This was certainly off peak season and not during parents weekend, but the price was $181 before taxes on a double queen bed room. It's just a block or so off the square so you can walk to plenty of activities and shopping. Just a mile or two from SFA so easy access there too. It's no wonder this place fills up so quickly during parents weekend or homecoming and such. Older HVAC system but newer dual thermostat which adjusts for hot or cold depending on the temperature you set. Seemed to work fine, though it got a little cold in the winter evening we were there before it adjusted. Place was built in the 50s but really nice remodeling done in all the areas. Room was spacious. Bathroom a bit on the smaller side, and the shower is one of those where you have to reach under the shower head so you get a little cold shot before pulling your hand back! Also, no shower door which I am not a fan of, but seemed to be fine after I put a towel mat down. Plenty of towels, pillows and bed covers so the place presents itself as upscale. Sundays they have all day happy hours in the bar (9 flags). But warning, if it's slow they will close everything down early and head home.... Another concern might be during peak times because there was only one elevators, which is modernized, but still a Lone Ranger! Seems each floor has a drink machine right by the elevator for convenience. More than a dozen food places within one mile of the place. Parking out front and on the side of the building was pretty easy and convenient. They do have a car port at the lobby entrance to check in before you park if you prefer. My wife took advantage of the 25% coupon in the gift shop as part of the parent package and bought several fredonia and sfa swag it a great discount. Thumbs up on this place from me, wife, and teenager. Just a note, as we had our electric car this trip. Not charging station at this hotel. As for the rest of the town, there is a Tesla supercharging station, but everything else around town is either level 1 or 2 and basically located at a place of business or hotel. I arrived with my family in the evening in time to unpack and go to sleep. We woke up the next morning to find two bags of chips and a loaf of bread were dined on by the resident MICE. We reported it to the owners, who said they would take care of it. Nothing happened so we went down and bought our own glue traps the the following day, thinking it was only a mouse or two. We ended our trip early after catching 3 MICE in glue traps and seeing a few more afterward. When we called to let Marcy know we left early due to the MOUSE INFESTATION, SHE LAUGHED and said that just happens to dwellings in the woods. I know country houses occasionally have a mouse get inside. I also know only rarely do dwellings have RODENT INFESTATIONS and only NEGLECTED dwellings keep them. The owners must have made an attempt to hide the situation. There were no MOUSE DROPPINGS when we got there. Each day NEW MOUSE DROPPINGS appeared on the counters in the kitchen. Other things to consider: - There was an unsecured door from the office to our room. (We couldn't lock them out). This would have been a "show-stopper" except, I brought a brace to prevent the door from being opened. - The MAID UNLOCKED the DOOR and walked into our room WHILE WE WERE ASLEEP. No "do not disturb" plaque was provided. This happened on our first visit as well. The owner said he would take measures to ensure it wouldn't happen again. - Bathtub took over 24 hours to drain. - Recliner was broke. When I lifted the foot, it fell apart. - Wallpaper is peeling off the walls. - Owners are unfriendly and don't follow through with their promises. - Owners charged us $25 because she said, "your dog was on the carpet 'several times' ". She only came in once. How could she see the dog "several times" do they have surveillance inside the room? I am glad they didn't charge us for their resident MICE running on the carpet day and night. My recommendation is: CONSUMER BEWARE!!!

Of course I had my preconceived notions. Although the hotel wasn't luxurious, it was clean and doable. The rooms remind you of your grandmother's house. The plain traditional wooden furniture, wooden floors, a tv and not much decor on the walls. Simplicity at its finest. After a day on the water. We came in thinking we would get ready for bed, but guess who found ants crawling in their bed? Me ! We called management and she came promptly. She started to change the linen and we determined ants were crawling under the mattress too. The manager left the room and immediately came back with keys to a new room for us to move too. We didn't have any problems in the new room. Kudos to the manager for taking care of us and having a pleasant attitude. Yes, I will return again! If you're ever in the area, give this hotel a try.
