I landed on T L Sea Diving after checking off all safety marks and after talking with David who was willing to meet me after the shop closed due to my work schedule. I instantly felt at ease with the entire team (David, Nicole, Joe, Ian, Larry, Phil and Jill) and was so appreciative of their process, high level of skill, and how they individually accommodated all four of us and our learning/personality styles in the group. I felt exceptionally well-cared for and safe throughout certification and look forward to the Advanced Open Water course coming up and the very cool international and club dives they have planned.

Prior to finding Eight, I received bad information, poor training, and wasted thousands of dollars on equipment that wouldn't work for me. I signed up for a class at Eight and from the minute I walked in the door, it was a completely different experience. The good - As a woman, they had items and equipment in stock! They helped fit me for each piece of gear without making comments about my body or my size. They have community dives where they welcome new and super technically skilled divers alike. Everyone has been incredibly supportive and offered to help me improve my diving. The instruction I have gotten here has so far exceeded what I have experienced elsewhere, that I intend to continue with my diving and skill development. The staff is incredible--Andrea and George, specifically, helped me with my whole kit and made sure things fit and were comfortable. Scott ensures that my fills are always ready when I come to pick them up. They are a great team with extensive knowledge and diving history. The not so good - It's not actually in Seattle--it's in Des Moines which is kind of a haul from North Seattle, where I live. The parking on the street is free, but sometimes it's full, so you might have to park a block away (which isn't horrible, but I'm trying to give you the full picture here). The so-so - It's an expensive sport. It's an expensive shop. BUT--you get high-quality gear that will last and is incredibly durable. You also get to buy local and get personalized help. The customer service is fantastic and, to me, worth it. I would rather pay a bit more to get top-notch equipment, be taught how to use it and ensure it fits me, and get the opportunity to improve my skills with a welcoming and friendly community that is open to divers of all skill-levels.

With an upcoming trip to Baja Sur, I decided this was the time and was initially looking at outfits in Mexico when I just so happened to check local prices here in the PNW. I was surprised to find that Underwater Sports offered the most affordable PADI certification I had seen, half the cost of some dive companies in Baja. When I went to check out the shop, I was immediately impressed with the staff, who were all friendly, knowledgeable, & passionate about diving. It felt right, so I booked the Open Water Diver course. This proved to be a very good decision as our instructor, Jaiden, and her assisting Dive Masters (Frank & Jason) were all equally skilled, friendly, and engaging. I thoroughly enjoyed the course. It was professional but never stiff. I was confident that Jaiden and our Dive Masters always knew what they were doing and had our safety as their top priority, but they also were very relatable and easy to talk to. The experience was an entirely positive one, from beginning to end, and while I was already certain that I would love diving, I am now equally certain that I have found a community that I will continue to share that love with. I mean he instantly calls other shops and it's hard to have everything you would want on hand, so Chris helps with the anguish of waiting with reasonable deals and consistent updates. The staff are top knotch! Mr. Holland taught me from Advanced up to Dive Master and I had so much fun the entire time. The shop does also offer lots of FREE dives to certified divers. They also offer regulator service, but it goes up to Seattle which is not a problem at all. This place is a second home.

I took the NAUI Open Water Course in November 2025 with Katie, Katherine, and John over two…read moreweekends! The timing was perfect for me, because I work pretty deliberate hours throughout the weekday, making it hard to do a full week long course. The first weekend was just the pool skills, practicing for the dives. The next weekend was two days of diving (including at Sund Rock!). Katie was awesome. We had her for the pool day and really thought she was confident, competent and kept the class engaged. I felt comfortable asking to redo a skill when I wasn't super comfortable I got it right the first few times and wanted to practice again. Katherine and John (the owners) were my instructors the second weekend. They're both super knowledgeable as well and Katherine is very deliberate about ensuring fit of gear and safety is a priority! Only note I have is that I wish I could have stuck with one instructor. We swapped from Katie one weekend, to Katherine the next weekend and John on the final day. It was easy to rebuild comfortability with Katherine and John; just a personal preference to keep consistency when learning. I did the Drysuit and Nitrox certifications in addition to my open water. YSS Dive made it easy to add on both! Only other things I would improve would be to have smaller classes -- it seemed like we were bigger than the usual class, and a larger majority of folks struggled more learning than me and my paired buddy. Kind of resulted in our second dive on the last day being less deep (we stuck to 25-35 feet) or in the area we wanted because the other girl couldn't figure out her buoyancy well with her drysuit and needed extra work/time. We obviously appreciated that safety was the priority for all divers; just would have loved to have been able to really test ourselves and our new skills! I felt comfortable and competent having learned from YSS dive; my buddy and I signed up for the advanced course!

I purchased a pair of winter booties for $90 and they were absolute junk... Booties were/are…read moredeformed and flawed in almost every way! Not wearable... So, adhering to OR return guidelines, I sent the the booties back, which they acknowledged receiving. The debit card I used to purchase these winter booties no longer exist, as I no longer use that bank. When I called to tell OR about my changing financial situation, they literally told me that they could ONLY REFUND TO THE PURCHASE CARD/BANK, which as previously stated, no longer exist... When I vehemently complained about not offering me an alternate refund option, OR basically said, "Too bad, deal with your bank". I no longer exist in the eyes of my old bank, so how the hell am I supposed deal with a bank that is NOT my bank... Outdoor Research literally stole my money!... It's NOT over!
