Favorite part was the robotics play that was going on at the DIA. The projected vines and flowers at the Science Center was hella strong. Then there's giant blow up bunny rabbits across the street from the DIA. Anyways, I had a great time looking at all to the exhibits here. A fun "NO MONEY SPENT" good time in the city with my fiance'. August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone is set in 1911, and is about a group of people searching...after emerging from the 300-year experience of slavery. While the community that Mr. Wilson created is about a very specific time and place for African Americans, he also shows that all of humanity wrestled with the same universal questions. Who am I? What happened to me? Where is my love? Where am I going? And in August Wilson's own words, "Why God got to be so big?" The entire cast including the youth were excellent! Bravo! Bravo! Thank you for another opportunity to enJOY an intimate live theater experience. There's nothing like it! The parking is free with watchful security guard. The lobby has a short food menu and a bar to partake before the play, at play intermission and after the play. Detroit used to be a free for all for graffiti with untold thousands of pieces sprawling all across…read moreits 138 square miles. Now the killjoy in charge is intent on hunting graff to its extinction around these parts and the many abandoned structures, some quite massive, that once sported all manner of spray paintings are falling left and right. It's the gentrification and Karenification or our once glorious Detroit. At least we still have Humboldt Forest graffiti park, a public park on private land, to provide walls for graffiti artists, or graffiti bombers to paint. Some of the land around certain walls can get pretty muddy, but nevertheless on most all good weather days you can find people painting here, guaranteeing an ever rotating selection of what some euphemistically call "urban art". Most of it is eye popping and brimming with some real talent... and if something looks like garbage come back in a week and odds are it will be gone. Park along the dead end street that leads here, just across from the old style graff covered beat up bando house, the kind that used to be so much more prevalent in Detroit. Anyone can paint here but you ought to prime your spot with some good outdoor paint first or at least do enough of a solid color to cover identifying characteristics of the piece below. Beginners walls are supposed be in the back with the art increasing in complexity and dexterity til you reach the front by the lot... in theory at least. There is primo stuff you shouldn't paint over unless you got the chops to back it up. If you're really just learning I recommend Graffiti Alley out in Ann Arbor. Baring the high ladder spots that locale is overrun with toys. There's a few benches, chairs and tables around to chill and at least a couple of garbage cans. Don't litter or spraypaint the trees and pick up your dog's dropping! I'm trying to think of any other behavioral violations here... the proprietor is often complaining about people acting the fool on his Instagram stories. He's done a lot to make this a nice, public access spot so just respect it. They just had a graffiti festival here, along with two other locations this past weekend: Aerosol Nightmares! Most of the pieces were still in progress when I went so I'll have to return to document how everything turned out. There was also a sub show , Criminal Records, graff style pieces painted on vinyl lps mounted on pallets in a shipping container that I believe is here permanently. Of course the outside of that is all painted up, too. The show was awesome. It's too bad that I missed Josh's annual sick fireworks display yet again, though. Maybe next year... This park abuts the train tracks, great for more opportunities to document graffiti as other galleries go rolling by. And the walls along two sides of the parks border are emblazoned with some fire pieces, too. You probably should leave those be, though, especially the TEAD. He died in a tragic accident in 2017 and is universally respected in the graffiti community, especially here in Detroit. There used to be even more cool graffiti in the abandoned industrial building on the other side of one of those walls but it's now torn down. So it goes. If you make some connections down here maybe you can get the heads up on what abandoned places all lit up with graffiti are still left. Bring your cans, your brushes, your rollers, your blackbooks and your beers and blunts if you're into that sort of thing. Or just bring your cameras as there's plenty of eye candy all around here. It's especially eye catching at golden hour.

They are located in a neighborhood that I would definitely be cautious if traveling alone. Inside there are beautiful arts pieces and beads thru out the bldg. There is so much to choose from, Im sure you will find something. I bought a few pieces to make earrings to give away for the holidays. On the outside you will see mosaics, sculptures, paintings, old items turned into unique art pieces. Tip: Stop by if you have some time, you wont regret. All the pieces are reasonable priced. It's ambience is of culture and pride for all especially people of color. I adore the statues, beads and etc. Much to be learn inside of that building. The outside speaks for the artistic surroundings of talented people. Stages set up for entertainment and social events to mingle and enjoy. Just a beautiful place to be. I value this establishment so much. It's a kind and loving space for ALL !!
