Me, my husband and a child drove many hours to enjoy outdoors by the lake near Jasper TX. We reserved this Motel 8 over the phone for 1 night only and then to decide if we need another night. At first, the location, building and very polite front desk service was very pleasant, we checked in and without checking the room, went to the lake. Came back to motel late at night, and realized that they gave us a smoking room. My husband went to the front desk and asked to change the room, because it stinks, plus we do not smoke and have a child with us too. Front desk employee was very understanding, but had to ask the manager/owner to give us a new non-smoking room. For whatever reason, the manager/owner did not allowed us to get a non-smoking room, not that there wasn't a room available, he just said that it was too late in the night for him to come and make a room switch!!! We had no choice but to stay there overnight, since my child was already asleep and it was too late in the night to drive around and find a new place to stay. Not staying there again and all my family and friends, who travel to that lake near Jasper, with avoid this motel too.

When we arrived, the manager, Michele informed me that their internet was down and they could not confirm that I had paid, and requested I pay in cash. Do you see anything wrong with this? When I refused to pay in cash she suggested I cancel our reservation and go somewhere else. Wyndham's cancellation policy??? All reservations must be cancelled 24 hours in advance or you will be charged one night stay plus tax. I showed Michele "Ms Friendly" my confirmation email and she said they could not confirm the credit card used to make the reservation, since their internet was down and requested requested I provide them with another credit card and ID so she could make a copy of them. Does this make sense to anyone? If they can't confirm the first credit card, how can they confirm the second card? My wife walked in to see what the hold up was and when she questioned Michele's logic (to me, not to Michele) Michel ordered her out of the front entrance area. Since there were no other rooms in town available and I had already paid, I gave her a second credit card and told her I was going to monitor both. Good thing I didn't give her cash. To make matters worse, the "non smoking room" smelled like stale smoke and there were cigarette burn holes in the comforter. The burn holes were not as bad as the white milky stains on the comforter and the black hairs on the sheets. I hate to think what the white stains were. i took pictures of all this, including the numerous stains all over the carpet and stains all over the lounging chair. This by far the worse room I have ever stayed in. I will not be staying at another Wyndham chain Super 8 EVER!!! Of course I had my preconceived notions. Although the hotel wasn't luxurious, it was clean and doable. The rooms remind you of your grandmother's house. The plain traditional wooden furniture, wooden floors, a tv and not much decor on the walls. Simplicity at its finest. After a day on the water. We came in thinking we would get ready for bed, but guess who found ants crawling in their bed? Me ! We called management and she came promptly. She started to change the linen and we determined ants were crawling under the mattress too. The manager left the room and immediately came back with keys to a new room for us to move too. We didn't have any problems in the new room. Kudos to the manager for taking care of us and having a pleasant attitude. Yes, I will return again! If you're ever in the area, give this hotel a try. The room appeared to be clean on first glance, brought in my things exhausted from driving, I went to plug in all my devices. There were three lamps in the room, only one had a lightbulb. Room service did bring two bulbs for the lamps. I found a previous tenant Nike flip flop between the bed and the dresser next to the bed. I kept smelling something gross and funky in the non smoking room. My nose lead me to the garbage can where I found a dirty baby diaper that wasn't removed from the last time the room might have been cleaned. The next morning 6:15 am, there was no continental breakfast whatsoever, there was a coffee pot in the lobby empty, at a place for a breakfast to be set, no attendant at the desk and the door to the front desk area was locked. No breakfast on day two either. Late that night ready for bed again, go into my room the bed was made, bath towels, washcloth that were used replaced. I had a small room refrigerator in my room a six pack of drinks were taken out of the refrigerator. Apparently someone was thirsty, in my room. They didn't change the sheets on my bed. Very dark room one light in three lamps, (the light bulbs given the day before were removed) only air conditioner in the room not sufficient for the heat in April I can't imagine what August would be in the room.
