Dr. Chewning and staff. I've seen him as well as 3 of his NP/PA's and they're ALL top-of-the-line and very gifted. Everyone I've interacted with there is. If you have to wait, it's well worth it. They spend extra time with you and others who need it. All are much more conscientious, learned, and caring than the majority I've seen over the last couple of decades at least. read more

I almost gave up on finding a Dr that takes time to listen, goes above and beyond to help you feel the best you can. Dr. Chewning is a rare find . I can trust and depend on him. He went as far as helping a family member that wasn't even his patient . Now , my daughter, son in law , granddaughter and grandson are part of the Black Sheep Medical system. Black Sheep Medical was recommended by a client of mine. I am so glad I decided to check it out. I have a nurse practitioner that is amazing. His name is Chet. He knows everything he talks to like he's known you forever. He pays attention to detail he's not impatient at all. I have a lot of medical issues along with having a double mastectomy 18 months ago. And he's helped me every step of the way with all the things physically that have been bothering me. He calls me back when I get blood work done to let me know how things are going. I haven't had anybody call me back in 11 years about my blood work when I was at another practitioner in Palm coast. These people are the best I highly recommend Black Sheep Medical. Complete bull of a doctors office. My wife books her appointment at the beginning of July for August 21st. She confirms her appointment now they call and said they canceled her appointment because to receptionist messed up and double booked the appointment and tried to push her back for another month. These docs get paid so much money but hire some of the most incompetent staff. This appointment was to re up on her diabetes medication because we moved. To make some one suffer because your staff messed up is not her fault. I'm not a fake person I'm real and everyone should know how this office works. read more

Wonderful care. Dr Chewning listens pays attention and addresses each concern. He asks the right questions and knows the answers. he has helped me lose over 80 pounds and kept me in good physical shape for my age (66). He is sensitive caring and has great bedside manner, he is very humorous but also takes his profession with great seriousness and professionalism. His knowledge in family practice is exceptional. I scheduled an 1130AM new patient appointment- at 1230pm still was not seen by anyone. Asked MA, she said she was not sure and would ask MD: MD said maybe 10-15 more mins. I am a nurse, my time is just as valuable as everyones- Completely unprofessional to treat a patient with such disregard, I am sure of that was the MD family or Friend he would be just as upset. read more

I am admittedly a very bull headed male, in my mid 50's that has always hated going to the doctors office for a check up. I have always thought that the only time I should ever consider seeing a Dr was when I actually felt bad or had a major issue. I must say that Dr Chewning and the Black Sheep staff have changed my entire attitude... Dr C is the most considerate and caring doctors I have ever met... Now I see him on a regular basis and I can honestly say that I really dont mind going to my doctor for a regular checkup anymore. read more

As noted in other reviews, there is no problem with the medical professionals in this practice, it's navigating the office and appointment staff and getting responses that is the difficulty. I brought my wife to this practice when I joined because I'd heard good things about it and her family doctor did not take Tricare when I put her on it as my dependent. I regret that now and she has returned to her original family doctor and is willing to pay the visit fees because they are much more responsive. If you move to Black Sheep, do NOT expect return calls or responses to messages. In over a year with the practice I left numerous messages with no response. Most recently (within 6 weeks) my wife was very ill just before Hurricane Ian. We called BSM no less than five times to get her in to be seen with no responses. We finally took her to the ER where she was treated and advised to follow up with her primary care. Again, multiple calls to BSM went unanswered (well AFTER the hurricane). Two weeks ago I sent an email to Dr. Chewning via his website messaging system that touts the practice as "reliable". The message headed says to expect a response within 48-72 hours. Over two weeks later I have not received a response. On November 14 I found my patient portal and logged into that, where I left a message SUPPOSEDLY directly for Dr. Chewning expressing my dissatisfaction with the response from his office. As of today, November 22, I have not received a response of any kind.......on a system that says I will get a response within 48-72 hours. Do yourself a favor.....FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR!! read more

I've seen both Dr Chewning & the PA Tameka. They are both helpful and knowledgeable healthcare professionals. I live in port orange and have no problems making the commute to go to ormond to see them for my health care needs. I feel comfortable talking to them about all of my needs and concerns. The staff is more than accommodating even when they had a PA move on and scheduling became a little more tricky they did their best to make sure I had the times I needed for my appointments. Made appointment in person and gave them my referral for Medical MJ from my Doctor. I was told Initial visit would be $150. When I went to my appt. I paid the $150 for what I thought was my Initial Consultation. After nurse taking my vitals, she determined I was in the wrong office and explained it would be another $50, after paying it, brought me to suite H. After seeing Dr.Chewning I was told upon acceptance from the state, I would need to call and get another appt. for my prescription. At this time I was told it would be another $125 and that I would have to follow up every 3 months costing me $125 each time. I cancelled appt. telling them this is wrong and excessive. I called DocMJ - Total cost $169 every 7 months. read more

I went there to get a referral 15 days later still in pain and no referral to find out what is wrong. I wasted my time going there . Back to square one find a DR on my insurance and try again . Its to bad that the insurance still has to pay for the office visit. read more

I have no problem with Dr. Chewning. It is the females of his office staff who Can't Understand Normal Thinking that I have issue with. These bullies are left to their own devices to speak to you how they please and if you argue their point or have a different opinion, you are told to go find another primary care physician. I had been going there 3 years and because of a mis-communication about meds, I got into an argument with the office manager on the phone. She was soooooo rude and uncaring about my predicament and insisted that I schedule a visit when all I wanted to do was talk to "Dan" about where my prescription had been sent. After her insistence that I make an appointment and seeing that I was getting nowhere, I let some bad language slip and was told to go find another doctor. I have no doctor, no medication (that a prescription had already been made for) and am pretty furious about the treatment I received. The 'black sheep' of this medical office are the women who run the front. GFY read more
