When we arrived, there was literally no one else in the store. For a moment, we thought the place had been deserted, but then a salesperson appeared. He gave us plenty of attention and spent time explaining each of the three major mattress models they offer. We were impressed with his knowledge and his ability to clearly explain the significant differences between the models. We didn't end up buying anything, but it was very helpful to gain a better understanding of their mattress offerings.

That somewhere between my original request for information and my bewildered consternation at the end, their usual service standards were not upheld. My original positive impression of Penny Mustard has been restored.

Title: DON'T GET THE FLOOR MODEL…read more I give this business a 3 for the sales interaction and a 1 for the product. Here's my story. I went to La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries in Wauwatosa on a quiet Sunday afternoon. The sales associate listened to my needs: I'm a retired senior, so I needed a manually operated chair with a small footprint that I can read in and sleep in as my back benefits when I stay in a neutral position. He also told me a bit too much about his own needs in a recliner. Eventually he directed me to a floor model that was on sale for around half price. I liked the style and color. It's very hard to get a feel for a chair in 5-10 minutes, esp. when you're going to sleep in it. I also didn't realize that floor models, as they're not full price, are not returnable. That choice has really soured my opinion of the brand, as I'd rather have spent more money so that I could return a chair that is unsatisfactory instead of wasting money on something I cannot use for half of its intended use. I cannot read in this chair. I can use it for about 20 minutes, but it either folds me up too tightly, aggravating my hips, or reclines me too much. Additionally, I've determined that this chair is aggravating my sleep apnea during nighttime, possibly because the head of the chair is puffy. I'm short, so I think the puffy head hits me differently and causes my head to move forward, blocking my breathing. My Apple Watch says my instances of sleep apnea have increased dramatically. In my old, ratty recliner, which was firm (not puffy), I didn't even have to wear my CPAP. So it's back to wearing the CPAP at night. To wrap it up, the delivery service was very good. The staff who delivered the chair were quick and professional. All in all, it's been a very disappointing and expensive experience.

We were treated with pleasant professionalism and our order was promptly corrected. By The Yard is a wise investment which we highly recommend.

We've been using it the entire summer and all have held up wonderfully and they are very comfortable. We wanted the swivel/rocking chairs with footrests and so glad we did splurge for those. Also - the table/chairs are so easy to clean. I thought the showroom in Vernon Hills was great - everyone was very nice and let us walk around and try out the furniture. So - the kicker and why it's 4 and not 5 stars. The delivery and assembly. We live in a high rise downtown and they will only deliver to your bottom lobby level. It will come assembled but what you don't think about immediately is that a door width is only 36". If it had come assembled, it wouldn't be able to fit inside our condo to go to the balcony. This is no issue if you're delivering to a house b/c you just go straight to the backyard. But a condo - very different. So - we had it come in boxes and we opted to assemble after the showroom told us it was very easy. First off - the furniture is extremely heavy - hence the excellent quality! And it was not easy to assemble for my husband/myself. Talking with customer service, they told us to just shove pieces together and it will work. After spending $1800 for the furniture - I wasn't willing to do that. So I called the store and they came out and put it together on our balcony. We are forever grateful for that and while it's easy for some to put together - this wasn't an easy endeavor. Just something to think about if you live in a condo. With all that being said - I would order from By the Yard again b/c I think the company/staff and furniture are of great quality.
