I have to firmly disagree with the previous review. Who the hell goes cooking for a bachelorette…read moreparty anyway? You set yourself up for failure and poorly planned the night. Get over it. We are wellness center comprised of chiropractic, physical therapy, acupuncture and nutrition. I decided to host our company holiday party at the Ridgewood Culinary Studio. Their prices were fair compared to a lot of NYC studios. This is a small, privately owned studio and it comes with its share of limitations (space, decor, etc.). Once you get passed that and intend on having a good time with your group, you will have a good time!! The ladies were very interactive and knowledgeable about our Italian menu. They messed around with each other as well to keep us entertained. We took pictures, took shots, played our own music and had a great time cooking the meal. It actually was less work than I imagined, because our staff was not thrilled about cooking. But everyone had a blast. We also did a gift exchange game after dinner and were served dessert thereafter. I would recommend this studio and this experience to any group of 10-15. Great for holiday parties, kids, dinner parties.

I am only giving this place 3 stars because it was dirty. I saw one of the employees cleaning the toilet with NO gloves. That same employee did NOT wash hands and started touching regular kitchen items. I really think this place is and to be great perhaps years and years ago. The staff looks pretty skilled however ai would never recommend others to come here. It neeDs to be cleaner, revamped AND most importantly, hire. A professional cleaning company to clean the space.

For $125/person, I had expected better tasting food though. The small appetizers (spinach salad, prosciutto, Parmesan, olives) may have been put together from a grocery store. For the pasta that we rolled out, the staff only added a plain tomato sauce. The side of vegetables was overcooked and mushy. Tiramisu was all right. We can blame the taste and texture of the pasta on ourselves, because we made it, but I had expected the rest of the food prepared by professionals to be better. No drinks were included -- Healthy Italia is BYOB. There was a nice intro video from the owner telling us about her history and philosophy. She said that she doesn't measure ingredients, and only mixes by feel. How does one teach a cooking class like this? If someone is taking a cooking class, they are less experienced and need precise measurements and instructions. Our flour and water were measured for us, so I guess they do measure something. We were never told the measurements, so didn't have any recipe or any specific learnings to take home. I enjoyed the social time with my group, and especially the long table set out for our group in true Italian fashion. It made us feel like a big cohesive family. However, for $125/person, I felt like we could have had a true learning experience elsewhere or had a much better Italian dinner at a restaurant with drinks. In fact, on the subsequent evening, a few individuals from our group went to a restaurant and ordered similar items served at this cooking class, and the food was remarkably better. And yes, it was less than $125/person with drinks.

Jenna is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and has great tips and tricks for the experienced cook and patience for those of us who struggle to use a stove knob. Her recipes are prepared beforehand based on your tastes and are really healthy, delicious, and easy to prepare. I felt like I was on a cooking show. Her kitchen is professional and well-stocked with tools. She is a great conversationalist and keeps the session moving at the right pace, based on the meals you are preparing. This was worth every penny and I highly recommend Cook Learn Live, and Jenna, specifically.

The class was not only educational, it was a lot of fun, and definitely a great reprieve from my typical Sunday afternoons spent studying in front of a computer. Jenna did a great job of overseeing the prepping and cooking of the four dishes we had on the menu for the night. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to manage a kitchen full of amateur chefs (half of whom rarely cook at home)...but somehow she managed to do it with grace! Jenna was extremely patient with and open to all of our questions as well. In particular, I thought she did a great job of incorporating the 'why' behind her answers to questions like: What ingredients do you always have on hand? How do you know which spices go well together? What goes into a vegetable stock? I really appreciated how Jenna tailored the class specifically for a group of grad students, focusing on: increasing the nutritional value of our meals, saving time in the kitchen, and all the while cutting down on costs. Three things that I know I DEFINITELY need to do more of! I walked away from the class with an arsenal of new cooking tips, a full belly (plus a few containers of leftovers), and a packet of recipes from the class. Three hours very, very well spent! Thanks for all of your cooking tips, Jenna! For anyone interested in learning how to eat healthier or to be more effective in the kitchen, I would highly, highly recommend her classes!

Suzi greeted us by tightly securing our aprons around our necks, and Frank was kind enough to keep the beer and wine flowing for the first hour. We broke into teams and were ushered into the back room, where a gorgeous stainless steel kitchen was. We were talked through knife skills, cleanliness, and prep work. Knives and wine were discouraged, so a few of us took to chopping and a few others stuck to sipping. The teams were very organized - the leaders took their jobs seriously and did a great job of coaching not only first-time and novice "chefs" but also providing more advanced tips for those that had obviously held a knife in the kitchen before! Suzi was really adaptable to a small request for something competitive (our company gets a little... ferocious when pitted against one another).. we played a quick round of cooking jepoardy (not to brag, but my team won). Suzi kept things on track, Frank kept score, and we all yelled our brains out for no particular reason (because yelling means its the right answer, right??) We then began our three-course meal: prepped by us and plated gorgeously by the kind staff. We had voted on our menu and went with something asian-inspired - starting with shrimp spring rolls, five-spice duck breast, and banana-mango rolls in a coconut sauce to finish. The entire event lasted about 3 hours, and even though we ran over by about 10 minutes, Suzi was generous enough to let people filter out as they finished their wine, which we all appreciated greatly. I work in HR (and was given the responsibility to coordinate the event), and highly enjoyed working with the entire team so closely before the event, and was pleasantly surprised by a prompt email from the team the next morning with a receipt from the event, and a promise that recipes and photos were on their way via email in the next few days. I would highly recommend using Cooking by the Book for company activities, bachelorette parties, an outing in NYC with friends - whatever the occasion or however diverse your group, Cooking by the Book is a winner on every account.

Those who like cooking will be thrilled with a night at Susi's home, but others who are happier socializing and eating (like myself) will be just as satisfied. As soon as we arrived Susi handed each of us a personalized apron (probably the only thing that I'll ever see Chef Andrea on), told us to tie our hair back (I appreciate a hairless kitchen) and directed us towards delish apps and wine. But the night got even better... We were split into groups and I was placed into the capable hands of Chef Charmaine. My group was in charge of the upside down strawberry cake. Yum- I hope there'd be batter testing involved!! Charmaine gave each of us a job (mine was to crack eggs). We chatted and drank wine while we baked so it was actually fun. I may have given her a slight heart attack when I dumped the vinegar into the batter way earlier than necessary, but for the most part Charmaine made sure the others would be able to enjoy our cake. By the time I was over cracking eggs, stirring batter (and yes, even taste testing) it was time to sit down for a 5 star meal of gazpacho, flatbread, salmon, quinoa and the cake. I wasn't a huge fan of the salmon, but it was probably just me because it quickly disappeared from everyone else's plates. Everything else was absolutely incredible. I love that Susi hosts these dinner parties right out of her cozy home and if I had a kitchen that gorgeous I may even consider cooking. Maybe.
